After owning, and loving, the Revealed and Revealed 2 palettes from Coastal Scents you can bet your life when Revealed 3 was quietly released on their website Friday, March 6th I ordered it. Unlike the releases of the previous two, CS did not offer any sort of a release sales blitz. It was the usual price of $19.95. You get 20 shades in a range of cool and warm tones and a variety of finishes. Unlike its predecessors, this one has only 3 matte shades and far more glitter shades. Revealed was more of a dupe for Urban Decay’s first 2 Naked Palettes. Revealed 2 was a dupe for Naked3, and Revealed 3 is a stand-alone palette featuring more pinks and purples than the first 2.
There are 2 rows of 10 shades each. Since CS doesn’t assign names to the colors in their palettes I will refer to the top row shades, going left to right, as shades 1-10 and the bottom row, left to right, as shades 11-20. Please refer to my photos above to see swatches (applied using an EcoTools Eye Shading brush on a bare arm without flash photography) and 2 photos of my damaged palette 🙁
First of all, let’s talk packaging. It’s a sturdy, thin cardboard package with a magnetic lid closure and no mirror. My shadow tray was glued in crooked and one end of the lid doesn’t match up, ergo, it doesn’t close properly and it makes it look cheaply made. Even drugstore brands put more care into their palette packaging.
Now to the shades.
1. A matte cream shade. A little on the chalky side, but it is nicely visible on the skin as a browbone or inner eye highlighter.
2. A matte peach shade. Smooth to the touch, but applies very dusty and patchy. It straddles that line of being too odd of a color to be a highlighter, but still too light to be a visible transition shade.
3. The final matte in the palette and it is a neutral matte brown. Good for a transition shade, as it looks way darker in the pan than it actually goes on as.
4. Is a shimmery champagne shade. Pretty as an all-over lid color.
5. A shimmery, okay, let’s go over this for a second, because this one tripped me out. In the pan it looks like a dusty plummy brown shade, but applied it’s a shimmery copper.
6. very shimmery gold.
7. A satin finish rusty red. Very pretty. One of my favorites in this palette.
8. The first of, oh I don’t know, five or so shades in this palette featuring a pink micro glitter, although this is one of my other favorites in this palette. It is a satin Pepto-Bismol pink with pink micro-glitter throughout.
9. One of the worst shades in the palette. The texture is dry and crumbly. It is a burgundy with, surprise surprise, pink micro-glitter. Goes on very patchy and is barely pigmented.
10. A satin dusty cool plum shade with flecks of what looks like silver micro-glitter.
11. This is a nice shade. It’s buttery soft and nicely pigmented. It’s a magenta with, oh wait, is that pink micro-glitter again?
12. Is a sadly pigmented shimmery lilac shade.
13. Oh, wow, more pink micro-glitter. This one is a light pinky lavender shade with flecks of what appear to be pink, red, and silver glitter.
14. A very shimmery dusty mauve shade. It’s barely there on the lid, but offers a very pretty finish.
15. A satin taupe shade.
16. A deep satiny finish purply cool brown. One of the more highly pigmented shades.
17. Another champagne shade.
18. This one looks matte in the pan, but it’s actually a very pretty satin finish light cocoa shade.
19. A deep satiny finish burgundy plum shade.
20. Black with chunky silver/holofoil sparkle.
While this palette isn’t a total bust, it did not live up to the expectations they have created for me. The previous 2 Revealed palettes were so pigmented, so beautiful, with so many options to create looks from I find myself reaching for them often. This one, on the other hand, feels a bit disjointed. You have to be a little more creative to come up with looks using this palette, especially since there is only one really good transition shade in the palette, unless you prefer shimmery shades for transition shades. This palette had potential, but fell way short in terms of what I have come to expect from Coastal Scents in shadow quality and pigmentation.
At the price point I don’t necessarily regret buying this palette, but I wouldn’t rush out to replace it either.
