My 50-year old, dehydrated but otherwise normal skin LOVES this. And my packaging does not say it’s a leave-on, but rather a rinse-off. I put a somewhat generous layer of this on, leave for 20-30 minutes & wipe off with a warm, damp flannel. My skin is so firm you could bounce a quarter off it after. I love it. Clearly I have the type of skin – dehydrated but not dry, who loves it.

Generally I like Aesop’s products and find them high quality but this particular product, excuse the bluntness, is completely pointless. Its sold as a hydrating masque but its not really a masque (nor is it that hydrating), you put it on and it kind of vanishes after a while and you are supposed to wipe the excess off and leave rest of it on. To my experience it does absolutely nothing and it does not fit into any point of a normal routine so for me, this is a complete waste of time and money. Sorry Aesop, you have many nice products and whereas this one is not harmul its just, well, pointless. I’d like to have a better idea on what purpose this was developed for as it simply doesn’t make sense as a product.

I got a few samples of this mask, but the first one really flared up my mild rosacea so it wasn’t a success for me. The tingling feeling when I applied it should have tipped me off! I also don’t really think it moisturised the other areas of my face.

This ‘mask’ is really expensive and tricky to use. You are supposed to keep it on your face for up to thirty minutes but by the 8th minute it all sinks in into my skin without any trace of hydration, leaving a tacky layer.It has a very faint smell of something herbal but it was not bothering me nor it was unpleasant.
In my opinion, it would be best to use it as a layer of hydration underneath a more hydrating cream on top – after all the niacinamide is quite high up there in the ingredients list so it is worth persisting if you got a full bottle of this. However you can find niacinamide high up in the ingredients lists of certain Olay products (their Regenerist line I think?) which are not as expensive.

This is a leave in mask that comes out like a white cream and applies clear on your face. It quickly cools your skin and applies very easily across your face with just the right viscosity. After about 15 minutes, it dries out and sinks into your skin. What I didn’t like is the tackiness of the texture once the mask dries on your skin. You really can’t just leave this in your skin like a sleep mask, you have to wash it out or it just feels a bit icky. I don’t think I would try this again.

I don’t have dry skin and its summer where I am, and I don’t find this moisturising enough. Its also too tacky and after 10min, it needs to be washed off before it starts to seriously evaporate where it left my skin very dry. I don’t think this is particularly great. Any Korean mask around the $10 mark will do a better job however if you the same to spend, the Dermalogica Multivitamin power firm mask is the best I have used to date. Its truly hydrating, fully absorbs and is nourishing. I love Aesops clay based masks but just not this one. They are really great with giving out samples so get 4 or so to try over 2 weeks before you buy. The texture is a gel-cream, glides nicely and dries down quickly. I felt more moisture evaporated than it gave to my skin, which is counterintuitive to the purpose of a hydrating mask. If you are after something drugstore level, I particularly like Avene’s hydrating mask (better than Vichy or LRP).
