I have short, blonde eyelashes… if this worked at all, I’m pretty sure I would notice. I had to do about four coats to get any colour to adhere to my lashes and even then it was patchy at best. There was no added length and they were certainly not more voluminous… useless. Oh – except where it stuck to my skin, where it was dark and almost impossible to remove of course,..

It’s dry, there’s a lot of fall out from the little microfibers, it takes several passes of the wand to achieve a desired effect. It’s outrageously expensive. In spite of all this, the natural look it imparts is exactly what I’m after. I’ll keep looking for something better, but I’ll keep this on hand until I find it.

This mascara had minimal lengthening and thickening effect on me. Worse, it flaked and smudged and left me with terrible raccoon eyes. I’m not impressed.

I received a sample of this mascara and I was excited to try it because I happen to love mascaras. This one was awful:(
The wand was very large, so large I was almost scared to use it and cringed as it came nearer to my eyeball. After you get past the gigantic bristles you are faced with a formula that is almost powdery. Obviously, I will NOT be purchasing the full size.

Thank God for sample sized products. I’ve gotten to try many products because of samples and let me just say this product was one that I was tempted to purchase, before I received the sample. Greatfully i didn’t make that purchase…this is the most useless mascara I’ve ever used…and trust me…I’ve used/tried too many to list. When I read this was one of Allures favorite products, I cracked up laughing and I also wondered about their integrity. The brush is HUGE, making it difficult to get into the corners of the eyes. The formula is very dry and therefore doesn’t coat the lashes well. Then we have the fibers that because of the extremely dry formula doesn’t stick to the lashes. My contacts were irritated to the point I had to remove them and wear my glasses. There is no length, no thickening, barely any color….seriously what does this mascara do?

Yet another awful Jane Iredale product. This mascara is rubbish. This was given as a gift and hardened my lashes so bad they snapped off!!!!!!! DO NOT USE!!!!! I’ll never stop using my Dior or Lancôme mascara now.

EDIT : I’ve changed my review to say that I will indeed buy it again, because I just did! Last month I decided I needed a new black mascara after all (I had been using only JI’s dark brown in Expresso for a few months). I went out to the drugstore and bought a standard L’Oréal black mascara. Its packaging felt like a million bucks, but that’s the only good thing there was about it. I had forgotten how horrible mascaras could be, spoiled as I had been by Iredale! It was so clumpy and unnatural looking and gross ”everywhere-on-my-face” if I took a nap with it on. I tried putting it on too many times before deciding it put a damper on my beauty routine. So I shelled out for Jane Iredale’s mascara and it was a relief. Even if horrendously expensive, mascara is, with foundation and blush, the essential part of my beauty routine, so if I should shell on something, it should be this.

I’ve used this for six months and I like it. It’s nice to have a mascara in my arsenal that I’m sure will not clump, ever. I like a natural face and a clumpy mascara can ruin the no-makeup makeup look in no time. Most of the time I’m in a hurry when I put on my makeup, so I don’t have time to ”unclump” or be particularly careful. The downside is that the product goes on very thinly, and needs at least two applications to really make a noticeable effect, though that may be because I got in in the brown shade, which is more discrete than the black.
The claim that this mascara makes lashes longer is actually true. It relies on little hair-thin filaments a few millimiters in length that are in the mascara and which get ”glued” parallel to the lashes with the upward movement of the brush, thereby extending the length, especially with build-up applications.
It’s expensive for mascara, even if the ingredients are great and all natural and non-irritating. I might buy it again, but I’d happily try a less expensive natural mascara. I swear by Iredale’s pressed powder foundation, which I will keep on buying at any price, but I feel it is not as hard to find a good mascara as it is to find the perfect foundation, therefore I am less willing to spend big bucks for mascara.
I’m giving this a four out of five because the packaging ought to be much better considering the price range. I dislike the soft plastic tube, the shape of it reminds me of polysporin packaging… Yes, the product delivers, but my 10$ L’Oréal mascara packaging feels twice as luxurious, and that isn’t right.
Application tip : the texture of this mascara is hard to define, but it makes it so that it does not glide on super-well, though that’s fine because I believe that its texture has to do with how it never clumps and is buildable… anyhow I found on youtube an application tip a few weeks ago that works great with it and totally counteracts the difficulty I had with putting on a heavy coat of it. Use a piece of carton or a business card to apply it! Place an edge of the card on top of your eyelid just next to your lash line, it will hold the eyelid in place (while you use your mascara brush as usual), so you can push and pull the mascara more easily on your lashes.

This mascara lengthens and separates the lashes. The formula is a little dry but it does not clump when applying. I used the color Black Ice, which is a soft black, so it defines the lashes while not looking overdone or too obvious. It also smudges somewhat, not horribly, but enough to be annoying. The packaging is kind of novel.
This mascara does what it says (though with flaws)…however, it’s not spectacular and definitely not worth the high price tag. I can get this lash effect from several of drugstore brands at a fraction of the cost.

jane iredale do amazing lip stains and amazing powders. But the mascaras are all terrible. Not black and glossy but more of an ashy looking muted grey, very clumpy, very messy.
