I noticed that this hasn’t been reviewed in a long time so decided that I should do so. I have used it for a few weeks and really do like it. I use retin a and need to use a heavier moisturizer at night and in the winter.
I thought that I needed something heavier year round even though it made my skin look shiny and oily because despite having used retin a for years, my skin would peel in places if I didn’t. When I started double cleansing, I realized that the first step with cleansing oil took care of all of my issues with peeling skin.
My skin still breaks out within days every time that I’ve tried using almost all moisturizers. This hasn’t caused any issues so far. I will definitely update my review if that changes.
This works well under makeup. My skin doesn’t look shiny or oily during the day even when it’s hot and humid. I took a lippie off just because I hate that the full size product comes in a tub. I really wish that so many manufacturers didn’t package their products that way.

I don’t like the fact that this smells perfumey…also I didn’t notice a difference in my skin and i used up the whole bottle. It also broke me out. It’s also easy to squeeze out too much product

I picked up a tiny tube of this at Ross, marked down twice on clearance for $4. I’d been testing a stri-vectin product that was making my skin super unhappy, so I bought this on a whim to see if it would repair the resulting blemishes and uneven essential. I am now cursed to pay full price for it forever, because I am HOOKED. It sinks right in with zero oily/heavy residue. The fragrance is light and not distracting. It’s perfect under makeup. And speaking of makeup, I can’t believe how clear and even this has made my skin. From unhappy skin to nearly flawless in, like, two weeks. Super impressed.

I really love this moisturizer. I have tried a lot of moisturizers but this was my first gel cream moisturizer and I am so glad I tried it.
Most of the regular cream type moisturizers I have used will sit on top of my skin making it feel oily, even if they say “oil free” or “lightweight” I would still have this oily film on my face that would never go away. As someone that uses mineral foundation often, this was just a bad mix so I had kind of given up on moisturizers.
Then I saw this one and thought maybe it will be different and I was right. It’s a light and bouncy, slightly cooling, green gel and it sinks right into my skin. When I touch my face I just feel very soft and plump skin, no weird film or oil sitting on my skin at all. Just very soft hydrated skin.
It’s so nice under makeup, especially if you like mineral makeup this is for you. A normal non gel formula will always break me out too, but this has never caused any breakouts what so ever. I have combo oily skin a little more dry on my cheeks in the colder months, and this is wonderful for me all year.
It does have a fragrance that kind of reminds me of cucumbers, it doesn’t bother me because of my allergies, I don’t smell things like I used to, so it’s not strong or overpowering to me at all, if I can even smell it.
I do wish this was in a squeeze tube and not a jar, I don’t like sticking my fingers in the jar so I use q-tips instead, but a squeeze tube or a pump would be way better.
Either way, I for sure will keep buying this moisturizer as long as they make it.

In Europe this product is called OIL-FREE OXYGENATING GEL CREAM.
My skin tends to get oily when I don’t use the right products, and this one made my skin incredibly oily, which lasted for days after using. When I saw the ingredients I realised why: alcohol, orange, fragrances. Maybe more, but I don’t recognise all of the names. I got this as a tester from a saleswoman who claimed Philosophy is the new it-brand in the Netherlands. Her enthusiasm was almost scary. She actually sold me the Philosophy micro delivery, which I’m also going to throw away. I have more testers from this brand, but I might not even bother trying.
Be warned: Philosophy is not for people with an acne-prone, oily and sensitive skin.

I only apply this at night because during the day I prefer something with SPF. It smells great and it feels very hydrating on my face. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and smooth, even my husband loves this stuff. The only thing that concerns me is the long ingredient list. I have acne prone skin and it has not broken me out. I will continue to use this.

Got a sample with my Sephora order. Don’t like it. Hate the fragrance. There are much better oil free light moisturizers out there that’s much more economical. Ouch~ just went on Sephora to check out the price, $49 for this jar? Woh!! look it the long ingredient list of chemicals! No way! My current favourite light moisturizer is Green Beaver Aloe Day Cream

I have very oily skin that is clog-prone and breaks out easily. Despite this, my skin is still in need of moisture.
All lotion based moisturizers cause my skin to become super oily and to break out. My skin tends to respond better to gel based moisturizers. As many people have had success using Philosophy products, I decided to give their Take a Deep Breath gel cream moisturizer a try.
First off, Take a Deep Breath gel cream moisturizer is not sold in stores in Canada (at least nowhere that I was able to find it). This includes Philosophy counters in department stores (e.g. The Bay). As a result, I had to purchase it online.
I purchased the jar version of the moisturizer, which contains no SPF. For your reference, the squeeze tube version of the Take a Deep Breath gel cream moisturizer contains SPF, while the jar version does not.
Take a Deep Breath gel cream moisturizer has a light, whipped-like consistency. It has an unusual scent that is hard to describe (reminds me a little bit of mothballs). The products is a pale aqua green colour, and it feels cool to the touch. Upon touching it, there is no mistaking that it is a gel moisturizer. When applied, it absorbs into dry areas of the skin rather quickly, and it feels cool and refreshing. The scent dissipates upon application.
The product did an okay job moisturizing (I did not get baby soft skin as a result of using it, but my skin did feel reasonably hydrated). However, in the areas where I get super oily (i.e. my nose, my chin) the product never completely sunk in. Instead, it kind of sat on top of the skin, regardless of how much I tried to rub it in and despite how little I used. I also found that it made my skin super oily (even more oily than usual). For example, if I ran a hand or my fingers over a small area of my face a few hours after applying the moisturizer, it/they would be saturated with oil.
Although this product caused me to become excessively oily, I will say that it did not aggravate my skin in any other way. For example, it did not cause me to break out and it did not irritate my skin; it just caused me to become super oily. Given that the vast majority of moisturizers break me out, I was impressed that the product caused me no reaction; however, I could not overcome the super-duper oily results. For this reason, I will not be repurchasing it.
My opinion: this is not a bad product, but perhaps just not for everyone. It is marketed for oily skin, but from my experience, it may not be the best option for those who are excessively oily, like me.

i love this moisturizer. i have oily-acne prone skin, and this moisturizer doesnt break me out or make me oily. it sinks into my skin and keeps me hydrating without over doing it. butt i recently stopped buying it because a review from paulas choice beautypedia scared me. it stated that this moisturizer actually causes skin to age faster because of the oxygen ingredient it contains. i have tried researching about it and so far havent found anything that finds this true…. soooo since i cant find any other moisturizer to my liking, i am going to go back to this one :).. if u have very sensitive, oily, acne prone skin, i definitely recommend this.

This is a great moisturizer, my go-to in the summer. It’s very lightweight and is perfect to wear under makeup. My skin is super sensitive and it didn’t break me out (a rarity). However, I would only recommend this to those who have oily skin because I imagine the formula would be drying if you don’t. It can be a little drying on me and my skin is extremely oily!
