got my hands on this for the CT summer sale 30% off. SO happy! the powders in this palette are so buttery its phenomenal.
eyeshadows – a shimmery neutral leaning peach champagne, matte neutral light brown, matte black. The champagne is soft but gives an eye opening effect while looking satiny and not stark or too over the top. The matte brown is perfect to add depth and shadow while not being warm or cool. these are really easily blendable and one of the best black shadows ive ever tried. it makes it so easy to do a smokey eye its insane. I have never been good at the smokey eye until i got to use this palette. it is buttery and smooth and makes it so easy to blend without patchiness or harshness. you can literally go from day to night with just these 3 shadows, its perfect for on the go or traveling.
bronzer – this is a light bronzer leaning cool but not grey. It melts into the skin and looks like a natural tan. i have nc20 fair neutral olive skintone and my skin pulls out the warmth in everything. I can def get use out of this bronzer. i can even use this as eyeshadow for a natural crease color. This is the exact same shade as Tom Ford Terra 02 Bronzer. Terra itself is 70 dollars so i am a bit regretful of purchasing it because these 2 swatched look exactly the same and i am much happier with the CT bronzer in this palette for the price and size.
blushes – this suppose to be the same as First Love blush of her Chic to Cheek formula. I dont own that one but i believe it is slightly different. this is a matte version and slightly peachier. The top color is a neutral nude peachy pink and the darker color is a roseier mauve but still in the neutral beigey family. these are very pigmented so i use a light hand. It looks similar to my Pillow Talk blush but without the shimmer and is less warm. Pillow Talk looks a lot more bronzey/muddy compared to this swatched on the hand. The blushes are def considered a nude because it doesnt overpower the rest of your face. It looks super natural and goes really well with a smokey eye. It doesnt last as long as her chic to cheek blushes
highlighter- this is suppose to be the Bar of Gold highlighter in her collection. i dont own that one but i do enjoy this highlight in the palette. it is a natural sheen and not as gold as i thought it would be. It looks very yellow in the pan but it transfers as s soft delicate sheen that leans gold but still super super wearable even if you have cooler skintone. It isnt as pigmented as the other powders.
overall this is an outstanding palette for the woman on the go. again it is great for travel because you literally have everthing you possibly need,. the formula is creamy and blendable. It does have more kickup than her other powders but it blends so well i dont mind it. I wouldnt purchase this for full price so its not a must have. It is def a great deal and im glad i got my hands on it. I wont be repurchasing because i dont reach for it unless i am traveling. I can get better highlighter out of an eyeshadow, smudging eyeliner to get a black smokey eye. Also i much prefer the longevity of her Ecstasy blush and Contour Wand for bronzing. This is still a great palette to have i am just not in love with it because i prefer her inidvidual items.

In each Instant Look in a Palette, there are three eye shadows, two blush pans, a bronzer and a highlight powder. When you open the mirrored lid, you see that the pans are arranged in seven steps starting top left and moving clockwise.
The first eye color is always a prime or “Brighten” shade. Smokey Eye Beauty’s Brighten is a fairly standard champagne shimmer. The second is a matte “Enhance” shade which is a beautiful taupe that blondes can use as a brow powder as well as an eye shadow. The third shadow, the “Smoke” shade, is a matte charcoal black. It doesn’t shift blue on me but it’s not a brown/black either. It can be used wet with an angled eyeliner brush on days when you don’t want to use it as a lid color or crease color.
The shadows blend smoothly for me without any patchiness, but sometimes fallout from the black shadow lands in the gold highlight pan.
The bronzer isn’t shimmery. It’s deep enough for light to medium skin tones, just like the bronzer in one of her other palettes, Seductive Beauty.
The two cheek colors can be layered or worn separately, depending on your preference. If you’re familiar with Cheek-to-Chic in First Love, this is the same nude/pink pop shade with a lighter companion nude blush color.
The highlighter is a pressed version of Bar of Gold, a very popular highlighter in the line that keeps selling out. It can be used on cheekbones, around the eyes, the Cupid’s bow, down the bridge of the nose. I have a light complexion (NC20 in MAC) and the effect on me is subtle rather than glaring. I can build up the pressed version but it doesn’t swatch as well as the single Bar of Gold in the tiny box.
I like the size of this palette for flying. It takes up very little room in a purse, tote, or carry-on bag yet I have my shadows, blush, bronzer and highlight together in one compact. I like holding it in one hand while I apply with the other hand, reaching for different brushes as I need them. It saves time in the morning when I’m traveling because there is less fumbling and rummaging.
Before I wear powder shadows, I use an eye primer or a cream shadow as a base. When I do, my shadows wear better and look better. Sometimes I use ByTerry Ombre Blackstar in Black Pearl or Mercure from lid to crease and then go over it with the black shadow in this. I use the taupe as a transition shade and can use either the Brighten shadow or the Bar of Gold highlight under the brow bone. I like to use the It Cosmetics Airbrush Precision Shadow Brush #112 to pick up the black shadow and smoke up the lid.
There are only seven pans in here and the palette costs $75 so you certainly want to use them all. If you know that you’ll never wear the black shadow, even as an eyeliner, this is an easy skip. Charlotte has other Instant Look palettes, too. Seductive Beauty is also good for a smoldering, dramatic eye but the darkest shade in that palette is an espresso brown instead of black. If you like rusty autumn hues, Beauty Glow is gorgeous. Natural Beauty will deliver a light, soft no-makeup look.
I’ve heard some complaints that the blush pans are little. Yes, they are small but I either pinch the brush head or use a travel-size brush to apply. Again, I take these Instant Look palettes with me on trips so I like the convenient size of the compact. Charlotte Tilbury’s Cheek-to-Chic blushes are much larger if you need a big pan. I have First Love (nude), Love Glow (natural pink flush), Ecstasy (peach/bronze), Love is the Drug (cool, bright pink), and Sex on Fire (dusty rose), and they are all beautiful.
I love the Instant Look palettes and couldn’t resist buying all four. I frequently use the bronzer and highlight pans as eyeshadows as well. Smokey Eye Beauty is available on Beautylish.com
