Oh God, this palette is phenomenal! Everything in here is so special that puts my eyeshadow collection to shame. Tom Ford who..?
The packaging looks like a jewelry case and the artwork is really beautiful. Rose Gold is probably the prettiest eyeshadow I’ve ever seen and VR Fire Opal with its green shift is beyond gorgeous. Blitz Flame is a bit too wild for my liking but hey, I never knew a metallic red smokey eye would look so good – for Halloween at least. Astral Luna Gold is a bit chunky and yellow but still very glamorous.
The mattes are the best I’ve ever tried and I’ve tried a lot! The colors are rich and beautiful while blending is a piece of cake although they look quite dark for someone as fair as myself. No worries, they can be sheered out to rhe thinnest veil without patches.
Bronze Blaze and Guilty Pleasure feel a bit gritty to the touch and require some layering but they look like a gleaming dream in the end. Skinshow isn’t fantastic for me since pale yellow golds don’t do much for me but it’s not unusable either.
On to the cons now: THE FALLOUT is a thing with the glittery shades. Also I’d like Bronze and Guilty Pleasure to be creamier. Lastly, the price. It’s just too much for a piece of makeup… I’m so intrigued to try more Mothership palettes but the possibility of this slippery slope horrifies me. Lastly, albeit stunning and Oh So Special I wear it rather seldom. It’s like a gorgeous sequin gown that makes you look like a goddess. Just not possible to wear everyday without looking too much and out of place.
Overall I’m too impressed to say no to repurchasing but I know I’ll nevet use it up. Should you get it? All I can say is that you have to like sparkly things and above all proceed with caution.

This a gorgeous palette. But. It is fussy to use. The glitter fallout is real and not easy to get off. Even with a glitter primer and MAC Fix Plus on the brush, the glitter still falls all over my under eye area and I still don’t get as opaque an application as I do with my finger, although using my finger causes even MORE fallout. I cannot use this when I am in a time rush (most of the time) because of the extra steps involved in using the “special” shades. The mattes and “regular” shades are easier to use (except Disobedient), but I really need to supplement with a lighter transition shade since I am fair (no biggie, but it makes me more likely to turn to other palettes and just skip this one unless I am planning to use one of the duochromes).
The shade called VR Fire Opal is probably the most unusual one. It is so beautifully shiny and offers that sort of blue-green shift that just makes me giggle! But it has the same fallout issues I mentioned, so I don’t wear it often. Rose Gold 005 is my other favorite from this palette but IMO is not a duochrome. The one called Astral Luna Gold appears to be an enticing white-to-gold shifter in the pan but looks straight up yellow gold on my eyelids, so I don’t love it. Actually the white shift makes it appear as though I don’t have any eyeshadow on certain areas! I’m thinking maybe the white shift just doesn’t show up much on me or something – not sure – but it appears deep yellow gold when I look at myself straight on in the mirror.
The mattes all perform very well, but I have similar colors in other palettes and I do need to mix in a lighter transition shade, so I wouldn’t go to this palette if I were going to do a matte-only look. And I wouldn’t go to this palette for the glitters/duochromes unless I had at least 20 extra minutes to get ready. It probably doesn’t actually take that much extra time to use them, but I feel like I need the cushion. Disobedient is difficult to make show up IMO. Skinshow Divine Glow is very easy to use, as is Blitz Flame, but the latter is a vibrant red and I’m not likely to use that a lot.
The packaging is sturdy and pretty and screams luxe, but I wouldn’t mind if it were a little less bulky.
I said I wouldn’t buy again, and I stand by that. I will keep it and use it occasionally. Maybe eventually I will hit on a way to use the glitters with less fallout! One can always dream! But it is very expensive and for that price it should not only be stunningly gorgeous but also easy to use as it is being sold to everyday consumers, not just makeup artists to use for photo shoots. I ask a lot, but they ask for a high price, so there! The quality is fine, but the fallout and requirement to use additional products to finesse some of the shades plus the high price made me dock the rating. I’d give it a 3 if it were less expensive.

