I personally never buy high end mascaras. Not only do all mascaras have a short shelf life once opened, (4 months) there are drugstore mascaras that work just as well or even better! I only splurge on my foundation, concealer, powder, etc. However, I saw this at Nordstrom Rack and it was being selled at a drugstore price. I got it and this is how I think:
Brush and packaging: the packaging was nice and sleek, as so with the box. Nothing was running out, so that was good. I like the brush the most. It is thin and really grabs on to your lashes, which is a big plus for me.
Formula: a bit thin, but nice to work with and it is very layer-able. The color payoff was impressive for such a thin formula. You know how some mascaras tend to run gray? Well, this didn’t. It’s black, not necessarily jet black, but it is black enough and pigmented enough to satisfy me. This is a lengthening formula. I prefer volumizing mascaras, but it’s not like I bought a mascara labeled “volumizing”, so I have no reason to complain. It is obviously not waterproof at all, but you do need a decent eye makeup remover.
Overall performance: As I put on this mascara, it looked good. Darker, longer lashes that looked natural, too. However, even in the slightest humidity, it would start to flake and smudge. It is not a waterproof mascara, so that’s kind of expected, but it’s surprisingly hard to remove. I was still a little bit disappointed. I wore this at an indoor concert with good air conditioning and it stayed put all night long. I like this and I’ll keep wearing it until I finish it up, but I will not repurchase. I still like my drugstore mascara better.
You may like it if: You are looking for a buildable, lengthening, natural looking mascara for indoor use.
You may not like it if: You are going to be outdoors often and if you want something volumizing.
I guess I sort of recommend it? I don’t know, but it is a pretty decent mascara.

packaging is kind of cheap but the mascara works well so it doesn’t matter much. A good basic mascara that coats well and doesn’t flake off during the day.

I received Stila Major Lash Mascara in a kit with some eye shadows (Seashell and Burgundy) that I purchased recently. For a high end product, it was kind of a let down. It didn’t hold a curl. The packaging looked really cheap. There are drugstore brand mascaras that perform a lot better and have packaging that is more sophisticated. I also found that the eye shadows in the kit were too sheer and faded too quickly for my liking. I won’t be repurchasing this mascara or the eye shadows in the kit.
