For reference, I have short, sparse and very straight lashes that don’t hold a curl well. I like length, separation and definition, but the ability to hold a curl well is the most important thing I look for in a mascara.
This one does hold a curl quite well on me. It also separates nicely and adds a little length, which is why I keep buying this and other Max Factor waterproof formulas every now and then. I really should stop doing that, though, because both this and the MF Masterpiece WP, which used to be my favourite mascara for years and years, eventually break down and start to smudge quite badly on me. I have oily eyelids, the oil starts to dissolve the mascara towards the afternoon and it stings my eyes a little, too. It’s such a pity, because otherwise I enjoy this one, but it just doesn’t hold up on me.

My holy grail mascara. Tried loads of high end ones but always return to my trusty max factor. Great for holding a curl and for those with oily lids. 10/10

I have incredible oily and monolid eyelid, have tried many other mascara(all waterproof) but they all still smudge on me, clinique lash power doesn’t smudge but it’s so difficult to remove. And this one is perfect, the curl stays all day, and doesn’t smudge(ok maybe just a little bit after a few hours), the only downside is the mascara wand is very thick but it doesn’t get clumpy anyway ( make sure you remove the excess on paper before apply though ), so I can live with that. Highly recommend to someone with oily eyelid and straight eyelashes.

I had such high hopes for this mascara since it seems to be a favourite of so many people since forever, but to be quite honest I feel this was a let down for me, personally. If you don’t have oily eyelids, don’t live somewhere hot and humid, and don’t have such a peculiar eye/face shape as mine, I can totally see this mascara works out wonderfully for you. Now let me explain.
My skin is combination, and for some very unfortunate reason my eyelids just HAVE to be smack in the middle of the oil slick. My eyelids oil up like no other, without a carefully set base no eyeshadow can hold onto them, and mascara melts of at the lightest contact with that oil. I have monolids and hooded eyes, so even without mascara, my short lashes still manage to touch the skin both above and under my eyes. I also live in the subtropic, where it’s hot and humid, the weather encourage my skin to oil up even more. Add mascara to that messy mix, I always have smudges in just 3 hours after applying, both under and above my eyes. The smudges are easy to clean up with just a napkin or a Q-tip, and the mascara doesn’t completely wipe off, but it’s still really annoying. The thing that I hate most about it is it makes my lashes feel really crunchy and dry, they’re truly hardened to the touch. It helps them hold the curl, quite decently to be honest, but I feels like it dries out my eyes. It just feels really horrible. My eyes are always feel so dry and itchy when I wear it, I end up blinking, squinting and touching my eyes so often, and that makes the mascara smudges even more. I feel as if my lashes are stabbing me in the eye. It’s just very uncomfortable to wear. Lastly, removing this mascara is an absolute pain in the neck. I can’t completely clean it off my lashes, it won’t come off no matter what micellar water or even oil I use. If I wore this one the day before, I can still feel it on my eyes the next day, and sure enough I have the smudges to proof that there’s still mascara left on my eyes. Not to mention that even when I didn’t rub my lashes while I was removing it, I always end up losing a few the next day or two.
I know for a fact this product isn’t all bad though, it’s just not for me. It does give a lot of length and a very flattering fanned out effect, never flakes (I hate flaking more than smudging, because the flakes look more obvious and very hard to clean up during the day, so I’d rather have smudges), and looks really natural (the name False Lash Effect is really misleading, even on the tube it says the mascara is only supposed to give you a naturally well endowed lashes). It doesn’t give me a lot of volume, which is what I need, because my lashes are very fine and sparse, and the brush with its blunted head only makes it harder for me to reach my tiny lashes. My friend who has a lot of thick lashes on both her upper and lower lash line loves this mascara, in person it makes her eyes look like a doll, it’s pretty amazing. She keeps telling me how many compliments she gets whenever she wears it, and how her other friends keep asking her about the mascara. She has even oilier skin than me yet it doesn’t smudge on her because of her eye shapes, her lashes doesn’t touch her skin as much. Her only complain regarding this mascara is it’s hard to remove, she also can’t remove this thing off her eyes no matter what.
I suppose I just have such an unfortunate combination of circumstances. It’s still a lot better than so many other mascaras I’ve tried out in term of lasting power and how much it smudges, but I can’t stand the dryness of my eyes and lashes. I won’t be repurchase this one for sure.
P/s forget to mention, this mascara smells like burnt plastic, and the smell is pretty strong. It’s not the first time I smelled this, the CoverGirl ones and the new 2000 Calories i just crack open also have a similar smell but they’re not as intense as this one.

