Found the Revlon Cleanse and Brighten konjac sponge at TJMaxx and decided to give it a whirl. Comes in a reusable clear vinyl resealable pouch for travel. I got the plain white one (as I recall there was a dark grey charcoal variant also available), which has an overall teardrop shape, is flat on one side, domed on the other, and has a string loop for hanging. I’ll admit I was skeptical of the flimsy string loop but it’s held up fine. There’s also the comfort of knowing this is compostable when I have to replace it.
The sponge is very hard when fully dry, like a loofah, so I was very pleasantly surprised how much it softened with warm water. It also swelled when wet, about as much as a regular kitchen sponge from bone dry to fully wet. The wet konjac sponge feels soft and slippery, not grippy like a cellulose sponge or silicone scrubber. But, it is still easy to hold since it compresses, you know, like a sponge does. Working with it on my face it feels super gentle; the fibers feel so slippery it seems more like a buffer than a scrubber or exfoliator. It’s gentle enough to use on my eyelids as well – there’s no scratching or tugging. So how do I know it’s doing anything at all? My skin was stressed recently and started to develop dry patches that were too sensitive for a rough cotton washcloth. I worked the sponge in circles over the dry flaky patch on the bridge of my nose, which had started to crack and peel, and it didn’t irritate the skin at all. In two days the dry flaky patch was gone, the crack healed, and the redness nearly indiscernible.
To remove makeup and clean my face, I typically use a cleansing oil then rinse with warm water, and then exfoliate. Formerly, I exfoliated with a face scrub, then I switched to a cotton washcloth, but now I use a konjac sponge. I use it only with warm water usually, but sometimes with soap suds added if needed, then rinse and squeeze before hanging up to dry. The effects are subtle, and not immediately dramatic, but I feel the texture of my skin has improved since I switched to the konjac.
Great for the face. For the rest of my body, though, I still need heavy-duty bath poufs and scrubbers. 😉

Honestly I don’t see what the hype is all about. It works as well as any other sponge for me, not more and not less. I got mine (a black charcoal one) at Dollar Tree so it was dirt cheap. Is that why it didn’t thrill me? I don’t know. When it’s dry, it’s hard and scratchy, but when it’s wet it becomes soft and smooth, so it doesn’t even exfoliate. I saw a Revlon one that looked identical to mine for $5.99. I definitely would not pay that much. I prefer my Buff Puff way more.

i cant say enough good things about this little thing! i got a charcoal one…. tear shaped with a string. since using it i stopped getting rashes on my face. also, no more blackheads and pores look smaller and skin much smoother and translucent. it just really gets off all your makeup without any injury or irritation. when i use it i wash once with my hands using cleanser. then i wash a second time with the sponge and cleanser. if i dont use it i really notice a diff after a couple of days. this is a very mild cleansing tool you can use every day. make sure you hang up to dry.

I’ve recently bought another one as a foundation applicator and wow! It is way better then any other traditional sponge! My real techniques sponge has been getting moldy, no matter how little I dampen it and clean/ dry it. With a damp one of these, i end up with a nice fresh dewy application!

I got mine for 2,49€ from a drugstore brand “For your beauty”. They sell the following colors:
– white (for all skintypes)
– black (for combination/oily skin)
– rose (sensitive/dry/mature skin)
I mainly use the black konjac sponge since I have several pimples almost each week.
Application:
I take a bowl full of warm water, put my konjac sponge in it and wait for about 3-5 minutes to let it soak with water. When it’s done I gently squeeze the excess water out of it.
I massage my makeup-free face with it a couple of times.
Then I clean the sponge with water, squeeze the excess water gently out of it and dry it with a clean towel or paper towel. I wash my face afterwards with warm water, pat it dry, then apply my moisturizer.
Results: My face feels smooth, soft and clean. All makeup residue that I didn’t remove by accident is completely gone. The application of makeup is more flawless and it stays longer, too.
The only downside is that you have to repurchase it every other month.

I recently tried a konjac sponge. It took me a long time because I thought this was basically the same thing as those cookie-shaped cellulose sponges for the face… but those are WAY different in terms of texture. As with the cellulose sponges, you have to really wet the konjac sponge well, until it becomes really soft. I have sensitive skin that is sensitive to rubbing, so the cellulose sponges can be a bit too harsh for everyday use. If you imagine 3 levels of harshness: the harshest one is using a wet towel to wash your face, the cellulose sponge would be the mid-level, and the konjac sponge would be the softest level. A konjac sponge for me is about as soft as those silicone wash-pads with little “fingers”, except I feel that silicone sponges can be both too grippy and not exfoliating at the same time, if that makes sense. A konjac sponge doesn’t grip the skin at all – it glides very smoothly along it, but somehow it still manages to remove traces of makeup…! It’s actually so soft that I can use it under my eyes without irritating the skin. The reasons I bother using a konjac sponge instead of just my fingers are 1) it’s much easier to lather up foaming cleanser on a sponge 2) the soft texture of the sponge adapts to the contours of my face and I feel I get a better cleanse.
If you want something to exfoliate your face with, I’d say that this is NOT it. If you want a super soft and gentle sponge for your face, this is perfect! Would probably be good even for people with rosacea

