   This palette is impressive as it has an amazing variety in it; a mix of cool, warm and neutral shades and a nice selection of four finishes make it a very inclusive palette. It can be used for a variety of complete eye looks, covering base, lid, crease, transition and highlight for every occasion, season & holiday, with a variety of shades to suit every skintone – such a major plus, with including everyone with this. I have liked the vast majority of looks I’ve done with it to date. The formulas are feel creamy, the blendability of all four finishes is excellent, and there isn’t much fallout. I’ve found that the pigmentation is really nice & rich, and there is no colour fading or creasing. I have to say that this palette has quickly made it into my top three picks for top-notch quality and versatility – there’ll be sades for whatever mood I’m in on that day/whatever I’m wearing.

   However I do have to note that there are a fair few shades that end up looking pretty much the same after they’ve been applied and blended, so this is not really a 42 pan palette for the everyday user who is applying the shadows on their skin only [my own fault for buying a professional-grade product] – this palette has been made for people who work in the industry and the gradients of the shades are there to be spread across all skintones. To me as a non-professional, the wide range of shade gradients and finishes is somewhat overwhelming, which is another downside – I’ll open it up to do a look and end up staring at everything, trying to decide what to do.

   I’ve clicked yes for repurchase; if you are a professional, then rush to the Violet Voss site right now and buy it – it has everything for every client you’ll have. If you want to use this palette for your own personal use then I do still think that it’s a great buy and recommend it, but I do strongly suggest waiting until you find a discount code, coupon or sale; just using the shades on one skintone means that some will look too similar to each other, so I’d hesitate to pay the expensive full price as it won’t seem like a 42-shade palette to non-professionals.

   This is such a frustrating product… let me try to explain why. A few years ago I made a conscious decision not to buy high end cosmetics, not due to economic reasons but I felt that drugstore products (like eyeshadows) really are quite good these days and I really don’t see much point spending extra (which I can then on skin care etc.)
   Anyway – this was gifted to me… the price point is quite high and I doubt I would buy it myself (especially that i have many many eyeshadow palettes…) but since I have it, I use it.
   First impressions were quite good, I used the light, sheen colours for a daily make up, went on well, buttery, pigmented, blended well, on primer lasted all day.
   The other night I went for the darker look – going out look, used some browns and berry shaded, again – pigmentation is good, blended well just that my eyes started feeling funny… slight irritation, they started watering a bit but the feeling subsided and I was fine after a while, no long term negative effects fortunately. Yes – it is an original product from the respectable source.
   I used it again for going out, darker look yesterday and that’s what really really frustrated me – fall out.
   Don’t get me wrong, if i use a cheap eyeshadow and it happens, i wipe it off and I don’t dwell on it. But when this costs £67 I am expecting to see a better performance than my Makeup Revolution palletes.
   I will probably test it a bit more, still need to try only matte shades but i am tempted to sell tbh.

   Packaging – well… it is what it is…
   I am unlikely to be tempted by any other products by violet voss.

   WOW! Just WOW! First let me state that I did not buy into the hype with her Holy Grail Palette, just didn’t get it. The colors were way too warm, the texture chalky and the packaging was very cheap, you can read my review if you want more 411.

   So what may me decide to give her brand another go? I saw a picture of this palette in an on-line article about that Mario guy who has been made famous for doing the make-up of an over publicized reality star. I like his collaboration with ABH and the article did not give credit for this palette so I thought it was something he is currently working on, or something of that nature. I screen shot the picture and zoomed in enough so that I could get the names of some of the colors in the palette, as well as a closer look at the shadows themselves. I jotted down the names and just started searching the net. I found some reviews and BAM, it turns out to be a VV palette. I went to the website and yep, there it was.

   Trust me, I sat on the fence about whether or not to purchase since this one runs $75 but you get 42 pans of shadow, this thing is HUGE! The other palettes like the HG run $45 for 20, the price point per pan was too good to pass up so I pulled the trigger. Since this is a great mix of cool and warm, I figured if even 10 of them are wearable, it’s worth the money…if I don’t like it i will toss it in my “give to friends box” with all my other rejects. My friends love to raid that box on a regular basis!

   So yes I bought it and I am so happy that I did, this palette sits right up there with my MAC “In the Flesh” palette and a couple of other must have favorites. I find myself grabbing for this one or MAC daily, I absolutely LOVE it. I have swatched all of the colors and they all have superb color pay off, some are a little more dry than others, but none are any where near as dry and chalky as the HG palette! They are much more workable in texture. I have everything I need in this one palette to do a complete eye, unlike the HG where all of those were just too warm (read as SCREAMED ORANGE!), and nothing in the mix to tone the warmth down, so hence I would have to pull in other shadows or from other brands to blend and blend.

   Okay, so yes I like the shadows, the texture on even the driest is so much better than the HG palette, so that leaves the packaging. It is still a cardboard package but much sturdier than her others, probably because this thing is so massive. The printing of her logo, design and the name of the palette is much better and very professional compared to the cheapness of the HG palette. So I am thinking that maybe she has moved her manufacturing to a different company, hence the all around improvement in quality. I was going to order a back-up and they have been sold out, was just in SoCal for work last week and wished that I would have had the time to go by a retailer and see if they had it in stock. I may call around and see f they have in stock, can I purchase over the phone and have one of my co-workers pickup and ship for me? They have 3 retailers within 1-2 miles from our Orange office so fingers crossed I can get a back-up!

   So, am I totally sold on VV Cosmetics? Let’s just say that if they stay on track and keep producing along these lines, that is a definite YES. Even NARS has produced a dud, so I won’t hold the HG palette as the standard by which all of their products are made. Who knows, I may have just gotten an old one but I don’t think I want to waste another $45 to buy another one to find out!
