This mask is fine. It is VERY drying, and I can’t imagine using it as an overnight spot treatment. My dry and temperamental skin can handle small amounts in fifteen minute increments, but I am really only doing that because the product was expensive and I’d like to use it up. Unlike other reviewers, I’ve been fortunate and haven’t experienced any chemical burns/scaling, however if I’d seen those reviews before I bought this mask, I don’t think I would have gone through with the purchase.
The sulfur smell is obviously there, but I don’t really mind it, to be honest. I expected it, and that makes it easier to deal with than surprise scents, to me. Like her UFO oil, it is a kind of shocking green, that I’m not sure is a naturally derived color, but it looks fun on. It definitely starts to tingle pretty much immediately after application, and I’d strongly suggest not using this as an all over mask. I use it as a quick spot treatment, or occasionally slather it (in a thin layer) over my forehead/nose/chin in an attempt to bring my T-zone back under control. My reason for the two lippies is that I have never had any amazing results. Yes, I think it does a decent job drying out small zits (don’t bother with anything cystic or that isn’t at a head), and I think does some good with blackheads. But a basic and cheap mud mask can do the same thing for way less money. It is an aesthetically pleasing product from an “it” brand, and I think that is where a lot of the hype comes from.
In all honesty, I don’t see any reason to go out of your way to purchase this. Yes, it does the bare minimum of what masks should do, and I haven’t had any serious reactions. But for the price, it should be making a noticeable difference. I’m still not 100% convinced that the results I’ve seen over my sporadic use over the past 6 or so months have been more than a placebo.
Basic take away: strong sulfur smell and bright green, I wouldn’t recommend it for an all over treatment. Very drying, and no amazing impact on acne/blackheads/skin texture, but no extremely adverse effects either. I think this is one product that looks beautiful in my medicine cabinet, but that’s about it. I’ll use it up, but even then never on serious skin issues (I have better products that I trust more for that).

It’s an effective product, have to agree with the other review: don’t use it all over your face, and also DO NOT spot treat and sleep with it (the instructions say you can do this but I woke up with chemical burns that looked like chicken pox). Regardless of this incident i feel like it truly works at calming my skin and taking away some of the redness.
-Use it sporadically when you get some breakouts but not a lot of times in the week because it can be drying.

Just goes to show you everyone is different! I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!! I usually see the benefit about two days after the mask – nothing instantaneous. Yes – it stinks but it’s manageable. . I use a very thin layer and keep it on for about 15 minutes. It washes off easy and the first thing I noticed is how soft my skin felt. I didn’t notice anything right away, and that the next day. But by day 3…..my skin was in a lot better condition than it was before the mask. I use this once a week along with a GlamGlow mask and I absolutely love my skin. I have used this as a spot treatment as well with no burn. My skin is a little red after the mask, but look what you are putting on your skin….it’s potent, as all of Sunday Riley’s products are. If you are nervous and still want to try it, I suggest putting a thick layer of a moisturizer on first before the mask….before going fully bare with it. I am on my second tube of this….

Meeeeehhhh. Don’t put this all over your face, even if your skin is oily; it will suck the hydration right out of your face. Think scale city the day after. It has been decently good as a spot treatment for bumps, so I will keep it, but when it’s done I will probably only buy it in the Space Race set if I need both the Martian and my beloved UFO oil.

I also was interested in trying this mask after reading ALL of the amazing Sephora reviews. I tried to use it as a spot treatment overnight and am now dealing with awful chemical burn patches everywhere I used this mask. VERY UPSETTING! Now treating with aquaphor (on day 2 and still no repair), and promptly returning this product!
Update: burn patches have now turned into raised patches of breakout-like bumps. Beyond disappointed and also grossed out. V thankful this wasn’t applied to my entire face.

I bought Saturn a few weeks after it came out. I was trying to read reviews to see what people thought before mine arrived and there were a ton of 5 star reviews. I saw 3 1 star reviews come up
and they all said the same thing, chemical burns. I had already purchased it so I thought maybe if I didn’t sleep in it things would be okay. Well, they weren’t. This mask turned me bright red and raw almost immediately and then next day painful red patches. It gets worse though. Scared to use it again and then a week later painful pimples. This mask screwed my face up. I’m furious. I went back to Sephora to share my experience. Well, the bad reviews were actually deleted!!! Then mine was removed too! I can’t believe Sephora would knowingly remove reviews that warned their customers about something as severe as a chemical burn. So then I googled to see if anyone else had the same experience and I found this Reddit feed talking about all of the 1 star reviews that has been taken down on this product! A ton of them. I’m not alone. Don’t believe the Sephora reviews on this mask. I’m guessing based on my experience that the brand pays people for the five star reviews. It’s a terrible product. In my opinion, the Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask should only be used as a last resort if all other acne treatments have not been effective. Sulfur is a very strong ingredient that can do wonders for acne but can also be a tough skin irritant. I really like that Sunday Riley has included several skin soothing ingredients to combat the dryness that sulfur can cause. I wish they hadn’t included denatured alcohol, but thankfully that is near the end of the ingredient list. My more detailed review is on the link below.
