The Pastel Goth grabbed a lot of attention for a good reason. It has beautiful packaging, the eyeshadow selection was something that was not already being made by every other brand, and it was limited edition. Of all of my palettes, the packaging on this one is probably my favorite. I also do not have many shadows like this in my collection. However, the shadow quality varies. The shades Star, Doom, and Skull are easy to pick up and apply and are highly pigmented. The shade Meow was difficult to pick up and apply and the shade Dope was incredibly difficult to blend. This shade would take off some of the more pigmented shadows, such as Doom, while trying to blend them together. All of the shades have quite a bit of kick up when you try to pick up the shadow, but the only one that gave me fallout on my face was Skull. I found the best way to apply was to pat the shadows on instead of doing sweeping motions. Blending any of the shadows in this palette often took some patting, which in turn required patting more product on top. If you can get past the application, the shadows last a long time with primer. With primer, they survived me sleeping in them without any change. The colors fade significantly over the day if you do not wear primer. The eyeshadows in this palette are unique in color and difficult to dupe, but as much as I love the colors and looks I get from this palette, the difficulty with applying and blending the shades would make me choose not to repurchase if this palette was still available.

The reason I purchased this palette was for the peach, purple and blue colors. This is my first experience with Kat Von D eyeshadow and I am very pleased. Pigmentation is great. No fall out. Over eyelid primer, last all light. Blends easily. And the packaging itself is so pretty, if goth can be pretty. This is my only colorful palette, I typical just wear nudes (naked BASICS 2 from UD, and romantic eye pallate from too face)
So far my fave colors are clementine, meow, doom and dope. Personally love to add a good black cat eyeliner with this palette.

Pastel Goth was released into controversy in the makeup world, because “this eyeshadow palette is called pastel, but the shades aren’t pastel!!” Pastel is an art medium, and lots of low saturated shades can be classed as being pastel, not just ones that are very low in saturation. Also note Goth being present in the title – so people should have expected a twist on what are traditionally thought off as being pastel shades…
Anyway; Kat Von D’s last major palette release was the huge MetalMatte palette, and that palette has pastel shades of peachy orange, yellow and mauvey pink in it, so I was concerned that they’d just be repeating the shades here. But no, they are all different; the three shades in MetalMatte are all milkier shades that are commonly called pastel today, whilst the Pastel Goth shades are a bit more punchy like actual pastel sticks. The yellow, orange and lilac shades are my favourites as they make my dark blue eyes pop. The pinky mauve is great with my skintone, and the washed out tones make the blue, green, and grey very easy to wear without being too full-on.
This palette is a bit smaller compared to my other Kat Von D ones, so it’s worth pointing out that it is a bit cheaper to buy. Kat Von D palettes are a must-buy for me, and this didn’t let me down; the pigmentation in all of the shades is awesome, and the shadow formula is very soft and buttery. When I dip my brush into the shadows they do have some kickup to them, but they aren’t patchy and apply with only a little [if any] fallout and blends really well, and everything is crease & fade resistant. All eight shades are matte, so there is no heavy shimmer/glitter that doesn’t adhere to skin and goes everywhere.
.
The only niggle I have with this palette is with the white shadow; on the one hand I know that is is needed as a base to make the other seven shades pop if you want a more vibrant look, but the last two Kat Von D palettes also contain matte white shadows – the palettes I’m referring to were released fairly close together, and they must have likely been in various development stages together, so how many white shadows did they really think were needed? Like I said, a white shadow is very handy for light shadow shades, so I didn’t remove a lippie this time, but I really hope that upcoming palettes [Saint & Sinner, and Shade & Light Glimmer are next] don’t have this kind of basic-type shade repeat.

YAAAS! So much yes! I love everything about this palette and feel like it may have been made just for me! It’s cheap for KVD too. They are all pigmented, bendable, and have very little fallout if any. These colors are definitely unique and I really don’t know of any others like them, except for the white one, obviously! I feel like these go best with a nice jet black wing and lashes to really give that pastel goth vibe. Of course they are great for any occasion that calls for pastels though. The packaging is sturdy, slim and clearly gorgeous! Idk what else to say.. It’s art, it’s colorful, it’s amazing and is probably my second favorite palette ever, 2nd only to the Mi Vida Loca palette. Go get it!
