Yes, it comes out a cool gel texture, but once spread and applied, it makes your face look just as oily as any oil. I don’t mind a dewy look, but this made my face look almost oilier than when I apply a straight up/facial oil to my face.
I found the best way to use this is to mix with your moisturizer, but at the price, I just don’t find the product worth it. I also think it may have caused irritation/clogged pores.
It’s too bad, because I loved the texture and idea at first, but the execution doesn’t live up to the name and promises. I could only see chronically dry skin that loves oil based products loving this.
Wouldn’t recommend. I would personally check out an Acure Oil (I like the Soothing Tansy) for a good oil, or Indeed Labs Snoxin for a gel textured serum.

CeraVe Skin Renewing Gel Oil…not sure where to start with this one. It has a super list of ingredients, is fragrance and dye free, has a sanitary pump package, and promises some great hydrating benefits. I tried to give it a fair shake, and found it is probably one of the most universally useful products I’ve ever tried, except as a straight moisturizer, which his what it advertises to be. When used around eyes or on face, the product caused irritation, and stayed on the surface of skin, a bit like water soluble Vaseline. So, as a moisturizer, it would make a great occlusive for those who don’t have sensitive skin. In my desperation to love the gel oil I also tried it as a body lotion, where it again sat on top of my skin, and didn’t really hydrate my very dry areas. In another attempt, I tried it as a kind of eye-makeup remover–smearing around eyes where I typically use waterproof concealer, then wiping off with a damp cloth. The product did an excellent job at removing eye makeup, but even this short lived contact with eye skin was slightly irritating. Usually products that don’t work on my face are relegated to use on my hands or body. Since the gel oil already proved to be a lackluster body lotion, I tried adding it as a booster to some hand cream. Voila, this is the ticket which will allow me to use up my bottle. I won’t repurchase, but I still think it is a great product for non-sensitive skin types, and its versatility is phenomenal.

This is the best everyday moisturizer I have found. It is for dry skin, but it might be good as a foundation mixer.
In summer I apply this as soon as I can, so sunscreens can be applied over it and melt in.
It’s great with mineral sunscreens, as a final step in skincare, and as an excema spot treatment.

I have super sensitive skin, so your mileage will probably vary, but there was something in this that made it immediately sting to put on my skin and that led to increased redness the next day. Sad, because I wanted to love this.

I was a bit annoyed with myself for buying this, as I am addicted to the healing ointment in the tube, which seems a much better bargain than this small pump bottle for $22.99 in Target. I live in a cold, (negative seven degrees this morning) dry climate, and if I don’t use the healing ointment at night, my dry skin is very tight.
The consistency of this gel-cream is different. It’s thinner and easier to spread. I find that I’ve been using it every day as my day moisturizer, over an HA serum and The Ordinary 2% SA. I avoid the eye area, so my makeup doesn’t smear, and lightly blot with a tissue before foundation. Like the ointment, I think this product does an excellent job of protecting the lipid barrier. I have somewhat reactive skin, and have suffered no breakouts. I think it will be a seasonal product for me. One less lippie for the crazy price discrepancy-but it’s actually worth it.

I LOVE THIS STUFF!! This is my all-time favorite moisturizer. First of all, it’s the perfect consistency – it’s just enough of an “oil” to feel like it’s really hydrating my dry skin, but not oily enough to feel greasy. And it’s not messy like an oil, it comes out more like a gel. The only thing I dislike about this is how small of a container it comes in – it’s pretty expensive, imo, for the amount of product you get, but I love it so I feel like it’s worth it.

I didn’t quite know how to use this. I does leave my face a bit shiny but I started using tretinoin (generic Retin-A) and found my face a bit dry sometimes. I started using one, and only one, pump at night under a light moisturizer and my skin is much smoother and plumper. Its been a perfect addition to my skin care since using the tretinoin. A little goes a long way. Probably not good for those with oily skin.

I like this product a lot more now that I have figured out how to use it.
I bought it out of curiosity – a new Cerave product, yay! I should buy it immediately! (It’s about $22 at Walgreen’s, but there are often sales at the drugstores and Ulta.) And I got it home and found out that it’s pretty much a watery Vaseline-type product. Which should not have been a surprise! But I didn’t know what to do with it.
I ended up using it on my nose and parts of my scalp (where I am convinced it cleared up some psoriasis). I used it on my neck and chest – wonderful moisture and actually the sheen looks nice. It’s a nice unscented product, great moisture, terrific packaging. But CeraVe sets a high bar.
But the best use I have found is mixing it with the CeraVe Cream Serum at night. One pump of serum, one pump of gel oil, mix together, apply all over face & neck and rub in. I really like the Cream Serum, but I need additional moisture. Combined, I get a great treatment plus moisturizer. My face feels comfortable while my skin is getting a great treatment from the retinol and ceramides.

I have almost finished my first bottle of this and have already repurchased for when I run out.
I absolutely love this line of Cerave products. They are pricey so I try to plan ahead and buy when they are BOGO50 or otherwise on sale. I am willing to pay full price if necessary though.
I thought surely this would break me out or be too heavy, but I love the cream serum and night cream from this line so much that I had to pick this up to try as soon as I spotted it. I am very glad I did!
I have sensitive acne-prone skin that has become dryer and dryer recently. My cheeks are relatively normal, but I deal with mild rosacea there. My chin is relatively normal usually but I tend to get hormonal breakouts on a monthly cycle (although this skincare line has helped a good bit with that). My nose rarely gets very oily anymore and isn’t really dry but gets annoyingly flaky for no reason. My forehead is dry and often itchy as well.
And everything under the sun breaks me out or causes congestion in my pores.
I tried layering this under my moisturizer at first, but soon found that mixing them together works much better.
I primarily mix this with the Skin Renewing Night Cream every night (a small dab of cream + one pump and apply over face and neck) and love it. I often do not wash my easily dehydrated face in the morning (opt to leave it be, rinse with water only, or use an alcohol free witch hazel toner instead and only wash at night or if I want to wear makeup). I find that this combo absorbs well over night and can keep my skin hydrated and balanced all day as well, if necessary.
I have also successfully used this as a primer under makeup. Works particularly well under my IT Cosmetics CC+ powder foundation.
I love that this is a pump dispenser and an opaque bottle. Much more sanitary and shelf stable than other packaging options.

This is pricey but for me it is working. What it is, is a ceramide booster that it says to mix with your moisturizer. I put one half pump into my CeraVePM moisturizer and I have combo oily skin atm and this absorbs without any issues. Also I notice my skin barrier is better I notice I wake up with less redness. I’m very pale and blotchy by nature because my skin is so sensitive with this I can see I have less redness and my skin is even, moisturized, and smooth.
I personally like this at bedtime as a serum I wouldn’t use this in the day time unless I was treating dry patches or had very dry skin. Also since it helps repair the moisture barrier I can’t see this doing much for me if I didn’t have these types of skin problems in the first place. But since my skin is very sensitive and reactive I find this product to be excellent. For the price you only get 1 ounce but you only need a half a pump mixed with moisturizer and I get the best results.
I’m going to repurchase but on sale but for ceramides 22$ wasn’t too bad when I think about it. I’m quite happy with this. Recommended if you have problems retaining moisture in your skin or have barrier issues I think people like that would find this helpful and one of the lesser expensive ceramide creams out there.