I bought one on a whim from missha as the sales ladies were praising it . It was a cheap thrill at US$2, and was a fad then . It was a great buy. I have Clarisonic but this feels like it exfoliates better. It’s also Super fun to see the cute sponge expand / turn soft and spongy from a hard flat mass. My blackheads were lesser with regular use . But I feel it’s a little unhygienic and a little cumbersome to dry it .

I did like soft the sponge is and I loved using it in the morning. however after two weeks I noted a dark spot in the middle of the sponge and the sponge started to break up around that dark spot. I always made sure to hang the sponge after use so I don’t think it’s mold, I’m still not sure what the dark spot is and I don’t want to use it on my face anymore.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this sponge! I hope they NEVER discontinue this! I am so impressed with this that I will never use another sponge, brush or cloth with my face cleanser again! This sponge is super soft and gentle on the skin, rinses clean and although it hardens when it dries, it becomes fat and plump when you soak it in water again. There is no odour even after using this for months. I have replaced it more often, simply because I’m not sure it’s okay to keep for an extended period of time but there is never even a hint of odour or mould, etc. For those who want a “scrubbing” sensation when cleansing their skin you probably won’t like this. I’ve never tried a clairsonic but imagine it is the opposite end of the spectrum from this sponge. For me, gentle is the way to go. I’ve battled acne and redness in past, have oily/combination skin now, but have discovered over time that being kind to my skin has paid off as it’s super smooth and clear now.

I am SO GLAD I stumbled across the previous review because I was totally unaware of this sponge. I’ve been using and loving the Boscia konjac sponges for a couple of years now. They cost $19 CDN. The Quo sponge is $5, and there is absolutely no difference in the way they perform. The Quo one is flatter – more like a pancake than a sphere cut in half but I actually prefer the flatter shape. I am so delighted to have this much cheaper alternative to the Boscia sponge and won’t be buying the pricier option again.

I found this at Walmart and it was on clearance, so I decided to try it out. The sponge goes from super firm to really soft when saturated with water. I liked how it felt on my face, and it made my pores look nice. The only negative with this product is how long it lasts. Even if you wash it after every use, it still gets pretty nasty after a while. It said that you could use it for 3 months, but mine lasted about a month. I really like it, but I just wish it lasted longer.

I have blemish prone & hyper sensitive skin. It’s so oily even in the dead of an Alaskan winter. I have used this on/off for a few years now but have never found the charcoal one in stock anywhere. I’ve always used the original white sponge. It feels so smooth on the skin & helps my Alba Botanica Deep Pore Wash that is free of sulfates foam up tremendously. This makes my skin way less oily than just cleansing with my hands which reduced the amount of black & whiteheads I get during the day or night. Since the texture of this sponge is so soft it doesn’t leave my skin red or irritated, in fact it seems to soothe my skin as if my face is getting a gentle massage each time I use it. Never be without it now.

Actually purifies clogged pores gently! Love this little guy, bought it on a whim online, curious about the texture. If you’ve been relying on silicone pore cleansing brushes until now, save those for cleansing your makeup brushes, instead! This is the most gentle thing you’ll ever use on your face (including eyelids) and even the most sensitive of skins will appreciate how it feels.
It arrives hard, almost like a super-light pumice-stone but it rehydrates immediately, expands and becomes as soft as a sea sponge, but way smoother, with a cooling sensation, almost jelly-like.
Konjac is said to be alkaline, it promises to break down acidic oil residue easily. It holds ten times more water than it weighs, so it is said konjac sponge will never actually come in direct contact with your skin, thus making it gentle enough for your eyes. Originally it was used in baby care, so if it’s good for a baby, it’s gotta be great for the mommy.
I’m obsessed with this egg-shaped hard worker, as it is by far the most gentle and effective exfoliator my hypersensitive skin has ever experienced.
I use it on my entire face, including lips and eyelids, and in 3 weeks of use I noticed that enlarged and clogged pores near my nose vanished entirely, while the overall appearance of pores reduced significantly. It creates rich lather with the tiniest bit of cleanser and I also need less moisturiser as a result of using this tool.
One con: it’s $10 you have to fork out every month or two, as this little guy wears out.
Reuse: bury it at the bottom of a moisture loving plant if you’re a forgetful gardener.

