‘The natural alternative to botox’ – used and endorsed by UK celebs & even royalty – need I say more?! I first spotted Deborah Mitchell’s ‘Heaven’ brand at a London beauty expo. Literally unmissable – one of the biggest and most colorful/enticing displays from many hundreds of well known brands exhibiting there. Silver Bee Venom mask was on special offer and with a few trial sizes thrown in complimentary (which I’ll review later) I finally gave in and handed over my card. Wasn’t until I got back to the states that I opened and tried this…
The mask comes in a beautiful acrylic jar, is lightly scented (via essential oils) and has the texture of a thick night cream. There are various ways you can apply – as a mask or even leaving on overnight. I opted to use it as a mask initially and then started to use overnight. It pretty much sinks in and you don’t have to use a huge amount. But did it freeze those 11’s or crows feet as promised…
…the answer is nope. As a mask it hydrated well and gave a slight glow to my skin, but the claim of bee venom working in a similar way to botox is far fetched to say the least. For reference I have had botox done in the past and can easily tell the difference. And besides, botox is injected for a reason – it has to paralyze the muscles. If botox – a toxin much stronger than the ‘Abeetoxin’ used in Heaven masks has to be injected to work rather than rubbed over the area, then how can something weaker and not injected do the same thing? Something applied on the surface of the skin can only improve the appearance or texture of the skin at best, it cannot work on underlying muscles, at least not to my knowledge (frownies being an exception).
Nevertheless I’m glad I finally got to give this a try after reading all the hype. Admittedly I did purchase with a healthy amount of skepticism so I wasn’t overly surprised at what it could (and couldn’t) achieve. Very surprised it hasn’t been reviewed on MUA before. Having used up the whole jar of mask I can safely conclude that I wouldn’t repurchase this.