This was my first ever Pat McGrath purchase and let me say, this is my favourite eye shadow formula of all time. I used to be all about the mattes for my hooded eyes, but because of this formula, i’ve suddenly been converted to the complete opposite end of that spectrum. Don’t get me wrong, her mattes are still excellent… great pigmentation but still blendable, but I wouldn’t say they’re as heads and tails better than other formulas on the market like her shimmer/glitters are. I could go either way between Natasha Denona’s creamy mattes and pat’s, but her other formulas, amazing and it’s no contest with ND in my opinion.
Of her full sized palettes, this colour story speaks to me the most. I did end up purchasing additional palettes after this one, including sublime and 2 mthrshp palettes, but this is still my favourite. I can’t even describe how great the formula is, i dont experience a lot of fall out at all, though i usually use my fingers for the non-matte shades, but you still get this extra dimensional, multi-faceted goodness without the mess. I don’t even know how to describe you, you just need to see it yourself.
Would I recommend? Abso-freaking-lutely… if you can afford it. I had a $100CAD GC to Sephora before I could bring myself to actually dish out $170CAD on an eyeshadow palette… and I haven’t purchased any Pat McGrath product without a discount at sephora to date, but let me tell you, I don’t need to try any other shimmer/glitter formula ever for rest of my life and I would be content.

First, if there was a way to give this palette twice the rating for its packaging – of course we all would. Right down to the beveled mirror on the inside, this shadow is housed in the most luxurious casing imaginable. Absolutely. Gorgeous. Now, on to the shadows… which are unique and beautiful – certainly nothing like what one finds anywhere else (including Denona, Huda or ABA) on the make up market. That said, this palette may not be for everyone. A mixture of some matte shadows and lots of shimmer/glittery duo tone shades – this eyeshadow masterpiece requires expertise and an occasion. If you don’t like glitter, some of the shades won’t be to your liking. The pigmentation is crazy and so if you want a fast effortless look with these, and you don’t have an experienced hand you could have problems. I am “of an age” and some of the glitter/shimmer doesn’t work on me like it would on a younger gal. But … these colors are literally iridescent and one of a kind … if you are an eyeshadow junkie like I am you will be compelled to own this. There is no question that I want it in my collection – the question is: how many of her palettes can I afford?

This must be the brand’s best palette yet. I have seen/tried nearly every single palette that Pat has (including mini palettes), but Bronze Seduction is just absolutely gorgeous. I am not sure why I did not invest in it sooner – it is worth every penny. There is a nice mix of mattes, satin/metallics and pressed glittery pigments here. Two are duochromes, which you won’t be able to dupe. Then you have a day-time appropriate beige with shimmer, which is more on a subtle side and of course the most beautiful shade in the palette (to me that is) Rose Gold 005. It has so much sparkle, I am absolutely intrigued by how Pat managed to press this glitter into the palette. It is absolutely foiled and delicious. Then you also have your deep warm tones and shade called Xtreme Aubergine, which is a wonderful alternative to black. And of course the most stunning of them all – VR Fire Opal. Fire indeed! This shade shifts from green to gold to blue to purple to pink – ah! Witchcraft at its finest.
I am hoping that Pat brings it back asap, because the hype is real and this is literally the best holiday (gift) investment in my book. Now, of course most of the glittery shades require a glue or tacky base for the pigment to stick to. There might be a minor glitter fallout during application (never during the day), so probably it is best to do your eye makeup first if you want to use one of them. Mattes do not have kick-up/fallout. I do recommend applying shimmers/glitters with your fingers. You will not even need to wet any of these shadows, they’re so rich in colour!

