This Bobbi Brown classic eye shadow palette from 2003 has been reissued on limited edition for the BB Spring/Summer Malibu Nudes collection, launched this month.
I’ve wanted a BB matte nude eyeshadow palette for a very long time so when I saw this online I immediately ordered it. I then read the reviews here and wondered if I should have tried the shades first, but I have faith in Bobbi…if she says this is a palette for all complexions, then it must be so…
…very pleased to report that Bobbi is right! My skin is the deeper end of medium (BB Warm Natural, MAC C40) and these nudes work very well for me. If you too aren’t much of an eyeshadow person but want some quiet shades for a polished, finished look then this is the palette for you.
There are 4 medium nude shades and one brown-black liner shade (Espresso). All are completely matte. Of the 4 base shades, I would say that Nude (peachy beige) and Malted (warm beige) are the warmer tones. On me they are a shade or two up from my skin tone and look very natural. Cement and Wheat are slightly cooler shades on me; their grey-beige tones add a little more contrast to my skin and are also 1 or 2 shades up from my skin tone. I get a slightly different but equally flattering look from both pairs. I don’t find that any of them disappear against my skin. There’s enough colour and depth there for me to subtly define without looking at all obvious.
The base shades are a good backdrop to the Espresso liner. I usually line with BB’s Mahogany but the deeper, cooler Espresso perfectly complements the other 4 shades in the palette.
The mix of cool and warm tones makes this a very versatile palette – all the nudes I’ll need for use on their own, layered or mixed with each other, or as a neutral base for other eyeshadow shades.
The BB website suggests using a base powder eyeshadow shade such as Ivory, Bone, Banana or Toast before applying these shades. I take my powder foundation over the eye area and find that this works perfectly well as a base. I think nudes in particular do need a base of some kind to hold the colour otherwise they can disappear on the skin, literally or shade-wise.
As with all BB powder shadows, these are beautifully creamy, pigmented and blendable.
This palette seems to be very good value for five BB shadows. My maths isn’t great but the 7g total weight works out, I think, that each shadow is over just half of the size of a single purchase. The palette comes with a quality double ended brush, comprising a broad flat liner brush and a wedged shadow brush. There’s also a decent sized mirror.
The palette contains a plastic insert to protect the mirror which would be great, but mine appears to be poorly cut and ill-fitting, stopping the palette from closing properly. It takes me a few attempts to close and even then it doesn’t do it with a reassuring “click”. I’m keeping it in the cardboard sleeve for safety. This is really disappointing and I’d hoped that BB would have refined their compact quality by now (I used to use their beautiful bronzer years ago but gave up when two successive compacts broke soon after purchase).
If it wasn’t for the packaging (I’ve given 3 stars) this would be an absolutely perfect palette. It has been well worth the wait. I love it!

This is one of my first Bobbi Brown palettes and 10 years later, this is still my faithful go-to palette. The colours of this palette is beautiful, versatile and an absolute staple for your nude collection. They are well-pigmented and blend well with each other (and with other colours too). I can’t fault this palette, shame that Bobbi can’t deliver more similar products of this quality!

After struggling a little with my Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette, I retrieved this oldie from my eyeshadow stash. As a fifty something Naked 2 was a little garish.
But using these matte nudes to tone things down results in a beautiful look. Yesterday I used Cement in my crease with silver and grey shades from UD on the lid and outer eye Today I used Wheat to contour with Brown shades from UD and the look is even prettier.
I used to really like Nude on Nude when I had a very conservative, suit every day, job. It was great for that life but seemed a little dull for the real world. Delighted to have this back in rotation because it really softens sparkly nudes and puts the focus on my blue green eyes instead of my shadow.

