Best waterproof mascara to achieve volume, separation and density. Lasts all day. Must use a waterproof capable eye makeup remover (as all waterproof makeup is harder to remove). No tearing, easily buildable. Natural eye opening results. Great price ~ SDM $4.99 – cruelty free👍

The volume boost where do I start…. Pros: cheap and somewhat waterproof
Cons: flakes all day long, it smudges all over me, and didn’t really do anything for my lashes which are naturally curly, and the smell of the mascara is awful that’s me putting it lightly. And too much products comes off the brush so you’ll spend some time cleaning that off. This is the last mascara I’ll be purchasing from essence seeing as I never a learn my lesson when it comes to their mascaras.

I was in search of a cheap, waterproof mascara and I found one that finally worked! This Essence mascara is very cheap ($3.99 / £2.50) and is in a huge tube, so you are getting a lot of product for little cost. I found this product easy to layer for volume and no clumping, although occasionally a couple of lashes may need to be combed out to avoid sticking together. This is thankfully not typical for me. The mascara is definitely waterproof and survives pretty much everything I have put it through including sleep, sweat, and tears. While it is strongly waterproof, it is easy to remove with an oil-based makeup remover. The only time I experienced any flaking was when I had worn it for more than 24 hours accidentally, and even then I only had one flake on my face. If you have straight lashes that require curling this mascara will hold your curl. While this mascara is easy to add volume with and is generally good with separating lashes, it took a little bit of extra effort to make my lashes longer. This mascara does not add significant length and requires more than one layer to do so. My only real complaint with this mascara is that the applicator is excessively large – possibly too unmanageable for some. The big applicator makes applying difficult until you learn how to use it. My initial impression of the mascara was actually negative because the wand made achieving the results I wanted more difficult. However, after playing with the mascara a few more times I have completely changed my opinion now that I am used to the applicator. If you can learn to work with the applicator I can definitely recommend this mascara!

Unfortunately this was a bust for me. I’ll break down the whys below.
Pros:
– Waterproof. So waterproof and stubborn it isn’t possible to take this all off without losing lashes, and even with an oil I have raccoon eyes the next day. It’s a bit over the top, but if you work at a pool, sweat heavily, swim a lot, or generally need something that won’t budge, this is it.
– Thickening/volumizing. It makes my unfortunate lashes look a lot (!) thicker at the root. Add a tightline and I’ve suddenly grown falsies.. sort of.
– Low cost. For a few bucks it’s worth a venture, especially if you need something waterproof.
– Amount of product. Not much more to say, the tube is big.
And now the cons:
Clumpy, clumpy, c l u m p y. With volume comes clump in this case. To use this I have to sparingly apply it to the base of my lashes and lightly brush upwards. The brush picks up so much product that one swipe juuust too heavy has me wiping product off with a spoolie trying to separate the lashes, and this brings me to my next point:
– The SIZE. The tube is big, really big. It’s bulky in my makeup case, and I can see anyone with small hands finding this a bit unwieldy. That itself wouldn’t be much of a problem because, hey, more bang for your buck right? Not quite. The brush is HUGE. Now admittedly I’m not a fan of this type of brush, but I can manage it usually.
– It smudges. Having dry skin means I need to moisturize around my eye area, and I need to set my concealer with a light hand lest I look like a crepe festival (even at 22, *sigh*). Without heavy powdering/baking, this smudges under my eyes and onto my lids. Which is funny, because come time to take it off, it won’t move. Hm.
– I can’t use it on my lower lashes. I have trouble justifying keeping a separate lower lash mascara around, but if I do it has to be waterproof/smudgeproof. The brush and clumpiness of this makes that impossible because even the lightest hand isn’t enough. Maybe I’m just not skilled enough, but I always have to go in and clean up with a q tip after trying to put this on the lower lashline. Given that it’s hard to work with on the upper lashline, this mascara doesn’t really fit (literally, or figuratively) with my needs.
All in all, a pass. Given how waterproof this is, I’d have hope for other of their mascaras. Unfortunately they have few other waterproof options which is a real bummer. I would like to try their “i love extreme crazy volume mascara” in the regular formula, since the waterproof version seems to have the exact same brush as this one…

I wanted a cheap mascara for travel, and went with this one.
I find it a bit clumpy and it does run if wet. I’m not so bothered by it I want to run out and get a new one, but will find an alternative when I run out. I’d take a pass on this one, you get what you pay for.

Worst mascara I have ever used. The brush is too large. I used it under 10 times and it dried out already. Also, very hard to remove.

Heard great things about essence’s lash princess false lash effect mascara, but so disappointed when it’s not available for sale at where I am right now.
When I was at the drugstore, this waterproof mascara was the only one left. So not wanting to leave with an empty bag, I purchased it and did not regret! I think it’s destiny.
This is absolutely comparable or even better than Heroine Make mascara. Both of them can get a little dry and both are hard to remove without using a specific remover (I always use Vaseline petroleum jelly for any kind of super waterproof mascara or eyeliner). But this is way cheaper than Heroine Make mascara, more than 1/3 of the price.
Amazed by this and wanted to buy a couple more, I went around looking and apparently it was selling so good stocks ran out.

I always buy drugstore mascaras and when i heard good things about mascaras from Essence i thought i would give it a try. The mascara does give long and thick lashes however the formula is very dry and you need quite a few layers and it’s lacking pigment. Even though it doesn’t come off with water it somehow magically disappears from my eyes after around 6 hours – very disappointing! Especially when i find waterproof mascaras to be most long lasting… I’ve seen good reviews on some of the others Essence mascaras and i will probably try another one from Essence due to the cheap price and see if i was just unlucky with this particular one. I will not recommend this mascara.

I use this mascara about 2 months and I like it. Not the best mascara, but curls stays all day long.

This was… a bust.
I bought this because I’ve loved Essence mascaras in the past and expected this to make my lashes look fluffy and thick without smudging (unlike their regular water-based formulas).
Unfortunately…
A) It made my lashes look spidery (long and thick with one coat… but spidery as hale); and
B) When I dipped the wand back in to get more product, I pulled it back out and the BRUSH POPPED OFF INSIDE THE TUBE. What kind of poor construction?! FIRST TIME USE.
That’s all I have to say. That’s never happened to me, ever. And I’ve gone through and finished literally dozens of tubes of mascara in my life.
PS. The formula was wet for me, not dry like other reviewers have said.
