I just don’t know why my experience with this moisturiser was so different to others rave reviews?! Let’s start with the packaging, great design, the bottle and pump action dispenser are great, it smells amazing, not overpowering just a subtle vanilla scent. However, for me that’s where the positives end. I found it quite difficult to rub in and it kind of felt tacky for longer than a moisturiser usually would. Then it dried down to a very matte finish which left my skin looking flaky and powdery almost! It didn’t sit well under foundation at all, it made my base look streaky I tried with and without a primer over it also. I just couldn’t get on with this at all, I like to give things a fair trial before writing a review and I did use over half of the bottle before I finally decided I just never liked the look of my make up at all on days that I used this product. I have a very oily t zone and didn’t find it’s mattifying properties to last any longer than 2 or 3 hours. All in all, a disappointment as I had high hopes given the reviews. Thumbs down from me!

I used to use this back when my skin was extremely oily and sensitive and it was my all-time favorite moisturizer. Now my skin is severely dry and sensitive due to chronic illness, which is a shame because I can’t use this wonderful product anymore. It is super light and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, which is always a plus for oily skin. But it also is just moisturizing enough so your skin feels refreshed and hydrated. The finish definitely is matte, so people who have problems with shine early on will love this. It’s really the ideal moisturizer for oily to combination skin and I definitely recommend it. I wouldn’t try it if you’re dry, though.

This has become my HG moisturizer. I bought it on a whim because I have a silicone allergy and saw that this was completely silicone and oil free.
I have extremely dry skin at the moment and this is really great under makeup. The scent is barely there and the packaging is AMAZING. The product comes in a glass bottle with a pump and it lasts for about two months with every day use (it may last longer because I also use it on my neck). It keeps your skin moisturized throughout the day but also helps with oil control (I do tend to have an oily t-zone if i’ve been very active).
It’s not runny, it kind of feels like a primer but it does spread very easily. I highly recommend.
edit 02-15-15; so after using this for months and months i went to reorder last month only to realize that thebalm cosmetics no longer carries this on their website so im assuming theyre no longer making it. im really depressed about this because this was the ONLY thing that worked for me even when my skin was super oily or super dry and during the midwest’s crazy hot summers and horrible winters. back to the drawing board.

I only recently discovered TheBalm products and am in total love with this brand. I have yet to be disappointed with this line. I have been using all of their skin care line and love this lotion. It goes on smooth, sets fast and makes my skin a perfect canvas for my foundation. I don’t have super oily skin right now but used it a few times when my skin was acting up and a tad shiny and it worked beautifully.

I bought this as a part of a set on clearance at Marshall’s that came with the Geranium Toner and the Kiwi Scrub. In the set it only ended up costing about $7 which is pretty cheap since it retails at $34. I’m always nervous about trying new lotions, but I couldn’t find my regular moisturizer one day and it kind of forced me to try it – I’m SO glad I did!
First off, I love the pump. It makes it easy to dispense a small amount of product (I only need one pump for my whole face) and it keeps it sanitary. It smells delicious when I’m putting it on but the smell fades after about a half hour. What I like best about it is the “oil-absorbing” property. It definitely keeps my face from getting greasy all day, and yet still provides enough moisturizer to keep it from getting dry!
UPDATE: I found that use over two months slowly dried my skin out…maybe it will be better on more humid days.

As someone with pretty oily skin, I have never expected one product alone to solve all of my oily skin problems. I picked this up at a major discount at TJ Maxx on a whim. I use this in addition to a witch hazel/apple cider vinegar toner to control my oil. I have been pretty impressed with this product! I know that even people with oily skin need to moisturize, but it has been tough to find one that doesn’t make my oily skin worse. No, this product is not going to prevent you from producing any oil all day. However, I do notice an improvement over other lightweight moisturizers & moisturizers for oily skin that I have tried. I like how lightweight it feels and after applying my skin feels soft and matte, not greasy or like I just smeared on product. I still use an oil strip around midday but I feel like my skin gets overall less oily, which has really decreased the amount of oily skin related breakouts that I have gotten in the past month or so. And I should note that it is so easy for a product to break me out and I have not had an issue with this one (perhaps that is because there is no SPF, which always seems to break me out). I even went back and bought another bottle at the cheap TJ Maxx price! Overall, I think this has a nice subtle mattifying quality while giving oily skin that very low level of moisture that it needs.

This product comes in a 4 oz. plastic bottle with a push top dispenser. I only reviewed this product for a week due to the fact that I purchased several skin care launch products from this line and was so disappointed, so I returned everything. The makeup remover burned my eyes, and the combination of cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer caused my face to turn red from irritation and break out like CRAZY. I literally had to soothe myself with vitamin E for another week just to get my skin to calm down. I am not typically a very sensitive person and have never had this adverse of a reaction to a product.
This specific product was light in texture. Not greasy at all. But almost like it didn’t do much. After application I noticed my skin felt tacky. I only used this as my moisturizer. I have to say that my skin wasn’t overly oily by mid day, but it wasn’t necessarily matte either.
I purchased it at Marshalls (they got in on a special launch buy) for $12.99, so I’m guessing it will probably retail for around $20. I would not recommend it.
