I have really given this a fair chance. I used it over an extended period of time, and on several different types of blemishes. I initially purchased it to treat a very large, cystic type blemish that was hiding out beneath my skin on my chin. It hurt, and it just wouldn’t either go away, or come to the surface. This device mentions treating inflammation, and getting beneath the skin. It is recommended to use it three times a day. I felt that initially it did reduce the redness and pain. But even after a week, the pimple was the same. I’m a month into it now, and it’s finally smaller (but not gone). I’m sure it would have been smaller by now on its own. During that time I also tried using it on smaller, whitehead type pimples (I’ve really been going through a bad streak with my skin, not really normal for me.) I don’t believe it did anything for any of those. So I would say that the only thing it helped with was the redness and pain on the deep, cystic pimple. I wouldn’t waste your money. (It wasn’t cheap. I paid $26 for it at Walgreen’s. I also think that for the price they could give you a little plastic case to store it in.)

Been using this “funky laser pen for acne” for a couple of months — and it works for me! Now, don’t expect miracles, your pimple won’t be demolished immediately after using — for me, it diminishes some redness right away and then the pimple disappears completely (or almost completely) in about a day or so afterwards. That seems to be the pattern each time I use this product, so I think it’s safe to say it’s actually doing something. Note that this product works best if you treat a zit when it’s FIRST forming (so, when you see the FIRST traces of a pimple/bump starting to form on your face, ZAP IT to stop it in it’s tracks). Also note that this is more for bacterial/inflamatory/standard pimples as opposed to cystic ones (it may do a BIT for cystic acne, but it’s main focus is killing bacteria). The reason I took a lippy off is because it’s VERY time consuming: you can only treat one pimple at a time, and at 2 minutes each, it adds up. On top of that, you have to wait for the battery to recharge itself for a bit between each single treatment (ie. you can’t continuously treat one pimple right after another to your heart’s content, thus wasting even MORE time). Speaking of batteries, the battery drains VERY quickly, so you will be going through batteries like no tomorrow. Thankfully, you CAN change the battery in this thing (it uses standard AAA batteries), BUT, I found the cap EXTREMELY hard to remove (you’ll need a tiny screwdriver and A LOT of strength — had to get the boyfriend to do it for me EVERY TIME!). I would also like to see this product allow you to begin and stop treatments when you want to — as is, once you press the button, a self-timed 2-minute treatment starts and you CANNOT turn it off or pause it. But other than that, this is a very handy tool to have to complement your usual skincare routine.

I tried using this on smaller bumps that turned out to be large, cystic acne. It didn’t help at all. If anything, it may have irritated my skin. This wasn’t the cause of the bumps, but seeing them get nothing but much bigger after using this was not exactly what I expected to happen. I also tried using this on a smaller blemish and didn’t really see a difference. I haven’t tried this on a whitehead yet, but I will see if I can return it, as my benzoyl peroxide works just fine on those little whiteheads anyway. I’m generally a fan of Neutrogena products, but I wasn’t impressed with this particular one.
