   I don’t review often, but I saw how little this palette has been reviewed (and how shockingly low the average is) and knew I simply had to shout my feelings from the virtual rooftops.

   I was never a big fan of pre-made palettes, conceptually. I dislike having someone else select my eyeshadows and “force” me into buying at least a few shades that I either dislike or for which I have dupes. But I bought this palette, used, for a pretty low price, just because this was when the Modern Renaissance craze was in full swing, and I had major FOMO, but I am not usually into such warm shades, and, well, I wanted to try an Anastasia palette and this one seemed fairly harmless.

   Well. It turned me into a palette convert, and that’s a much longer story, but here is the deal with THIS GUY.

   First, the quality of the shadows. It’s excellent. It’s not game-changingly fantastic, but it’s damn good. Shadows are all, without exception, very pigmented, and it’s pretty easy to get them to pan-color payoff levels. They are smooth, “buttery,” blendable, and if there is some fall-out on the darker shades, it’s no worse than most other shadows I’ve tried. Quality of the shadows is a solid 4/5 (5 is RARELY granted).

   Second, the color selection, and, TBH, this is where I was won over. This, to me, is the most incredibly cohesive palette I have ever seen. Since I’ve gotten this palette, this was pretty much the only eyeshadow I’ve packed for trips. It has, literally, everything you would need. (Or, perhaps I should say, everything *I* would need – dark hair/eyes, NW20-25, with a style that hovers somewhere between polished and edgy.)

   It has warm-to-neutral crease/transition shades in matte and satin. It has a super-dark shade for lining and deepening. It has a super-shimmery shade for a popping highlight and a bone-pale matte shade for the browbone. It has playful pops of color that are neither warm nor overly cool, and can probably suit most complexions/seasons. It has neutral-ish shades that are executed too well to really be called “safe,” but are just so easy to reach for. And there are no colors that are poorly made or that are hard to work with. Yes, the dark shade looks scary because of the glitter, but the glitter doesn’t show up unless you work hard to make it so. (Bad news if you wanted the glitter . . . good news if you just need that one almost-black shadow in your palette.) This palette is just so EASY.

   I have yet to see a palette that is this well-put-together, as far as my preferences go. It’s nice and small, which I really enjoy – honestly, I have never in my life used up a palette color, and I’d rather have small amounts of eyeshadow and save on money and space. Packaging is standard for ABH palettes, but I happen to really like it – small, sleek, not too much unnecessary detail/bling (looking at you, Urban Decay Vice Palettes), and secure enough with the typical hardened cardboard, as long as you don’t plan on tossing it into water or under a train.

   The brush is a waste of time, IMO. Yes, you can use it, but there are plenty of inexpensive brushes out there that are way better than this one. However, it’s still a free implement, so hey.

   Love this palette. This is the palette that people who hate palettes should check out first.

   I used to love Urban Decay shadows and bolder eye looks, but I’ve become stuck in a more ‘neutral rules’ rut over the past several years. Nothing wrong with a neutral eye, but I’ve bored myself by wearing the same looks over and over, so purged most of my eye palettes to start building my collection up again, and this is one of my new palette purchases I felt that I needed to shake up my routine and find the fun in makeup again.

   The Self-Made palette is something that caught my eye because there are shades here that will keep me happy all-year round; there are plenty of safer more ‘everyday’ neutral shades, but there is a lovely bold purple colour pop [Deep Purple], some subtler colours suited to autumn/winter go-to shades [Metallic Plum & Witchy], and spring/summer colour go tos [Sherbet & Isla]. This was my first ABH product and the quality has impressed me so much that I plan to buy more; this has fantastic pigmentation, everything is easy to blend & build up with little to no fallout, there’s no heavy shimmer/glitter that doesn’t adhere to skin and goes everywhere, plus everything is crease & fade resistant.

   The only drawback for this palette is that out of the shades I mostly use as crease and transitioning only one of each.isn’t shimmery, so I wouldn’t class Self-Made as a one-stop ‘complete’ look in one palette, as I have to use another palette alongside this one to incorporate one or two matte shadows to ‘finish off’ my daily looks; the satin/lighter shimmer shades can be used for this, but I have deep-set eyes so prefer to not use non-matte shades in my large crease area or for transitioning between my cease and brow.

   Pink Champagne – Metallic rose gold.
   Metallic Plum – Satin orchid.
   Self Made – Shimmering pewter grey satin.
   Witchy – Mystical satin midnight blue.
   Blush – Soft barely there peach.
   Blossom – Muted petal pink with an ultra-matte finish.
   Buttery – Sheer buildable matte beige.
   Deep Purple – Enigmatic satin amethyst.
   Treasure – Silky buttercup yellow with a satin finish.
   Hot & Cold – Cosy cashmere taupe.
   Sherbert – Ultra matte apricot.
   Isla – Mesmerising sea foam green.
   Spirit Rock – Sultry galaxy black sparkle.
   Hot Chocolate – Rich cocoa brown with a matte finish.

   The quality of the eyeshadows is nice, so that is not the issue that I have with this palette. What bothers me is the fact that there is a serious lacking in matte shades which makes this palette almost impossible to use by itself. When I buy premade palettes, I like them to be a complete though, and I don’t want to have to get other products out to make it work. This would not be a good choice to travel with because of that fact. But if you don’t mind the fact that there are no transition matte shades, and really only one crease shade, then you may enjoy this palette.

   I also find that there are really only two standout shades and all the rest are very easily dupable in my own collection.

   I wanted to love this palette… But I just don’t… I do regret purchasing it, and I definitely would not repurchase it.
