I honestly used to love this Argan Oil because it did a great job, but I believe the name made me continue to buy it more than whether or not it was the best oil out there. I eventually decided to try an oil I bought Trader Joe’s and found it worked just as efficiently for a fraction of the price. If this doesn’t put a dent in your pocket, I say go ahead and buy it, but, if you need to save and want another oil that works just as well, the Trader Joe’s one will be a great substitute.

This product works great for me in the winter months (as I live in Canada, and the winters can be quite drying). I find this argan oili is not too oily, and has just enough sheen for my face to provide an instant glow. It absorbs well into the skin, without feeling like a layer on top of my skin and also acts as a moisturizer for me. As I get older, for me less is more. Less products allows for my skin to flourish. I find this product to cost quite a bit, but I also feel a little goes a long way. As a result, the Mini which is 15ml will last me 4 months (so I end up buying 2-3 a year). Other argan oils that I have tried are just way too thick and feel like oily productions on my face which then cause clogging of my pores.
Great product for dry skin, just on the expensive side. If you are able to wait to get it on sale (at least 20% off, take advantage of that and get the mini size, again a little goes a LONG way).

Being 100% organic, the Josie Maran Argan Oil nourishes different types of skin: dry, sensitive and normal. As I have dry skin and live in a country which makes it even drier, the nutrients in the oil are excellent for providing protection against further dryness and can speed up the healing of the skin. Once I realized how argan oil is extracted, I became an even bigger fan.
This is how argan oil is made:
I apply a few drops on my skin and gently rub it on my face and I instantly get a healthy glow. The oil really nourishes my skin as it contains loads of Vitamin E and fatty acids. Vitamin E is key to strong immunity and is also a great antioxidant. The product is not only restricted for dry skin, but it can also be used by girls with acne.

Most oils, in fact most skincare full stop breaks me out eventually, but the two times I’ve used Argan oil for extended periods it has calmed my skin down completely. Hydration is pretty good although not as potent as an actual crème moisturizer and yet it’s not oily – any Argan oil on the surface of my face has more or less vanished in half an hour or so of application. Coming from someone who used to have excessively oily skin when using this, this is quite unbelievable!
The very first time I tried it was straight after a reaction to Clinique’s DDMG many years back and by accident as I didn’t expect I could get away with using this on my face but lo and behold it was the only thing available to me at that moment that was pure, fragrance free and natural. I cautiously applied a couple of drops to my flaky forehead on a night and checked the mirror first thing in the morning. What a surprise! No bumps, no increase in flakiness and my skin felt less tight. I then thought “what the hell” and used a few more drops that morning. I did this every AM and PM. Each passing day my skin became restored more and more to its former condition – clear, flake free and breakout free. I eventually stopped using it only because my skin was ‘reset’ and I was itching to try some new products again (nothing new there!).
I have just one gripe with Josie Maran’s version and that is the price…$48 for 1.7 fl oz is very steep for Argan oil as this is all that’s in the bottle. You can get it for a third of the price at least, also cold-pressed and organic. If it had anything added I could understand but it is literally 100% Argan oil. So is the bottle at my local organic food store and it contains double the amount for less than half the price. As I do like JM’s bottle and dropper I think once I run out I’ll just refill it rather than purchase another.
Simplistic, but a good safety net product for me whenever I need to get my skin back to its normal self. Also perfect for my hair (a couple of drops) daily and on cuticles. A very versatile product.

**EDIT came back to this in the winter when my skin was very dry. Mkxed it in with my moisturizer, and somehow liked it. Have done this a few times now. Guess sometimes your skin likes things it didnt like before

This is my dessert island product ,I have many products all of them high end and I love and use them all , however if I had to choose only one in that dessert island it would be this Argan Oil , I buy it in the 6 0z. when is available , I use it alone , mixed with my moisturizer , mixed with my foundation , I use a few drops when I am bleaching my hair and on my hair , this is the Holy Grail of oils I gave a bottle to a friend of mine , she is the Facialist for Guelain and she loved it , it just melts in your skin. Is not oily at all ,you can snap your fingers right after you use it .

I’ve found that, like the earlier/other brand of argan i bought, this is lighter and soaks in better than coconut and jojoba oil. You can overdo do it, no question. The result doesn’t look quite so stringy/greasy like it does with the heavier oils, though, because it soaks in better. I’ve found that the best way to apply this is to rub a drop or two on my palms and then rake it through clean, wet hair. The oil gets distributed better like this.

This is my first night using argan oil all over my face. Despite absorbing into my hair better than other oils I was surprised at how the small dime size amount I applied to my face didn’t soak in. I checked an hour later and it was still just sitting there, so I had to buff it in lightly with a clean wascloth. Now my skin looks nice and glowy. I can’t give this a full rating as I don’t know if it will clog my pores or give any skin benefits from the EFAs (see below).
The first time I bought Glonaturals Organic (vitacost.com, around $7 years ago) and just used it on my hair so I didn’t pay attention to how it was processed.
The second time I bought the SheaMoisture brand for my hair AND skin and it went rancid (or smelled like it anyway). They have great customer service. After I provided proof/ verification, they graciously sent me a replacement and told me the expected shelf life for their brand was 2 years unopened and 1 year after opening.
I am a little confused as to how beneficial this brand’s oils are, though. In the Q&A section for their Argan oil they state that the oil is cold pressed. Yet in other answers they state that it is refined as well as deodorized. I thought cold pressed oil is by definition unrefined, and that in order to deodorize it, it must be heated? Also (suppedly) cold pressed oil is supposed to be a deep gold color but this brand is straw colored. So I’m not sure that SheaMoisture’s $8 bottle of oil is as good as more expensive unrefined brands for skin.

