Allergic reaction. Whether refined or unrefined, all Shea butter makes my skin super dry and start to flake and break out. It’s especially bad on my scalp. After just 3 days in my hair my scalp becomes super itchy and there are huge flakes.

Love love love it!
I had very dehydrated facial skin; it looked very red all the time, it always felt like it was being pulled when I moved my face, it was very oily, my makeup wouldn’t stay on, etc. It took me a while to figure out the problem – all the harsh cleansing and scrubbing left my skin broken. To repair my skin I stopped scrubbing and switched to another cleanser and I started with shea butter and the original Nivea creme, and it all worked wonders!
Shea butter has such a rich, heavy feeling on my skin. It feels so soothing, it really relaxes me. I really feel like the shea butter helped my skin the most. It’s now more of a combination skin, with dry cheeks and normal/oily t-zone. It finally doesn’t feel like my skin is tight and itchy all the time anymore!
I would 100% recommend this to people with dry or damaged skin, but also to any person with any kind of skin, since this is also non comedogenic. It never broke me out, like coconut oil did, for example.
My experience with shea underneath makeup is that it works okay, if you don’t use a very thick layer. Your mascara may come off a bit as it can touch your face though.
The only thing I don’t like about it is how sticky/shiny it is. But that probably has to do with the thickness of the layers I put on. It isn’t that big of a deal, really, only if you have pets like me. My cat loses an awful lot of hair and it just sticks to my face if I don’t pay attention. I also took some lippies off the packaging, since a big tub can be very unhygienic.
Overall: would definitely recommend.

If you have a serious scar that may possibly leave a mark..Then use shea butter immediately on it. I’m prone to scarring and hyperpigmentation. So trust me this works. I was heading to NYC I was wearing a mini dress some how I scraped my leg and a deep cut appeared on my front leg right under the knee mid way. It started bleeding and I stopped it with a cotton ball. I still had to go to the event but I was worried all night about the scar especially since it’s on the front of my leg. I knew it was going to leave a bad scar. So I went home and did some research about healing scars. All of my options seemed expensive like silicone sheets plus there’s no real research claiming they work at the time. So I read about shea butter and blah blah blah you can figure the rest… So I put it on faithfully under my jeans with a band-aid for 3 months yes that’s a long time ,but guess what I’m scar free it’s as if I never cut my leg just a tiny little undetectable mark.

This has really helped my skin a lot… No more ashy skin and it also brightens the skin. I use it every night

Shea butter is super rich and thick and I feel luxurious smearing it on. I largely use it on my body and especially in the winter. Shea butter is best for me to RETAIN moisture; I DO NOT use it to REPLENISH moisture, but rather lock it in.
The brand I’ve found that I like best so far is Out of Africa. The butter is thick and creamy, smells raw and nutrient rich, is a slightly darker color, and rubs in well, as opposed to some other brands I’ve tried which are too hard and take a while to rub out between my hands.

Oh did I ever want to like this! I ordered pure organic unrefined Shea butter and had high hopes for the stuff but its not for me.I am very prone to blackheads and breakouts and this gave me both.I tried in on my dry heels and while I obviously didn’t break out there I didn’t find it very moisturizing just sort of sat there and did nothing.Ditto for the lips.

At best, shea butter dries out my skin (even when used over a regular moisturizer) and lips, and at worst it contributes to eczema flare ups.
A friend of mine has lovely skin and uses shea butter regularly, so I gave it a shot in a vain attempt at replicating her results. At that point, I had only heard good things. Unfortunately, shea butter makes my lips peel like nothing else. It seems to reduce the efficacy of any lotion I apply underneath it. The two times (years apart) in my life where I have used shea butter on my skin resulted in me waking up to large eczema patches the next day. The first time I thought it may have been a coincidence, but after the second time I’m convinced I need to stay away.
I do use products with shea butter in them without any adverse reactions. I believe it is in particular the unrefined shea butter that I am sensitive to. I have heard that people with latex allergies may have sensitivities to shea butter (unrefined, in particular). I personally don’t have any sensitivity to latex though.
Overall, my skin had a very poor reaction to shea butter. I suspect these results are unusual as the majority of the people I know do love shea butter as a moisturizer.

