Lapiz of Luxury is a gorgeous cornflower blue, with perhaps a bit of dustiness. It has a creme finish and is opaque in two coats. The formula is ever so slightly thinner than most Essies, but it is not runny or watery and it remains easy to work with. Two thin coats is all that is needed to reach opacity, and it dries down to a shiny finish. It also dries down slightly darker than the bottle colour. It is a beautiful shade and has good lasting power like all Essies – 5 days as a manicure without base and top coats. It didn’t chip and I only suffered minor tipwear. It is similar to Bikini So Teeny but has no shimmer and is darker. I bought this to match the blue flowers on my dress and I got many compliments. Another great colour from Essie.

This is a very confusing color. I see a cornflower blue, but all of my friends say it’s purple. Nonetheless, it is a very beautiful purplish blue color. I love wear it on my toes. The formula is good, streaky at the first coat but covers well in two medium coat. I normally don’t like Essie’s brush since it’s too small and unable to hold a decent amount of polish.

This nail polish is a real winner. I initially bought it because I loved the colour, but this polish turned out to exceed my expectations. The main reason why I love it so much is because of the formula. One coat is enough for sufficient colour, and it does NOT chip easily. I could keep this polish on for ages. I am searching for more Essie polishes like this in different colours. Overall great product!

When will I ever learn that Essie and I just don’t get along! I’d only tried 3 other polishes before buying Lapis of Luxury and all 3 were disappointing – thin, watery, pooled at my cuticles (because of how thin they are). I was hoping Lapis of Luxury would be different. I was wrong.
For starters, the polish I have looks nothing like that pictured above, nor does it look like lapis lazuli – it’s much more purple – closer to the colour of lavender or lilacs. But I do like the colour. I tend to use more “traditional” nail polish colours (pinks, berries, reds, very dark burgundies and browned reds) and til now, my only “wacky” shade has been OPI’s Yodel Me On My Cell (a teal blue/green shade, which I pretty much reserved for my toes). But LofL appealed to me. I’ve put it on my fingers (because I’m not ready to redo my toes yet) and while I really like the colour, it took 3 coats even to approach opacity. And despite this having a thin texture, it seems to take ages to dry. As much as I like the colour, I think I’ll look for something similar in OPI or Zoya, since I generally tend to have better results with those brands (which isn’t to say they don’t have clinkers too, but generally, I find them to give better colour with fewer coats).
UPDATE: Okay, I’m eating a bit of humble pie here. While I still find the polish watery during the application process, I have to say that I’m more than a little surprised by how well this polish is wearing. It’s day 3 for me (or maybe day 4) and while I’m being a bit careful (wearing gloves to wash dishes most of the time and for cleaning the sink, etc.), I’m still surprised that I’ve had neither chipping nor tip wear. So I might just give a few more Essie polishes a try! Oh and it irks me that I found this today at Target for FOUR DOLLARS less than I paid on Saturday at Shopper’s Drug Mart. GRRRR.

This color is an interesting little thing. The Google searches of Lapis of Luxury will lead you to believe it’s more vibrant than it actually is. This is actually a dreamy looking creme, sitting cozily between periwinkle and ash blue. That sounds a little drab, but with all those qualities it still manages to be very beautiful and soothing. It still pops and leaves an impression amongst the typical red-oranges and mint greens that are everywhere in the summer and spring time. Speaking of which, I think this color is a year-round type of shade, appropriate in all seasons. My skin wants to make this polish look very purple, but I have warm yellow toned brown skin. I imagine this looking quite pretty on all skintones though. Formula wise, Lapis of Luxury is in typical Essie like fashion, thin on the first coat but buildable. By the second coat the color comes into play but a third coat really rounds it out. It is possible, with a steady hand and good technique to get it fully opaque in two coats though, for my own sanity I just use three. It wears well and lasts long. I top my polishes with Seche Vite or Out the Door and that really eliminates any chipping problems for me. I would absolutely repurchase this, there are no substitute polishes for those moments you can’t decide if you’re feeling moody or lively, girly or indifferent.. when you want something beautiful and unique but not complicated or typical.. polishes like Lapis of Luxury fit the bill.

This was given to me as a gift, and I am so thankful for it! The color is nice, but I am mostly impressed with the consistency of this polish. It basically does the job for you, as it puddles in just the right ways and is neither streaky nor clumpy. I wish all polishes were this way!

Lovely blue, periwinkle-ish color. Applies easily, wears well (several days) with a base and top, and is opaque in two coats. If you can catch it on sale, even better, because who doesn’t like to save a buck or two? I use this most on my toes in summer, it’s just cute.

I love blues, and this is no exception. The color is a periwinkle-ish color to my eye. It applied mostly opaque in two coats and total opacity in three. I’ve had streaky polish from Essie before (uh hem, Butler, Please!) but this applied like butter. (Keep in mind that I use a base and top coat with all my manicures.)
Drying time was typical of most of the nail polishes I own, as was the wear time, which can be up to a week if I haven’t tried picking at my nails (a bad habit of mine). Keep in mind that when it does chip, it chips very easily after the first one falls off, and in big chunks at that.

I loved the color but I think I might have gotten an old bottle because after a day it would peel off in one full sheet & I used it on several occassions. This was a 3 coater & I always use Essie base/top coats. I bought it again just to see if it was my bottle or just the formula of the color. I gave my old one to a friend to see she would have better luck.