One of very few 100% Argan Oil products on the market.
A couple of years ago, I decided I needed to take some radical steps in an attempt to get my hair back in shape. After doing a lot of research, I realized I was the one that had caused the damage – by the products I chose, the frequency I washed, and the heat appliances I used to style it.
One of the first things I did was to line up every product I used, and read the ingredient labels. I was shocked to see that most of the leave-in products I was depending on had very similar formulae, and they all leaned heavily on silicones as their main ingredient. This is because silicones, while very damaging to the hair, are very GOOD at reducing frizziness, adding shine, and protecting the hair from damage from heat appliances. Hair care companies COULD sell one product that does all those things, but we, as consumers, tend to think a product that claims to fix a single problem is a better product than one that claims to resolve several issues in one – and hair care companies take advantage of that. The point is that while I *thought* I was using the recommended amount of four different products, in actuality I was using four times the recommended amount because each product I was using was almost identical in its formulae.
Silicones are plastics in liquid form. They coat the hair, prevent moisture from entering the hair shaft, attract dirt, and leave behind a residue that makes hair feel heavy and look greasy. Using products containing silicone on your hair means you have to wash it more frequently – which dries out your hair (washing strips your hair of its natural oils), causing more damage.
When I left behind all the products I had been using which contained silicones, I still needed something to moisturize my very dry, frizzy ends. After doing more research, I discovered two oils which actually do penetrate to the hair cortex; pure coconut oil and pure argan oil.
Shea Moisture 100% Pure Argan Oil is one of the few argan oils that do not contain any additional ingredients. I purchased mine at Ulta, when they had a “Buy 1, Get 1 at 50% Off” sale. Even if you pay full price and only buy 1 bottle, it lasts a very long time.
The trick to using any oil on your hair is to use very little – much less than you think you need. If your hair looks greasy after you use it, and you have to wash it the next day – you’ve used too much! You do not have to see it on your hair for it to be effective.
My hair is bust length, fine, but I have a lot of hair. I use three pumps of the product in the palm of one hand, rub my palms together, then “finger comb” my ends. Three pumps is roughly equal to about 1/4 teaspoon of product.
That amount absorbs into my hair very quickly, and never leaves my hair feeling (or looking) the least bit greasy or heavy.
Even when I use the product daily, I don’t need to wash my hair more than once a week, because the amount I use absorbs into the hair and doesn’t build up on the surface of the hair itself.
I purchased the Shea Moisture 100% Argan Oil in October 2016 – and have only used 1/4 of each bottle (I keep one in the bathroom and one next to my bed – in case I forget to apply it after I brush my hair in the bathroom before going to bed). So even though the bottle is small, if you don’t apply too much, it will last quite a long time.

I’ve tried lots of oils over the years, from the high end blends (Clarins, Decleor) to the low end pure oils (Desert Essence, NOW foods), and they were all serviceable at moisturizing–except for jojoba for me, which seemed to just sit on top of my skin and never sink in. Although, I thought it was good until I tried argan oil. I initially got this to use on my processed, dry, fine colored hair, but have started using on my face for the past 2 months or so. This is where my review gets significant–first of all, i only review something if a absolutely LOVE it or HATE it. And I am almost out of my .5 fl oz bottle now, which is something that has never occurred with any other oils I’ve used–I usually lose interest, or they start to smell rancid (this happened to my Clarins oils especially quickly, they must use a cheap base oil). I have been devoted to Pre de Provence soaps for the past 3 or 4 years–I even use the Camellia heart soap to wash my face, with its shea butter base, it has never dried or irritated my skin, which is pretty miraculous, considering how dry and reactive my skin is. Bottom line–this is not overpriced at all, in my opinion–1 fl oz costs $22.50 on drugstore.com–and when I reorder it, I will be getting this bigger size, as my skin drinks this up like water. I really am impressed with how much better this works than jojoba, although I know lots of people like jojoba. I mix 2 drops of lavender or neroli, depending on how freaked out my skin is that day…if it’s sprouting red patches all over the place, I hold off on the essential oils. This stuff is liquid gold, in my opinion…

I am on my fifth large bottle of this and I also give it as gifts to my family and friends. I have been using it for years, and this oil is the only thing that keeps my non-hormonal melasma under control. I stopped using it once and realized the melasma was beginning to darken again so I know with 100% certainty it is this product that helps. To be clear, it did not completely eradicate the patches, but it did lighten them significantly. I use the oil as a last step in my evening routine EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I do not miss a single evening and have a small bottle I take with me when I travel. I have very dry but very healthy skin and it absolutely drinks up moisture. I use this in my bath, on my elbows, cuticles, and wounds and blemishes. I also use it as a carrier with essential oils. This oil is a staple in my home. I actually think most of this line is great and credit it with saving my skin after a terrible reaction to retinol.

I use this semi regularly on my hair (once a month or so) and occasionally on my face and body before bed. It’s a nice all over oil that moisturizes without causing breakouts and seems to help my dry hair. Nice to have something I can use all over without worrying about my face breaking out from it. Would repurchase.
