This 2-step mascara is great for thin, puny “Asian lashes” that point straight down. The best way to use this is:
1. Curl your lashes
2. Use step 1 primer to coat your lashes quickly (I do not redip between each eye)
3. WITHOUT waiting to dry, use step 2 to coat primed lashes with mascara (again, I do not redip the mascara wand between each eye). You will get longer, fuller lashes in a pretty easy and quick way. If you let the primer dry, it will be harder to coat every bit of it with the mascara. Right now, most of the earlier reviews are complaining about this. You won’t have to deal with this issue if you immediately use step 2 after the primer step 1. Make sure you coat your primed lashes with mascara from below your lashes as well as from above, to coat everything. If you find too much mascara gets applied when you coat from above your lashes (where you place wand on lashes from above and pull through while flicking up), you can easily use a spoolie to comb through just once and any clumps will be gone.
Pros:
– dramatic look, with longer and more full lashes
– curved mascara wand easily applies mascara and helps lift lashes
– mascara formula is volumizing and lengthening
– both primer and mascara are waterproof. MOST other lash primers available (except for Korean ones like Dr. Fixer) list water as its first ingredient and will most likely make your lashes droop. Dior, Lancome, tarte, etc., lash primers ALL make my lashes droop down.
– waterproof formula is easier to remove than waterproof formulas of Covergirl Lashblast mascaras (such as Supersizer), Maybelline Lash Sensational and L’Oreal Lash Paradise. These three mascaras make me lose lashes when I remove the mascara as gently as possible using oil-based waterproof eyemakeup remover (Garnier Micellar for Waterproof makeup, Lancome Bifacil, etc.)
– black and silver packaging is sophisticated and elegant, unlike most drugstore mascaras which are embarrassingly juvenile and gaudy with neon pinks and greens and teals and ugh
– mascara can be used alone for quick bigger lashes, very bold and black lashes
– no smudging even on my very oily eyelids
– no running or flaking
– holds curl
Cons:
– priced a bit higher than other drugstore mascaras, but price is still under $10 if you go to Bed Bath & Beyond or Target, and try to combine with coupons to pay $7 or $8
– it might take slightly longer to apply because it is a 2-step product; if you just use the mascara without the lash primer though, it will be just as fast as regular.

I have naturally long eyelashes and wanted to try something new. Definitely feels light and doesn’t itch my eyes. If you’re looking for a great mascara for a decent price, this is it. Makes my lashes look Disney princess long and the compliments roll in all day.

I like this mascara, I think it is expensive for a ds mascara though.
I like that there is a primer, I feel that that extra step really helps go separate the lashes, and also helps to easily remove at the end of the day. it is a bit tough to fully coat the primer with mascara so that the white disappears. I like that the brush on mascara side is slightly curved, I find that that helps to prevent clumping.
this mascara wears all day on my lashes, which is pretty impressive because I have oily eyelids.

So I bought this mascara because I was having trouble finding L’oreal’s beauty tubes mascara which is my go to mascara for weddings. I purchased this and ended up finding beauty tubes after so I can compare both now. I actually like this one better! This mascara is a primer/masacara combo. You apply the primer first and then cover the white primer with the mascara. It gives my short lashes a ton of length (it is lacking in volume which is why I didn’t give a 5 rating), doesn’t flake or smear and I have real issues with mascara smearing. This is definitely waterproof. I needed an eyemakeup remover to get it off, I use clinique. It holds a curl fairly well too considering I have very straight lashes. This has replaced beauty tubes for me. Would repurchase.
Oh and the shade I bought was Blackest Black

I see the regular version of this mascara didn’t get the greatest reviews either.
Thought I would try it. Bought it at Wal-Mart for $12.00 CDN. I like the way the product is set up with each brush on either end. That was probably the only thing I liked though.
The primer went on quite easily and quickly but when you’re applying the mascara it seems to take forever to cover the white of the primer. It took me about 10 minutes to apply this mascara and then when I was done it was quite clumpy. There was a bit of a spiderly look but the length of my lashes (with the primer and mascara on) did not make up for this look. I think I will stick with my higher end primer and mascara products. I haven’t found a regular drugstore brand that I really like. I knew I was taking a chance, but for the money I spent I was expecting something much better than what I got.

I am always very impressed by L’Oreal mascaras, and Voluminous Carbon Black is usually my go-to. As far as this mascara goes, I love the concept, the idea of an eyelash primer, etc. However, the fibres on the mascara end have crazy fallout, they even got stuck all over my false eyelashes and I had to spend 10 minutes picking them all off of my lash band. The results, overall, are somewhat fantastic when it comes to lengthening+thickening, but can be achieved with almost any other L’Oreal mascara without fibrous fallout. Considering I can get a different L’Oreal mascara that I love for less money than this one, I wouldn’t buy this again.

Ok this is a good mascara. I think this mascara is meant to be comparable to a high end mascara. I do not use high end mascaras because for me I cannot rationalize spending over $20 or even over $30 for a mascara. Now with that being said I love this mascara. I think this is more of an event mascara when you want more of a dramatic look. I love the packaging and I would advise to take your time with this mascara . It will not take you 10 minutes but don’t just flop it on in a rush . It is a two step mascara . The first step is a primer and the second step is the mascara . This mascara primer separates the lashes and thickens them the primer is white so do not use too much. The next step is the mascara. The brush has a slight curve to it that in my opinion works well with your lashes. You can curl your lashes or you can use the brush to push up your lashes a little. This mascara gives you volume and length and you can go crazy layering it on. I have not noticed it clump it you take the time applying it . Also I think sometimes women have unrealistic expectations with mascara it is only going to give a temporary illusion to thicken your lashes at the time you are wearing it. When I wash my face with the apricot scrub from St. Ives it is easier to remove the mascara. I think it can be worn everyday but can also be worn for an event for that dramatic look if you apply it slowly , take your time and comb it also with a lash comb . I think it is a great mascara to have in your mascara collection. I am wearing it today it lasts all day and does not flake and does not irritate my eyes at all. It is around $10.00 but again for this kind of mascara I think it is well worth it. I always buy the waterproof blackest black. I would recommend giving it try if you are looking for an event mascara available in the drugstore.

This mascara is very “meh” for me. It’s not very black, doesn’t do very much in terms of length or volume. Doesn’t flake throughout the day, which is nice. i’m not going to say it’s completely horrid, but after I use it up, I will not be repurchasing.
