I too, am surprised by some of these reviews. I don’t notice an offensive odor from this at all. I have very oily skin and this is a great moisturizer, without the greasiness. I’ve been using this for several years and it works better for me than the other oil free brands. For those who think this comes in a regular jar?? It does not. It is in an airtight pump, which dispenses the perfect amount of cream when pressed. Yes, the prices of Kate’s products are high, but I think most of them are worth it and there are several that I just can’t live without, this being one of them..

Smelled like musty towels. Moisturized okay but skin still dry.

As a moisturizer for oily skin it’s good nothing special but it works. However I love the packaging. It allows you to use the perfect amount of product without using too much. For this reason I’m purchasing it again.

At first, I wasn’t sure what to think of this product. I’m used to applying moisturizers liberally, but when I put on this moisturizer, my skin was overwhelmed. It constantly felt sticky and oily. I read the instructions on the container and it says to apply a thin layer, which was surprising because this product is so thin and runny. So I tried applying a thin layer and voila! My skin was awesomely moisturized for the entire day and it felt completely light and absorbed really quickly. I’ll be honest, I worried because I have a pretty oily t-zone and if it was making all these other areas oily, then perhaps this product was not meant to be, but I was pleasantly surprised and it managed to have a balanced moisture spread across my face. There is a bit of a medicinal smell to it, so if you’re sensitive to smells, this may not be for you. But otherwise, I think that it’s a great product and would definitely purchase for the winter time!
selfishRat9
The smell is absolutely disgusting. And I’m not even sensitive when it comes to the scent of products but this one is just gross. It smells literally like burnt rubber. And I honestly can’t feel good about putting something like that on my face..
Consistency wise it’s really thin and really light.

When I went into Sephora recently, the sales lady used this on me to help me find a foundation. This was nice whenever she used it on me and I do like that it doesn’t leave as oily of a look on my skin like my Active Moist does but I don’t know, it is just okay for me.
I didn’t break out from this and I have pretty acne prone skin so I am super happy about that. I think it did an okay job of moisturizing my skin during the day and I do enjoy the packaging, but there are 2 cons I have about this moisturizer.
1.) Sometimes when I mix a sunscreen in with it (this moisturizer doesn’t have SPF) it leaves a white cast on my skin and it doesn’t blend in. So this isn’t ideal for during the day because of no SPF. But when I combine it with another moisturizer with SPF, I don’t get that white cast.
And 2.) When I use this during the day, I use the Smashbox Pore Minimizer Primer for my face and no matter how long I let the moisturizer sit, my primer will always bead up and leave stuff all over my face that I have to wipe off later. It sometimes happens when I use the Photo Finish Light Primer by Smashbox as well. I recommend to pat your face primer in very gently when using this during the day.
The smell is odd, it smells like chemicals but it isn’t super strong. And the packaging is nice, I have never used something with this type of packaging and I kind of like it. Overall for $60+, I don’t know if it is really worth it. I haven’t had bad reactions to it but it does sometimes make my morning routine take longer. I’m going to finish up since there is quite a bit of product but I don’t think I will repurchase. Get a sample of this first before trying and spending a ton of money on it!

I have combination oily skin. It is not sensitive skin. This stuff is amazing! It feels like I’m applying a refreshing cloud to my to face when I apply this. It is very light and smooth and goes on like silk. That’s where the compliments end. I just started using moisturizers and the sephora moisturizer would give me daily compliments on my skin (and I don’t even like the moisturizer). I have recieved no compliments on my skin in the last two weeks, but then again it could be because people are used to a better complexion from me so take this past comment with a grain of salt. If this was 30 dollars instead of 65 I would buy. since it’s not in air tight concealer when you use it, some of the ingredients will lose their effectiveness.
dejectedMagpie4
I got this as a sample and personally I have only used it for 3/4 days. It is a weird consistency it looks really oily even though it says oil free. I have a huge side burn bump and a white head plus other small bumps on chin. I thought the comments were suggestive a 20 dollar moisturizer should not do what it did to my skin. I have better luck with neutrogena combination moisturizer.
cruelPlover9
Well.. It’s alright. Not something to rave about. My skin doesn’t really like oily moisturizers so I tried this. If you have a really dry skin, I don’t think this will be enough for you. It’s a small bottle for its price.
blissfulLemur4
This moisturizer looks slick and shiny when you apply to clean skin, but after about 10 minutes, it completely sinks in and leaves you with a velvety finish. It’s not luminous nor matte. Great base for makeup because it’s very thin and fully absorbs. Like the SPF factor as well.
cynicalSeagull4
First of all, I have moderate acne. It’s not cystic or severe – but still, acne. I have now realized that moisturizers wont remove my acne in any way, so I am just looking for a moisturizer that feels good and well – moisturizes my face. So, in other words, my expectations wasn’t that big. And I feel like this did absolutely nothing… I’m currently using 10% benzoylperoxid on my face which is very irritating and drying. This sure helps a bit, but those small, small pieces of skin is still there and I just feel like any moisturizer would do the same thing as this for the same price. The packaging – the little plastic thingy that’s on all MB products I thought was great in the beginning, but now it’s just hard to get out the product and it squirts everywhere…
I’m not going to buy this again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because you can find cheaper products that does the same job or a better job.

