I’ve been lucky enough to test out a bunch of L’Oreal products, including from the company’s drugstore holdings (Garnier, L’Oreal) to high-end (La Roche Posay, Vichy). Some of it works great, some of it terrible. The Mela-D SPF 15 falls into the terrible category.
I guess I should be comparing it to the Vichy Reti-C SPF 15 I had used (and hoarded) until it became discontinued. I really liked the Reti-C product; the only hitch with that was that I realized that I needed to keep it in the fridge for potency and texture issues. However, I noticed a marked improvement in my amount of scarring due to acne.
This product is supposed to help acne scarring due to the inclusion of kojic acid, and the LHA (a modified version of salicylic acid that’s supposed to be gentler and more effective) is supposed to help with acne troubles. The SPF in there is supposed to help shield the skin while the actives are working.
Let me tell you that this does absolutely nothing. No improvement in acne scarring at all. What’s worse is the horrible smell and texture that does not improve upon refrigeration. It smells like alcohol and industrial cleaning agents (and according to Paula’s Choice, this has an obscene amount of isopropanol. I do think Paula Begoun slanders products unnecessarily in hopes that people buy her own product, and she frequently bad-mouths alcohol when it’s actually a crucial, necessary component in formulation, but in this situation, if there’s enough alcohol for me to detect it, it’s far too much). Additionally, the LHA does not do a single thing to reduce blemishes. In fact, I think the product made things worse during the summer (thankfully this does not seem to be an issue now that the weather’s gone colder).
I’m probably going to finish the month off using this, but once I get paid again, I’m switching to another product. If I had paid for this product instead of receiving it as a gift, I would have been steaming mad; this is absurdly priced for its terrible results.

One of the worst products I ever tried.
The smell of this stuff is horrid, it’s too greasy for me (oily skin) and I hate the way it feels on my skin, makes my imperfections and big pores stand out (not just a little but a lot), makes my skin red and burns. When I applied it on my cheeks, my eyes also burnt.

I’ve been using this treatment daily for the last two months, and at best, my dark spot on my cheek is very very slightly lighter, if at all. Fortunately I bought a sample for $1, which was pretty generously sized. It’ll probably last me several more months, but since the results are negligible to non-existent, I wouldn’t repurchase this product.

allthough it has SPF , Hydroquinon … i dont see any skin movement , i dont think its a anti pigment cream . I have normal skin without blemish , the cream texture is like Sun cream … easy to rub on face .

This is a review for the version without SPF.
I bought this together with the Effaclar foaming gel and toner while on a trip in Paris. I have a few acne marks that I hoped this moisturiser would help minimise. After a month of using this, I see absolutely no difference at all. My scars are still there and have not faded. I also don’t like that it doesn’t spread very easily and is not particularly nourishing. I have since gone back to my beloved Boots Time Delay and have upped my water intake.

Well I can´t say much at the moment about the improvement of my dark spots but overall the cream feels fantastic on my skin, it leaves it with a healthy looking glow and has improved the texture of my skin as well as the little pimples around my jaw, it feels very moisturizing yet not greasy it absorbs in no time so you have to work it fast.
It´s been around a week since I´m using it under my sunblock even though this has an SPF of 15 but my dermatologist recommend me to use a 50+. If I see noticeable improvements on the dark spots I will update and let you guys know 😉
Update; I have used 2 tubes of this and I have seen ZERO improvement of my spots, won´t repurchase again

I bought this product because of a review on Youtube where a girl said it would reduce the dark spots by 40%. I’ve been using this for a month twice a day, followed by a spf 60 moisturizer and have not a noticed any lightening effect. And if there is any lightening going on, it is probably 10%. I still see my sun spots when I take a photo of myself without makeup. Pretty disappointing!

OK, I bought this because I want to fade some sun damage and some aging spots. I don’t belive though that this alone can do anything, pretty much any product is useless used alone, unless is Sunscreen I was simply looking for a moisturizer to boost and help my skincare routine with my Sunscreen and Tretinoin. Also the fact that it has SPF 15 / PPD11 was a good catch for me as well.
Now the product is a mess. I applied this Moisturizer and it balled up like crazy, it didn’t sink in my skin at all, I felt like I used this and as I was puting it on it balled up so it was comming off again. They say it’s a good Make Up Primer…. Well this is rubbish to be honest. Also like the previous reviwer has statated the Kojic Acid is at such low place in the list that is very unlikely that is an active ingredient and will help, even mildly.
I like La Roche Posay products, specially Sunscreens but this is just plain useless and I am guessing it’s expensive too (don’t know it was a present) I won’t buy again. For a lightening product is much better to use a Serum with Kojic Acid like Garden Of Wisdom or SkinCeuticals Phyto+ .
OVERALL: This wants to do too much and does nothing because wants to be like a Sunscreen but for that is useless because the protections is weak. As a moisturizer is just not good enoguh for me. As for fading spots… you can dream baby this won’t do a thing. I preffer to use a Sunscreen a lone, as a moisturizer any one will do and as a skin lightener look somewhere else 😉

I bought this while traveling overseas (where it’s called Melani-D rather then Mela-D) and I love it as a moisturizer in the summertime. It keeps my skin bright and clear and it’s a very soothing, comforting formula. (I have dry, sensitive skin.) Since sun brings out more pigment problems, I always use a higher SPF. However, the lightening action is not as fast as Obagji Sunfader. If you have a serious dark spot, I’d use Obagi to lighten it, then this can be maintenance.

I really like La Roche Posay products. I use the Toleriane line because my skin is very sensitive (pre-rosacea) I have combo skin that can be slightly oily in the summer and dehydrated in the winter. (I live in So. Cal. not too extreme weather.) I like this product. It’s not greasy and goes on smoothly and sinks right in. I don’t normally use a primer under my foundation but I found that this does a really good job. My foundation goes on better and wears better all day. At the end of the day I feel a little more “dewey” but when I look in the mirror, it still looks perfect. I can’t tell if it’s helping my light sunspots yet. I’ve only been using for a week. But I can tell that it doesn’t irritate or make me break out. I’d buy it again.