What can I say? I am down with calling Pat McGrath “mother”. I bought the first three Mothership palettes, skipped Decadence, and bought two of the small 6-pan palettes. Thus, I have drank the Kool-aid. This is one of my favorite Mothership palettes. I especially like this one and the blue one (Subliminal). If you don’t enjoy applying eyeshadow with your finger or if you aren’t a fan of glittery textures, you might not enjoy this palette as much as me. If the price horrifies you, you should probably skip it as well. At the end of the day, it’s just an eyeshadow palette. A darn fine eyeshadow palette, but an eyeshadow palette.
There are a lot of different textures in this palette. I really enjoy the textures and the way that this palette can be used to create quite a few different looks (even a neutral look can be done, but that’s not where this palette excels). Colors like Blitz Flame (metallic red) and Rose Gold 005 (shimmery, glittery rose gold) stand out as faves for me. I love any of the PML shadows that start with “VR”, and VR Fire Opal is gorgeous. I use Entrapment as a transition shade; it’s solid, but not changing my world. I was happy to see Xtreme Aubergine as the darkest shadow, instead of black again (though the matte black in the other Mothership palettes is bomb). Astral Luna Gold has very little pigment in the base and is basically little gold glitters (more pronounced as actually glitter than the special shades in the other Mothership palettes if you ask me). I wore a look from this palette that featured Rose Gold 005 on the lid, Blitz Flame on my lower lash line, and Xtreme Aubergine in the crease with Entrapment as transition and Skinshow Divine Glow lightly on the brow bone; I ran into a friend I hadn’t seen for awhile, and she exclaimed over and over at how good my eyeshadow looked. It really is something special.
The packaging is beautiful and heavy with a beveled mirror. Pat actually put the name of the palette on this one! (on the bottom, but I’ll take it) The names of the shadows are on an insert. I cut the insert down so that I can place it inside the palettes to keep it.

This was my first ever Pat McGrath product so other than what I’ve read in reviews I wasn’t sure what the eyeshadows were really like and when I first swatched them on my arm I have to say I was disappointed because they seemed quite chalky and patchy. That was until I used them on my eyes, I have never used such beautiful eyeshadows that blend so effortlessly. Considering how they swatched I didn’t think for one minute they would be any better on the eyes, how wrong was I?! The dark shadows are so easy at blending out and creating a smokey eye with this palette is literally like child’s play. The duochrome shadows are stunning. They do come off very glittery but considering how well this palette performs that’s a minor detail. Pat McGrath has created a beauty in this palette and I can only imagine how good her other ones are too. How it’s taken me this long to jump on the PM train I don’t know but I’m hooked. The packaging feels so expensive and luxurious that you can tell it’s high end. The colour theme in this palette is spot on and it really is exciting to experiment with this palette. I just can’t wait for her next collection to arrive. If anyone is still debating whether it’s worth spending that much on a PM palette, trust me it’s worth every penny and more and you can see that within the quality of these shadows. She is probably the only one truly killing it in the makeup game right now. I 1000% recommend this palette.

I swore I would never spend more than $100 on an eyeshadow palette, yet here I am loving the heck out of Mothership V. These are my kind of colors, so as soon as I saw it I began lemming real bad. I took the risk and ordered it the day it launched from Pat’s website, and when it arrived I was blown away with the quality and the attention to detail that the brand puts into its products. I previously got one of the Metalmorphosis sets, and while I like it I wasn’t floored with the concept overall. This more traditional palette really steals the show, and everything about it makes it worth the expense. The packaging is heavy and nice and definitely feels like something you’d spend $125 USD on. The colors inside are drop-dead gorgeous, and the texture is beyond amazing. I have used every shadow in the palette multiple times, including the matte aubergine shade that I thought I would never touch. It is so easy to create beautiful eye looks with this palette because the mattes are the creamiest and easiest to blend I have ever used, and the shimmer and duochrome shades compliment one another nicely. My favorites in the palette are Entrapment (matte rose), Blaze Bronze (bronzey-gold), Rose Gold 005 (the star of the palette and honestly the prettiest eyeshadow I have ever used), VR Fire Opal (green-gold glimmer), Guilty Pleasure (taupe), and Astral Luna Gold (opalescent pale gold). The texture on Guilty Pleasure is a bit different than the others as it feels a bit stiff, but it still picks up and blends out nicely. Blitz Flame is a super creamy, gorgeous metallic rust shade, and I like it a lot too. I doubt I will be buying more of Pat’s very luxurious palettes any time soon, but I am so happy to have this one in my collection due to the quality, uniqueness, and the way that the colors work for my skin tone.