Meh, it is alright. I prefer Murad’s oil free moisturizer.
It is kind-of hard to get product out of the tube and if you get this in your eyes–ouchie!
spiritedLlama9
i love the cute little bottle it came in but it was hard to squeeze out after a while of usage. i used this for a few weeks, the consistency was thick but spreadable. slowly i realised i was starting to break out so i stopped using this and my skin was back to normal. after putting this on my face, i feel like there’s a thin film on my face, which can be irritating for some
alertOwl5
I never have much to say about moisturizer because it’s very difficult to tell how a moisturizer is helping your skin beyond the molecular level.
Pros:
-leaves skin feeling refreshed
-nice scent
-perfect spf amount
-frangrance-free
Cons:
-leaves a film on the face for a few hours after application
grumpyHyena1
This is a thick moisturizer, but does not actually feel moisturizing at all on my normal to dry skin. It feels like a thick barrier on top of my skin that does not allow my skin to breathe. This was a fail for me.
guiltyRat9
I am always searching for more natural and healthier alternatives to products. Unfortunately, this moisturiser was awful for me. The scent of it is unpleasant, the colour change (which occurs quickly), even more so. The feel on the skin is very thick and greasy, even with just the tiniest application. It also leaves a dirty, gritty feel after it is applied. I didn’t feel like I was well hydrated with it, and it broke me out something terrible. I won’t even use it on my hands or legs for the feeling of it. I just can’t see how this works for anyone, unfortunately.

I don’t really care much for this moisturizer. I’ve been using it for a month now and I don’t really find that this does much for my skin but it doesn’t worsen it so I suppose that it’s not all that bad. I find it to be a bit too thick for my liking so it goes on heavy and creates a thick barrier. I actually find that due to its thickness, it traps in a lot of heat in my face this summer so I felt sweaty underneath and nowhere for it to escape. I’m not all that fond of the smell either but it’s not the deal breaker. It has a slight odour of organic herbs and then masked with a slight minty aroma to break up the smell. While there isn’t supposed to be any oil in the product, I did find that it felt slightly greasy but not overly. I do like that my skin gets the right amount of moisture from it so I don’t get that tight feeling when I wear makeup. If I wear it under makeup, I notice the best results only if I blot my entire face with a tissue or if I wait a while and then blot it with a blotting film. I do like to use it as a nighttime moisturizer for now.

I started using this product upon the recommendation of a sales person at Whole Foods. I was pregnant at the time and I was looking for a safe, cruelty-free alternative to the Aveeno moisturizer I had been using.
The price is a bit steep, but a little bit of this lotion goes a VERY long way. With daily use, a tube could last almost six months. Even in Chicago winters this product provides enough moisture and I have not had any issues with the dry patches or seasonal flakiness I was accustomed to when using Aveeno. I can safely say this product has not caused any breakouts or other irritation.
The product I buy comes in a more traditional lotion tube; I’m not sure what the product pictured is.
innocentDoughnut4
This really didn’t give me enough moisture. I do give credit for the healthier aspects of this product.
This soaks in and almost dries, leaving my face feeling not moisturized at all. If you are extremely oily, maybe you will like it. As for me, it just isn’t the right formula for what I need.