I have the darker deep cleaning one. The lighter one is for sensitive skin and while I do have sensitive skin, I took a chance with the other one. I’m always leary about scrubbing my face because it doesn’t take much for my face to become inflamed and irritated and even using sensitive scrubs have broken me out in tiny bumps. This sponge is super hard in the packaging but softens up once you wet it and becomes about as squishy as a beauty blender and similar in shape and size. The texture of the sponge is odd. Feels almost plastic. I remove my eye makeup with some Vaseline and scrub my face with the sponge to take my foundation off. I can comfortably apply quite a bit of pressure without irritating my skin. I just run it along my bar soap to create a little lather. I’ve used my clarisonic right after this sponge and noticed the brush head looks clean so it is extremely effective in removing makeup. This is also great for a quick wash right when I wake up before putting on my makeup without needing to get suds and splash water all over the place. I hate getting water all over my sink from repeatingly rinsing soap off my face. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn against me any time soon because it’s so convenient, gentle, and affordable. I paid under $6 at Walmart.

This thing is great! I’m not to happy with the price point though. This feels so nice on your skin and doesn’t feel rough like other products I’ve tried like this. Though I will say the first one I bought was defective. If you are on the fence about it I would just get it. This is a hg product!

I bought this sponge to thoroughly cleanse my face when I travel. I travel a lot in Europe and many hotels do not provide face cloths. Good points: it is contoured to fit in your hand and it feels nice on the skin. What I don’t like it that it doesn’t remove all my eye make up easily. It also takes some time to dry so when I am traveling I need to pack it in a plastic bag. You can hang it from an attached string to dry. It dries very hard.
I don’t think it cleans any better than a face cloth and maybe not as well. I rate it as average.

I love this product! I used to use a much harsher exfoliating pad for my face, and it just felt like too much. But this is so gentle. I love how it hardens and then gets soft when it’s wet. I’ve found that it works the best after I wash my face. So I wash all the face wash off and then use this on my bare skin (usually in the shower so my skin is nice and soft already)…this makes it extra soft and smooth and helps my make up go on really well!

Decided to try a White Konjac sponge by Etude house after hearing many amazing reviews about Konjac sponges in general and I have to say I.am.in.love!!! Makes my face feel super soft and smoother than any cleanser I’ve used!! I normally use the Hado Labo Gokujyun Foaming Cleanser and this puff alone makes my face feel cleaner and smoother feeling than the cleanser does! I use it on it’s own in the mornings before my beauty routine and then with the added Hada Labo Cleanser in the evenings and it lathers up beautifully.
To use, I run it under hot water then warm water (and sometimes add my Hada Labo cleanser) and rub it in circular motions on my face focusing more on my T-zone. After use I let it dry and it gets a bit hard on the outside but becomes puffy again when you run it under hot water. Make sure to squeeze it and fill it up with fresh water and squeeze again to clean it out and some other sites recommend running it through boiling water every week to disinfect it 🙂
Maybe I’m going crazy but it’s actually helped heal some acne/ skin irritation after using Nair facial cream and like honestly nothing has ever helped even the myriad of exfoliators, or facial creams I’ve been using the past week.
It’s all natural and very gentle, the one I purchased came pre-puffed and could be used straight out of the bag (my only concern is if the extras I bought will last until I’m ready to use them without molding but here’s hoping). These puffs are very cheap and easy to obtain (Shoppers sells a Quo brand one for less than 5 dollars) and the results are so worth it. Planning on gifting some to friends so I can spread the joy :’) Definitely recommend!!

I love my konjac sponge. I bought a green one off of eBay from a Japanese retailer and was not expecting much, if anything, to happen. I used it once and my face felt so soft and smooth! I put my usual Clean and Clear liquid cleanser on my face, wet the sponge, and scrubbed it in. I realize now I only need to use half the amount of cleanser that I use when cleaning my face with a cotton ball. It sudsed up great and rinsed easily too. Noticed my face was super exfoliated but not irritated or dried out. I have normal to dry skin so dryness/irritation is sometimes an issue. But it felt great, and my face oil sank right in afterwards too. I bought a black and a red one and can’t wait to try them next.
Only downside is it did not remove my eye makeup very well, which it probably isn’t made to do anyway. It also took almost a full day to dry out, while hanging on the mirror over the sink next to an open window.

This little guy has made my skin so smooth and clean without harsh rubbing. I did a test to see which cleansing tool can remove the most makeup. i tested the sponge, shiseido cleansing brush, or hands. The result was a a tie between shiseido brush and sponge in removing same amount of foundation with same # of strokes, but the sponge was more gentle. Using hands took the most time and effort. So i would recommend this for daily exfoliation for those with bumpy skin, because with fewer strokes i can get more makeup off.