This review is for “Out Of Africa” 100 percent raw, wildcrafted shea butter.
In my continuing quest to go natural, after years of being a die hard beauty sl/ut and product junkie, I picked up a jar of this, because I love shea products, but have only used the processed commercial ones.
Wow. What a find. Extraordinary. Used alone, I can warm it between my fingers, it’s much more supple and easy to warm than many other healthy butters, for example, coco butter. At room temp even during the winter (but my place is at 68 degrees), very easy to apply.
Been applying to my eye area, cheeks, and all over my neck and chest. My neck hasn’t looked this good in a long time.
Smells a little nasty, but the smell goes away quickly, and you want that smell. From my little bit of research, the raw shea butter has collagen building properties. Don’t get the stuff that smells good, get the stuff looks and smells a little off — that’s exactly where the magic and moisture are.
I’ve whipped up a batch of homemade body slather to go with this: coconut oil, shea butter, some L’Occitane shea butter lotion to help emulsify the whole thing, and some melted coconut butter. Everything’s organic — raw — natural but the L”Occitane, because I need to use it up.
It’s not the smoothest concoction, but OMGoodesses, talk about results. This is the first winter in several years my hands haven’t looked like parchment because of the radiator heat.
I cannot believe the money I’ve wasted on packaging and marketing during my life, when the best things are really pretty simple.
I am now a life convert. This is the way to go.
Get rid of the chemicals, feed your skin and body with healthy options, and watch the glow grow.
Highest recommendations.

I have been moisturizing my face with raw shea butter for several years (since I was 19 years old). I was certain that this would be the key to maintaining a youthful face. At the age of 33 years I have a noticeable frown line (noticeable:() running down the center of my forehead. The claims on the lid promise to keep skin firm and and prevent lines and aging, so there goes that claim. Despite the lines I continue to use it every few days in my moisturizing routine, but I have ventured out to trying other less natural products.

My favorite facial moisturizer has shea butter as a main ingredient which lead to me discovering all this propaganda online about how shea butter is such an amazing cure all for anything from scars to pimples to wrinkles–I was like sign me up!!! I ordered raw unrefined ivory shea butter off of amazon and it came in a giant sticky slab which was wrapped in a plastic bag and enclosed in a bubble envelope. Over time i have learned to use it under my eyes, on my lips, and occasionally, on the back of my hands ONLY. Don’t get me wrong, I actually really love this stuff as an eye cream but now I’m stuck with a bunch of broken dreams and a giant slab of eye cream…
On it’s own—which is the only way I use it bc I really don’t care to read any more propaganda for recipes or instructions on how to mix it–it Is INCREDIBLY occlusive and sticky! I don’t even use it as a body moisturizer (like I said it’s sticky!) because it’d get all over my clothes, and I would never in a million years suggest putting this stuff on your face! I couldn’t even use this on my face during a 6 month course of accutane. I don’t believe the people suggesting that are using straight shea butter….either that or I would guess they maybe used it for a week or two and never bothered to update about the breakouts they subsequently suffered… I mean, sure there’s ARE occasional people who are exceptions to the rule but this stuff is not exactly conducive to clear skin because while it may be good for it, it doesn’t let it breathe (the texture is similar to petroleum only stickier).
UPDATE: I raised my rating a stick bc I recently found an acceptable way (for me anyway) to use this in the shower: I keep a small chunk of it in the shower and break off a little bit of it and mash it onto my shower puff before adding olay shower soap (the liquid kind) and lathering up. It moisturizes me this way without making me feel all greasy and nasty afterwards.
Also, if you’re thinking about ordering shea butter consider getting it certified organic bc “unrefined,” all natural,” and “raw” products still contain pesticides and chemicals…I mean, personally I wish I’d just skipped this one but if you’re going to order it you might as well get the kind that hasn’t been sprayed with chemicals.