I can see how people aren’t crazy about this product. It had to grow on me, but I love it now. The biggest issue for me was the price – I tested the product multiple times in Ulta before actually shelling out the $30 to buy it. I have sensitive combination skin and I’m also quite ingredient-conscious (try to stay away from parabens and allergic to common SPF ingredients such as oxy/avobenzone-common sunscreen ingredients, etc), so this looked promising with it’s natural ingredients. I wish this came in a pump, but the tube is necessary to knead and shake the product before applying it, since it can (apparently) separate in the tube. It smells like Froot Loops mixed with dust, but it fades pretty quickly once I put it on. The thing I really do not like about this product is the way it feels when I first put it on – very heavy and greasy. It’s easy to use too much, so I do small dollops at a time on individual sections of my face. It feels gross, really. But I have not had any issue with breakouts AT ALL and the heavy feeling goes away. My natural reaction when I feel the heaviness on my face is to panic, due to so many awful past experiences with heavy moisturizers, but I just have to remind myself that there is no oil and my skin won’t freak out. Sometimes I will dab my face with a tissue before putting on makeup, but it doesn’t make a difference. I do recommend waiting a few minutes before putting makeup on. I’ve had zero problems with breakouts and my existing blemishes seem to heal faster. My face isn’t dry, so it does moisturize, and I really appreciate that it does so without causing a ton of oil. It does have a bit of a sheen/glow to it, but it looks just fine on me (most dewy things make me look sweaty) and I’ve had no problems with sunburn at all and I wear this when I go jogging in the sun during the day. My favorite thing about this product is the safe, natural ingredients. But a very close second is the fact that my makeup looks FLAWLESS over it. It lasts so much longer! I’m a face-toucher, which probably contributes to my blemishes, but my makeup doesn’t move at all, even when I’ve had my hands on my face. I love looking on the mirror hours later and seeing my makeup looking just as good as it did when I put it on (especially my contouring work). That quality erased any doubts I had left about the product. I would have given it 5 lippies, but I’m not crazy about the price (worth it and expected for the ingredients though) and it doesn’t do anything to prevent blemishes. But I can definitely see myself repurchasing in the future, I really like this!

This is an okay moisturizer. I found it to be a little bit, not greasy, but kind of filmy. It left a sort of sheen on my face over the course of the day, which does not make sense to be because I often use heavier moisturizers on my face that leave an equal amount of sheen. I do not particularly like the feel of this on my face. I would probably not repurchase this. I much prefer Juice Beauty’s Tinted Moisturizer.

the other day i woke up with little bumps of acne on my forhead, i can get acne in other places on my face but i usually NEVER have acne on my forhead. i don’t stick to just one regimen so some nights i would use other moisturizers, but i was using this one 3 or 4 nights in a row until i noticed it was this so i stopped using it and id use the eradikate acne treatment(the glass bottle with pink solution ) and my acne went away. maybe that product was intended to cause mild acne/cystic so that people have to buy other skin care products like the acne line they have to rid of the acne that was caused by the oil free moisturizer.
morbidTruffle2
I don’t think it’s made for people with sensitive skin. I got cystic acne from using Kate product. Will never repurchase this.

I’m surprised at the reviews here for this product. I really do think it’s a fantastic moisturiser for combo/oily skin. The product literally just absorbs into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy residue which a lot of people with oily skin really fear. You only need a small amount and with using this twice a day it lasted me around 8 months. It doesn’t have any particular smell or at least I’ve used it so much I just don’t take any notice. Packaging is great because you can control how much you’re using. It is pretty expensive although I get a 40% discount. I’m onto my second tub!

I do like this as I think it is hydrating enough for winter time without being too greasy . It has a nice light but creamy consistency and spreads well on the skin. In general, I do like Mario Badescu products, but this didn’t wow me and I agree that it sits on the skin if you do not warm it up between your hands first. I prefer my Trader Joe’s Daily Moisturizer with SPF to this.
wornoutBuck7
this review is for the oil free moisturizer WITH spf. i do not like this at all. i have oily t zone, dry cheeks-so combo face. this is difficult to spread and doesn’t absorb very well. feels like a greasy film sitting on TOP of my face. i gave it a 2 because it did not break me out. will not repurchase.
grumpyLion8
Have been using this for a few weeks and am not totally sure about it.
I think I need to give it more time.
I love Mario Badescu through and through and every product I’ve used of theirs has does what it claimed; and actually this product does what it claims too, but I feel it’s not really HG.
Packaging > love how the top flips up, I think it’s kind of cool! I like the medical look of MB products. This packaging is hygenic.
Price > I think its a pretty decent price even though it is fucking overpriced in australia. but $30ish isnt too bad.
It has no scent. and I can’t believe this has given people break outs! I have super super oily skin (but no real pimples or acne – just a gross oil feeling). And using this is insane, it definitely does not clog pores at all. There is no shine and oil on my face all day! I usually need blotting papers but actually now i think about it, it does keep my oil in check.
I think I am after my HG and i grabbed this when i was in an inbetween rut so I am judging it more harshly than I should be. It does all it claimed, however I think it require more moisture & I worry about the lack of SPF for the AU sun..
I don’t feel for a moisturiser that it moisturises enough. I feel it keeps my pores unclogged and my face less oily. If anything this feels like a make up primer? Similar in consistency to smashbox primer.
This product is a good inbetweener for you oily faces like me!! but the search continues..
I’m giving this a 4 cause this does what it claimed, but in my heart i feel it more as a 3!
Will give an update after using this for a while.
