I use this on the days I don’t have time to apply eyeshadow and liner. I have slightly deep-set, dark brown eyes, therefore the blue-tinged lashes create the effect of a shadow liner! To ensure that the blue really comes through on my black lashes, I coat them with the L’Oreal lash primer beforehand since it’s white and adds volume. I then follow with the blue mascara.
My one quip about this product is that I don’t find the formula to be as volumizing as the original carbon black (nor, obviously, Lash Paradise) but paired with the primer, it does a good enough job.

My much-loved — at least since the painful, inexplicable discontinuation of “Lash Out” Voluminous, with, what is, _for me_, just the right hit of blue to bring out my eyes a bit more and to add a bit of interest for those who might happen to spot it close up — I’m more of a “go big on the red lipstick” person than an eye makeup one.
ZERO complaints about the formula. I have tried it over the same-brand primer with success — try this if you have bought it, wish it was brighter, and wish to salvage it, as the primer is white. (Or, if it is too blue, try it as a final coat over black…)
It’s fairly subdued, and surprisingly conservative with minimal eye make-up (neutral shadow, highlighter in corners, brow mascara sometimes, and, usually, that’s it), especially under glasses (and highly recommended for those of us behind lenses whose eye make-up could benefit from levelling up in intensity while remaining suitable for relatively conservative/daytime environments.
You _will_ be disappointed, I think, if you wanted full-on totally bright cobalt lashes — or if you wanted only the most subtle flash of blue in the light. But it does a very good job of occupying the space in between!
A+, will repurchase. Also: easy application, no clumps, and, easy removal — but no flaking; it wears perfectly.

This is much better than the NYX blue mascara, which although it’s also a nice blue shade like this,it gives zero volume and length but L’Oreal Voluminous does!

Review on the (cobalt) BLUE mascara. It performs pretty much as I described the black, but w/ the bonus of being electric blue! It’s a good colour for the summer played well w/ golds, corals and natural eye makeup ( although I think it prob would play exceptionally well w/ purple, lilac and blue eyeshadows). You do need to add lots of coats to get a good colour payoff or it just looks faint w/ just a few layers. I have done a couple coats w/ a good black mascara as a base and then add few+ coats of the blue and it looks pretty good (never did try it w/ a mascara Primer …hmm). This is prob the best brightest blue mascara, being accessible. The colour is most intense in outdoor lighting, so defin not a night time mascara, if you want to get the full pop. I’m prob not gonna repurchase, as it served me well this summer… if it’s still around or comes out next summer I just might think about it…

I just purchased my second tube of this. It’s a beautiful, striking cobalt blue that really brightens and enhances my blue-green eyes. The formula is very lengthening and thickening, and I like the big brush.

Apparently I am the lone dissenter here, but I hated this stuff. The formula is nothing like the regular voluminous, which is my HG drugstore mascara. This stuff is…. thin? Not really sure how to describe it – it’s like it doesn’t want to deposit on your lashes, and once there, it makes your lashes somehow thin and clumpy at the same time. I disliked this enough to toss it after several attempts to use it over a few weeks – sometimes letting a thin mascara sit for a bit will thicken it up and it’ll apply better and do more for your lashes. Newp – didn’t do a thing for this product.
Then there’s the color. If this is cobalt blue, I’ll eat my damn hat and yours. This is more like a darkish lavender shade. It ain’t cobalt, not by a long stretch!
Very disappointed in this mascara – if they’d have just been able to tint the regular voluminous, I’d be all over it. As it is, this is a big ol’ pass for me. (sad trombone….)

When I was in high school I always used Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara in Royal Blue. I loved the way it made my eyes look bright and awake but then I got away from that and moved to black mascara like the majority wear. For the past year I’ve been on the hunt for a good blue mascara and have been seriously disappointed with the one’s I’ve tried so far. This L’Oreal formula is really nice, just dry enough for my liking. It doesn’t clump or smudge but unfortunately it does flake. The color is a bit intense for me, I actually prefer a more navy blue but if you use this as a second coat over an initial coat of black mascara it is really pretty. I wish it came in a curved brush but the bristles on the wand are good and apply the product evenly without clumping so I really can’t complain about that.
Until I find my perfect shade and formula of dark blue mascara I will continue to use this. It really does bring me back in time and brightens my eyes in the process. Good job L’Oreal!

I just found a replacement for the Royal Blue Great Lash mascara by Maybelline. I have used Voluminous Original mascara for years.. seen a few colors come and go- remember the Plum color or Soft Black? The packaging looks promising, no “Limited Edition” or anything, it proudly boasts “New Shade”. The tube is the color of the mascara. $5.84 USD at Walmart, it can be bought online also, but I got in the store. But I went ahead and bought a few at Walmart, just in case. This mascara behaves exactly as the black shades, buildable from just a swipe (very royal or cobalt lashes) to 3+ coats of thick volumized, or even tarantula-y ones, if that’s your thang… You can make it look more denim colored if you use the L’oreal Voluminous primer first, or if you don’t want screamin’ blue lashes you can still get some of the blue effect over your fave black mascara, without going all Smurfy. There is a matching L’oreal Silkisseme eyeliner if you wanna get all matchy-matchy, I haven’t tried it yet. This is far superior to the wimpy Maybelline Great Lash, it is comparable to the blue Diorshow high end blue mascara. If you miss your Royal Blue Great Lash, one swipe should feel and look familiar, though the brush is more plush and bigger than what you would be used to. Give it a chance, though! You could save a wand from a Great Lash and use it to dip in the tube if you are persnickety on wand size.. I am a size queen when it comes to mascara brushes, lol- so bigger is better for building them lashes, imho. It doesn’t flake as easily, and though not waterproof it removes best with an oily remover, like the one Maybelline has with the pink cap. Great color, great price, soft buildable lash coverage, a familiar blue shade many of us have missed. Thank you , L’oreal, and buh-freakin’ byeeeee stupid Maybelline. This mascara kicks ass and I love it that L’oreal saw the need where the bean counters at Maybelline dropped the ball with a fiercely loyal ( and BLUE) customer/ fan base. Neener neener. This one is waaaaaaaaaaaay better!!
