I bought this mascara because I like Essence’s mascaras. That it promises volume and curl and hold, with microstyling waxes, it got my attention. I especially want some curl because I’m usually too lazy to use a lash curler. This does bump up the curl a bit. It gives me more feathery and slightly curved lashes. No major volume in terms of making my lashes super fat or chunky, but I do like the feather effect and how I can easily use this to sort of fan my lashes out, up and to the side. It doesn’t crumble or smudge, and lasts pretty well through the day. It comes off pretty good with micellar water or even a bit of mild soap and water in the shower. Best mascara ever? No. But I like it. It is a nice go-to for when I want my lashes to look longer and more fanned out.

Its always exciting to try a new mascara, and this one was about 30 NOK, so a cheap thrill this time. I have never tried Essence mascaras before. The tube is relatively big and has a nice enough design, you can see that its not a high end one. When I opened it the first thing that hit me was that it seemed so dry! But when I put it on my lashes it really pushed my lashes upwards from the first stroke. The brush is very good, and the the mascara is very buildable. It doesnt clump at all. The result looks likes falsies! This is a very good and affordable. I was pleasantly surprised! I chose to test it without my Essence lash primer to see how it works by it self, and it did a great job. There is also no smell or smudging or flaking. Its main property is curving and defining, its not initially volume building or lenghtening in use.
Update:
I took this mascara With me on holiday. It flaked in the heat, unfortunately. And its hard to remove. It sticks to the inner parts of the lashes and dont come off. It makes them somewhat stiff, too. I have used avene eye makeup remover gel on a Cotton and Simple makeup remover wipes to try to take it away. This is too bad, cause I was first happy about this affordable mascara.

I like the mass/formula of this very much and the package is nice. But the wand ruins it! Or it would, if I didn’t have come up with the idea to use a separate wand with this, a curved rubber/plastic wand that helps the mascara to do what’s it suppose to do: lift and curve the lashes. Why would they put a soft traditional bristle wand (albeit, a curved one) on a mascara like this, when you can get so much better results with a denser wand that puts a little pressure on lashes when brushing it on and combs to prevent clumps!? Personally, I never use an eyelash curler, so I want to be able to rely on my mascara to hold the natural curve of lashes and this waxy, drier formula is great for that. It won’t weight the lashes down and gives good volume, but you just can’t see it’s full potential (if any of it) when used with the original wand!

Nothing too exciting here. It DOES at least coat my lashes and provide a bit of curl, but not as much volume as I’d like. I wouldn’t say it lasts 18 hours. The good news is it doesn’t smudge or flake on me.
For now I prefer Essence’s The False Lashes Mascara Extreme Volume & Curl over this one, because I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

this gives a quite dramatic look, BUT
it smears and smudges horribly, bits of it fall around the face at random times so you simply cannot keep your face clear from it.
and to make things eve worse, you cannot take it off.
waterproof makeup remover is helpless with it. I hate rubbing my eyes for half an hour and STILL wake up looking like a panda.
it’s a shame, I like the look.. but 🙁

Let’s start with the pros, since they’re fewer: it lasts A LOT and it’s very cheap. No really, although it says 18h hold, the first time I tried it I was at a programming marathon and got to wear it for more than 24 hours and it really lasted through without smearing, even after a short nap.
Unfortunately, probably because of this it’s also hard to take off in the evening. It barely comes off with warm water (it just turns softer, creamier and stays on the lashes) and I don’t want to spend 5 minutes rubbing my eyes every evening just to take off the mascara, so that’s one of the main reasons I won’t repurchase it.
Apart from that, I don’t really like how it makes the lashes look like: it clumps them together, probably mainly because the package leaves too much mascara on the brush, and I always have to use my fingers to take the excess product and separate my lashes, because I don’t like that “spider eyes” look. So I’ll keep looking for a better cheap mascara.

This mascara really works for me. It volumizes, lengthens, and holds a curl (admittedly, my lashes don’t give me too much grief in that department). The effect is definitely far from natural, someone even asked me last night if I had falsies on, which is cool, but not everyone is going for that. I like the brush, it is a sort of natural, curved wand. The formula is neither excessively wet nor dry, but definitely on the gloopier side. Did not smudge for me, unlike, say, Too Faced BTS, or L’Oreal Voluminous. Will def repurchase, I haven’t been able to put this down since I bought it.

The worst mascara I’ve used but maybe that’s just me because I have straight and short Asian lashes. The texture is too creamy and you can dispose too much products in one go, which makes my lashes look like spider legs. I dislike that. It makes my lashes look thick and crumps together, with bits and bits of mascara, which can be gotten rid of later on using a brush or by using a tissue to wipe the excess off before application. It looked a bit better but why bother when I have other mascaras that do a better job in seconds? I see MAYBE volume, but curl? No way. It’s heavy and creamy it weighs my lashes down, even after curling. I was looking for a mascara that does the curling on its own and this is definitely not one of them, even after the tissue and brushing I saw no curling. Please this mascara looks so unnatural and clumpy and the wand is massive it’s everywhere I can’t do my lower lashes… I tried 5 times and finally decided to throw it away since I can’t donate because it’s a used eye product. There is no regret. Glad that it’s cheap but still felt like a waste of money, because that’s how bad this is

This was not great at holding a curl ironically. It was a bit thickening and lengthening but tended to make my lashes a bit spiky looking

Initially I loved this mascara. It’s just the right consistency — neither too wet, nor too dry — and it adds length and volume. BUT, it smears and smudges horribly. I look in the mirror and find traces of it everywhere. Even after I wash my face and go to bed, I wake up and find it still smearing under my eyes.