My first of many BB products, my love is as true today as it was on that fateful day “just browsing thanks” where, cue thunderclap: I saw, I bought, I was sold.
Her ads are breathtakingly beautiful, and breathtakingly easy to emulate. The key to her looks is its simplicity, how can timeless colours and formula ever date?
The Nude on Nudes palette suits everybody, and offends nobody. The green-eyed, fawn-eyed, bleary-eyed, hooded-lids, Asian eyes, the lucky young, the unfortunately not so young, fair and dark skins, you get the idea….
Quality of the 5 colours here is key, which are densely pigmented and buildable. Mere child’s play: one sweep of the brush into your chosen colour is chic subtlety, two or more sweeps allows you to experiment with an arabesque smokey-look. There are 5 natural to bold, complimentary nudes, including the dark Mahogany (for wet or dry use as a liner). What could possibly go wrong unless, of course, you let your five year-old loose with your face? Easy peasy.
Okay, it’s mid-priced but affordable when you consider the value of all the items included. A sleek compact a la Chanel (admittedly, not quite a throw-in-the-bag size) that’s fit to showcase in public, 5 timeless colour options (pink, mushroom, taupe,browns) for limitless mix ‘n’ match variations, and a full-sized brush to apply them with – and not one of those so-so quality brushes chucked in as an afterthought.
The uses are limitless: it’s for those lazy days, or every (other) day, where you simply can’t be too bothered; those frantic mornings where you’ve 5 minutes and it’s a debate between ‘doing the eye’ or ‘doing the liner’; those nervous first dates (you don’t want to seem like you’re masking insecurities with the warpaint); those dinners where alluring sophistication is the dress-code; those foxy ‘red lip-looks’ looks worn best with a nude, fresh face; and more. Best of all, at this time of year, it’d be a chic accent for warmed, apricot summery skin, and after-work cocktails.
Every women comes of age and deserves dependable and quality basics in her bag, and this is the thing. Nothing garish, too trendy, vile or cheap. Gratis to BB, I’ve liberated myself from weekly little makeup treats that’s nothing but false economy.
People complain it’s ‘boring’, staid and ‘do nothing for me’. But how can natural colours and natural beauty be boring? How could accentuating your natural colouring, that alas, fades with the years be a thumping bore and date?
I’d dare say what’s cringe-worthy is vainly trying to recapture some concept of ‘youth as beauty’, either by keenly following catwalk trends or adamantly refusing to let go of bygone teenage favourites, when time can’t be contained and women need to grow up, and grow into her beauty….
Boring for the trendy colour chameleon, but essential for the secure, confident lady. Need I utter the name Barbara Cartland? My case rests.
Not many things in life are faultless, but this is one of them.

So I got this from my aunt.
Although I do not LOVE the colors here because obviously they are very neutral colors, this palette is PERFECT for work. Or I use the med. brown shades for above the area where I put down shadow for smokey eye. I like to use the darkest med. brown color in this pallette for work, then I put Mac Soba in the crease. As for the darkest brown color it is very smooth and pigmented but I honestly just don’t know what to do with it. I am asian and unless I use fluidline or Loreal Hip Pigments (which I hate btw. read my review) anything else used as eyeliner will smudge on me. And definitely the dark brown color is too dark to be used as shadow. Any suggestions.
Oh I almost forgot, I like to use the lightest color as highlighter on my face. It is too light to be used as highlighter above my eye becuz I am very pale but it is perfect for my face.

Where has this kit been all my life? Since purchasing this kit, I find myself reaching for it each morning. I can do a great, basic, nude eye for work, and everything I need is in one handy container. The double-ended brush is worthless, but the shadows are lovely. The colors are: bone, cement, malted, wheat, and espresso. If I decide to do a smokey eye or want a darker crease color, I simply pick up a bit of the espresso on my brush. This is a great shadow find if you like matte, nude colors! Will definitely repurchase!

Sigh…. I love this palette. Smoky eyes, contoured neutral eyes, always polished and pretty without fumbling for 5 e/s compacts. And it’s so slim! This is great if you love matte shadows – it looks dull but gives you sophisticated, versatile looks. Olive skin, dark brown eyes for reference. Love it!!! (and the MUAer who swapped it to me.)

After reading the reviews here I was a bit hesitant to purchase this. So I tried a tiny trio compact off ebay that had three of the five colors first. Loved them! So, I bought the palette.
I love the colors in this palette. It shows very nicely on me (skin tone is light medium with neutral undertones, warm colors suit me better than cool). They blend very nicely and although matte, they are not so matte as to make your eyelids look dry and dead. Even with 40-something eyelids, my lid texture looks smooth and flawless with these shadows on.
The espresso color is so rich and the texture is so awesome, it makes an incredible liner as well as shadow. Obviously these shadows do not make you look like your are wearing eye art, they make you look like you but better.
The shadow brush is pathetic–although the liner end isn’t too terrible. I would count on using your own shadow brushes if you purchase this.
If you love neutrals, this is a great palette to add to your collection.

I hate to be one of the naysayers, but I bought this on MUA recommendations and am pretty disappointed. Bought it while on a business trip and thought maybe the horrible bathroom lighting was the culprit and it would be much prettier when I got home and in my normal surroundings.
I wanted something pretty and neutral that would be easy to apply and look great. The palette is ok, but just ok. I am as pleased with the NYX palettes I had bought a few weeks ago.
Definitely doens’t live up to the MUA rating.
Sorry Bobbi. Try harder next time.
