So I have two favorite mascaras, this and L’Oreal Lash Paradise.
Dream Big is awesome because you are able to either make it more voluminous or thicker, all at the twist of the cap. I haven’t experienced any clumpiness from this or getting the dreaded “spider lashes” (unless you like it, then please all the power to you). You can find this at pretty much anywhere the brand is sold and I consider it the more “high end drugstore product”. Plus I love that it is simple packaging and has a unicorn! Gotta love unicorns <3

I’m somewhat on the fence with this mascara. I decided to go with natural mascara because my eyes tend to water mercilessly during times when pollen in the air is dense. I didn’t want to continue running the risk of potentially bad chemicals getting into my eye. Finding a vegan, natural formula that works is always an exercise in futility for me, since I’m not willing to spend more than $15 on a mascara.
I do like this mascara, but it’s not my favorite ever. It gives decent length and some volume, but I’m used to really dramatic lashes, which this takes some work to deliver. I go in first with the brush extended, as recommended on the packaging, and then shorten the brush and go back in. After that, I go in with one more coat with the brush extended. This does give me some good definition and length, and there’s a little volume, but nothing to ka-bam. However, the formula is inky black, which really helps to add some drama. Letting the final coat dry and applying one more does yield a somewhat dramatic effect.
There’s a lash serum in this mascara, but as I’ve not been using it for all that long, I cannot attest to the serum’s efficacy. I rarely buy into the claims of most lash serums anyway, but who knows – maybe there’s something good in this mascara. I can say that my lashes do feel much more conditioned when I remove this mascara at the end of the day, and I don’t seem to lose any lashes upon removal, which I have experienced in the past with other, more drying mascaras.
What I do love is that the look is quite natural and pretty. I could get used to that, and then go in with falsies if I need to play up the drama. When doing a simple “lip gloss and mascara” look, this mascara really does look nice, and my lashes don’t look clumpy or spider-leggy.
I paid about $14 at Target for this, which is as high as I’m really willing to pay. I sort of feel like spending a lot on mascara is wasteful, since it needs to be replaced so often.
The packaging is sooooo pretty. I’ve loved unicorns since I was a kid, so it really makes me feel nostalgic. It looks fun and a bit fantasy, but not too sweet or childish. It actually looks elegant. I do enjoy the dual-purpose wand, as I feel each setting delivers a decent result. It sort of eliminates needing to layer two mascaras, so I do appreciate that.
Over all, I do like this mascara a lot. And I will continue to purchase it, as it doesn’t bother my eyes and does the job I basically need it to.
Quick note: the image at the top here is not of the Dream Big mascara. That is of the Stellar Gaze, which is much different.

Edit #2 4/20/17: So the wand does work – gives you some length and volume (more so on the volume than length). This is supported by the thicket, creamier formula (not too wet) which does clump a little. No worries there because I always use a lash comb anyway. My issue is with the itchy lash roots it gave me. It must be the serum that makes your lashes grow because I’ve never had that problem before. Maybe that’s a sign that it’s “working” – and to be fair, it’s not upon initial application – it’s after a few hours of wear. But itchiness is not something I want to put up with (even if my eyes aren’t watering) so I’m going to stop using this mascara and changing to “will not buy again”. If your eyes aren’t sensitive, it’s a great mascara to try!
Update edit: I was so curious about this wand, I’ve been surfing around for more info or examples and apparently there are others like it. Examples include: Flower Zoom In Ultimate Mascara, ULTA Twisted Volume Mascara, and PUR Double Ego Mascara. So I hadn’t heard of this before but it’s out there.
“A mascara that lets you fake it till you make it.” This product is a little different. When you read my description of this very unique mascara wand, you’ll understand why.
This is Pacifica’s latest mascara. Its official, very long name is “Dream Big Lash Extending 7 in 1 Mascara”. It retails at Target (where I bought it) for $15.99. On the Pacifica website, it sells for $16. Its claims as advertised on the box are
-instant length
-lift & separate
-volumizing
-conditioning
-rich color
-lash serum (to help your lashes grow)
-2 in 1 brush (I’ll get to this in a sec).
The packaging is a cross between 70’s glam and little girl. It’s a white tube that tapers slightly at each end (hard to see in the pic) and has turquoise and gold lettering and logos on it. The logo is a silhouette of a unicorn against a starry rainbow and clouds. (Stay with me here!!!) It’s cute and kitschy but it somehow works (the name IS “Dream Big”) and I like it – though cutesy makeup packaging is definitely not a draw for me!
At the top of the handle portion of the tube, there is a dial with two arrows, one pointing each way, that say length and volume on them. This dial concept is not new to the mascara world. Many have some version of it – but I’ve never seen one like this before. You unscrew the cap and pull the wand out and there is a standard looking bristle tip. The bristles appear to be rubberized and all one length. There is no tapering on this tip. The bristles as packaged are in the “length” mode of the mascara but you twist the dial in the other direction towards “volume” and the wand length shrinks about half an inch. You can see that fully extended (at about an inch and a half), the bristles are farther apart and scrunched up (about an inch), they are much more densely packed. And yes, each mode does deliver what it promises to your lashes.
The actual mascara IS a deep black – not glossy but not entirely matte either. The length mode does add some length to your lashes and the volume mode does thicken them. How much? Visibly so but not in a dramatic, catwalk way. For you all who are looking for a natural-ish mascara with a little more oomph than most of them deliver, this is a good one to try. It hasn’t flaked or smudged yet on me. Well see as I use it up and it gets a little drier what happens. It doesn’t irritate my eyes or surrounding skin either. It does have a weird chemical smell that many mascaras have. It’s not overwhelming – you have to put your nose next to the wand to smell it – but it IS there…. a little off-putting in a “natural” mascara. Though, to be fair, the “natural” that Pacifica puts on their packaging only hints at 100% natural products – it doesn’t actually claim that. The package proudly proclaims it is vegan (I believe the entire line is) and formulated without carmine (which is part of the vegan category), mineral oil and parabens. As I mentioned, this is a not a completely natural mascara (see ingredients below) but it’s better than most and won’t harm your lashes – it’s *supposed to* help make them grow. If the serum DOES work and the mascara continues to perform well, I’ll raise it to 5 lippies. At this point in time, I WILL repurchase.
