As a big fan of Sunday Riley products (the woman could sell me pretty much anything and I’d buy it no questions asked), I was eager to try out this cream and, of course, expecting a lot from it. Unfortunately, it was not love at first sight (or rather first slather). The main issue I had with the Bionic Cream was its scent, which I’d describe as sort of like a melted orange creamsicle crossed with a store bought, additive-laden banana pudding. In other words, it’s extremely cloying and synthetically sweet. I found this sort of strange because Sunday Riley’s face oils are very, very conspicuously left in their au naturel form, with no perfumes added to mask the scent of the herbal/plant oils. (Now, whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is a question best left to another day.) I would recommend trying to get hold of a sample of this before committing to the full size since the smell may be off-putting for some people.
Now with that out of the way, this moisturiser actually has grown on me over time. It’s fairly lightweight and doesn’t break out my sensitive, easily irritated skin. It also contains a stunning array of ingredients – ingredients lists with Sunday Riley products are always impressive but this just takes it to another level. Most moisturisers, even the high end ones, are packed with cheap filler ingredients with very little of the good stuff (you often see the star ingredient right at the bottom of the ingredients list). Not so with the Sunday Riley Bionic Cream. In terms of texture, I find it absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy or sticky.
As this is an active cream, I would recommend pairing it with non active serums (I usually layer a hyaluronic acid serum underneath and then a few dabs of some jelly-ish emulsion like Tatcha’s Luminous Memory Serum Concentrate for extra moisture before finishing with the Bionic Cream.) To those of you who are Good Genes fans, I personally think it’s a waste to use this on top of Good Genes. Since Good Genes is a lactic acid treatment and will be exfoliating your skin underneath, it’s a bit pointless to slather a fancy moisturiser with lots of other actives on top of it. (On Good Genes days, I normally just go with a basic non active moisturiser).
As for whether Bionic is a day or nighttime product (the instructions say both), I personally don’t use it during the day because it contains retinol derived ingredients as well as other sun sensitisers. Best to use this at night!
Moving on to packaging, as usual with Sunday Riley products, the packaging of the Bionic Cream is absolutely on point. I love the fact that it comes in a pump dispenser with an open/lock mechanism instead of the usual jar. With a cream as expensive as this and with such an awesome list of ingredients, you really want the product to be exposed to as little air as possible so that the ingredients don’t degrade as quickly. I just wish Sunday Riley’s Tidal moisturiser came in the same pump packaging.
Will I rebuy this? Probably not because I am not totally blown away by it. I actually prefer the new Tidal Cream, which is cheaper, more pleasant to use and gives me more visible results. That said, I wouldn’t write Bionic off. Skin is such a personal thing (obvs) and it’s worth trying out if you have the cash to spend.

Smells like pineapple and banana custard to me – delicious! I like this moisturiser and it makes my skin look great BUT I don’t like it’s sticky texture. It does eventually seem to dry down, but still, it’s a bit disconcerting. I suspect it forms an invisible layer that gives a cosmetic tightening effect to the skin?

Really nice moisturizer, my dry skin loves it. I’d say it’s pretty emollient but at the same time it sinks in quickly. It also smells like bananas to me, hah.

They just took out the Parabens so I finally was able to buy it. The smell is kinda weird like candy, but it isn’t off putting and dissipates I should also mention it isn’t synthetic. The texture of the cream is so amazing its like a cloud it just melts into the skin. I have tried so so many and this texture is one of the best! It’s a joy to put on. In terms of skin benefits I am not 100% sure yet as I have not been using that long but so far so good! LOVE everything in her effing line!

I have aging, sensitive skin with rosacea. The salespeople at Sephora really pushed this product line, saying “they all use it and love it.” So far, all it does is make my skin feel tacky. I have tried it at night before bed and in the morning, under make-up. Regardless of when/how I use it, my skin feels sticky and I am returning it.

I’ve been using for a week now, in the evenings after Good Genes and Luna. It feels very moisturizing and my skin feels plump and soft in the morning. Love the scent.
Finally found my night cream.

This irritated my super sensitive skin, but I still gave it 3 lippies because it might work for people with less sensitive skin. I seem to have a reaction to anything with synthetic ingredients, and this stuff is full of them.

Is this a good moisturizer? Sure. Is it worth $225? No. I used the whole bottle, which took me about 4 months of daily use, before I decided to write anything just to be sure. I only used it at night and I always used at least one pump, sometimes two. One pump is more than enough for your face, but sometimes I used two for my face and neck. Anyway, it’s a pleasant smelling (citrus), thin yellow-ish liquid. It does sting a little upon application, not sure due to what exactly, but it doesn’t last long. It was moisturizing enough for my oily skin, but if you need a lot of moisture, you’re going to have to treat this like a serum and put a moisturizer on top. I really can’t say if this “rebuilds collagen, stimulates elastin production” or “reverses premature photo-aging and increases skin energy (WTF),” but I can tell you that it didn’t break me out, I woke up to clear, bright skin and it did a decent job of evening my skin tone. Overall, a good moisturizer, but I’m sure I can get similar results with something much cheaper.

Greatest moisturizer I’ve ever used. Been using this for six weeks now along with Start Over eye cream, Skin Adrenaline and Good Genes and my skin has never looked better. Provides good moisture that lasts without turning my skin into a greasy mess after a couple of hours. I put this on at 6:30 and my skin still looks great at 8:00 pm when I get home from work. With my Sunday Riley skin regimen, I can now go without foundation – just dust on Meteorites and I’m good to go.

One of my favorite products by her, the Bionic moisturizer is great. Lightweight yet packs a bunch of moisture! Not greasy, hydrates, and I swear tightens, lol. You are also to use this over your Start Over eye cream if you have dry skin. Best thing: NO SPF! So you only need this one moisturizer for day and night.