Absolutely love this mascara, gives me length and volume without looking clumpy. It is quite hard to remove but I use No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Oil and that removes it all easily

I’ve come back to this mascara over and over again. Always been tempted to try other brands (including the high end) but I finally realize that this one works best on my lashes. No clump, no crease, no smudge, holds curl all day long. The only downside is the bulky packaging. Other than that, this is by far the best mascara I’ve ever used.

I’ve been using this mascara for years. I prefer the waterproof version since I need a strong hold for the curl; my lashes are long but very straight and with a normal mascara the curl just doesn’t last that long.
I love the wand, it’s pretty big so it took some time to get used to using it without smudging the mascara everywhere. The short dense bristles really separate and coat each lash perfectly! You need multiple coats of this stuff if you want any clumps.
Big downside is that after some hours it does transfer to my browbone, but that’s easily fixed. ALSO you need a really strong make up remover for this mascara.

BEST MASCARA EVER! So I am asian and a common trait that I so happily have are short lashes that stick straight out. Usually when I curl my lashes and put mascara on, I loose all or most of the curl. With this mascara, my curl stays and is even enhance. I look doll-eyed and wide awake. I have had no issues with this mascara clumping or flaking. One thing to note is that it REALLY IS WATERPROOF. I have trouble even getting it off after wearing all day. You will need an industrial eye-makeup remover or else you are screwed. Because of this, I only wear the mascara a couple of times a week so that I don’t have to deal with this issue. But the benefits of how it looks when I do wear it definitely outweighs the stress of getting it off. The brush itself work well for me but I have to be extra careful because a lot tends to accumulate on it and sometimes it get messy when I put it on. But as long as you are not in a rush and are using a light hand you will be ok! Seriously try this out!!!

I Love this mascara!! I am a bit of a makeup addict, and normally buy more expensive brands, but I also live at the beach so I needed a mascara that could hold up against lots of water and humidity. After many trial and errors, i found this mascara, and it is perfect for what I want! It stays Black, which is important because many mascaras have a bit of a greyish worn look to them by the end of the day, which I hate, but this mascara looks just as great 12 hours later, as when it was first applied. And it doesn’t budge!! Swim all day and sweat bricks, your mascara will still look like you just put it on.. Literally.
To take it off use l’oreals eye and lip waterproof makeup remover.. It comes off easily and is easier than using regular oils, and it’s also very inexpensive..
Have actually run out and am going crazy because other mascaras just don’t hold up like this one.. ( I love this one, but the addict in me keeps buying different brands just to “see” if I can find another mascara that works as well.. ).
If its too “waterproof” for you but you like the incredible length that it gives, try applying a “normal” mascara as a base coat, then this one over top.. This just makes it a bit softer and removing it is super fast..
Max Factor false Lash Effect Waterproof definitely lives up to its name!!

This is an impressive product. It simply outperforms any other mascara I’ve ever used in terms of wide-eyed, curled lash definition and volume, and it lasts all day without flaking. It’s hard to believe that you would get this performance from a drugstore product, but you do, as long as you apply properly. As with any mascara, application is key. I curl my lashes first, but it’s up to you. Wipe the tip and sides of the wand on the top of the tube before you start, or it’ll just clog and clump. I push my eyebrow up gently and then apply to my lashes sparingly, wiggling the brush from the roots to the tips. This way you can gradually build definition instead of overloading your lashes all in one go, which would make them look spiky, spider-leggy and harsh. I love the false lash effect, and always define the lashes at the outermost corner of my eye with the tip of the wand. The only con is that it is difficult to remove, which you might expect from a product that lasts, but it’s still a bit annoying! I use a cotton wool pad soaked in sweet almond oil (which happens to be better for my skin than eye makeup remover anyway) and rub gently on the underside of my lashes, working upwards. It takes a few goes, but it works. Argan oil also does the trick – it’s just as good for my skin and doesn’t irritate my eyes. Reading other reviews I can see this product isn’t for everyone, but it’s by far and away my favourite. I always repurchase.
