I’m surprised by this mascara having such a low rating on Makeupalley! This is my HG mascara which I’ve bought many tubes of, ever since it first launched. I naturally have very sparse, thin, short, and straight Asian lashes. What I need in a mascara is something that noticeably voluminizes, lengthens, and does not smudge or flake, as I have combo-oily skin. I’ve tried many different mascaras, from drugstore to high-end, and many were disappointing because they either smudged, flaked, didn’t hold a curl, or simply didn’t create much impact.
I love this mascara as it actually makes my lashes look existent — the mascara creates a lot of volume and gives my lashes a nice boost in length. Also, it’s extremely impressive in how it holds the curl after using an eyelash curler. This mascara is also easy to remove with a regular eye makeup remover, micellar water, or even cleansing oil.
I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews and had to add my positive review. I’ve also recommended this to my sister-in-law who’s loved this mascara as well, and her lashes are very different than mine (naturally long, thick, curly). Hoping others will have similar good luck as well w/ this mascara!

This mascara has earned HG status in my books. Gives me the dark, bold, dramatic lashes that I crave and it lasts all day. Reminds me of Diorshow Extase. Maybe I lucked out but I did not experience any drying out, smudging or flaking as mentioned by others. Yes expensive but delivers as promised and I love the classy packaging. Another winner from Hourglass for me.

i have purchased this aftet reading many good reviews but honestly i dont understand whats the fuss about. It gets clumpy, and hard to put on evenly… i really dislike and i did wanted to love it cause i love lot of hourglass products!

I’m sure I paid more for the packaging of this mascara than the product’s performance. The word “extreme” is overreaching, in my opinion. On my already long, dark lashes with ok volume, this mascara was just average. It only managed to add a bit of length but no volume which is what I’m looking for in mascaras in general. It also felt uncomfortably dry and crunchy on my lashes the whole time I had it on and that’s with two light coats. The only good things I can say about it are: it does have good lash separation provided I brush my lashes with a spoolie while drying. The formula is also on the drier side and the black color is pigmented. It does add a bit of length but that’s about it in my experience. I don’t see dramatic volume whatsover. As far as flaking goes, no I didn’t experience it and it wasn’t too difficult to remove with eye makeup remover.
Overall: if it didn’t cost $29 a pop, I’d say it’s an alright mascara. As it stands, it’s an expensive product for what it delivers. Personally, I can get similar or better results with other brands (even drugstore ones) for much cheaper. Even my L’ancome Hypnose mascara was better at delivering volume than this. Not a repeat buy.

I just want to say first that I love so many products in this line, especially the powders, blushes, and bronzers. Thank goodness I got this mascara as a free mini sample tubeas part of a gift for spending $125 on other Hourglass products….because it’s pretty bad. They need to go back to the drawing board on this one.
I didn’t find the formula to be dry, my little tube actually seemed more wet than usual. I like the tapered brush, but this mascara did nothing as far as length or volume. I tried adding extra coats after the first coat dried, I tried adding extra coats while the first was still wet, I tried it with primer, but I just couldn’t get it to look good. It didn’t seem like it was doing anything at all. The formula seemed very thin and wet. In trying to build it up, the best it did was give me wimpy little spider lashes…and my lashes aren’t skimpy, just light in color, so even a half way decent mascara can work for me.
Conclusion: I have used $7 Maybelline mascaras that perform better. Don’t waste $29 on this. But do t let it turn you off on the brand – they really have some great stuff!!

Extremely dry, flakey and clumpy. I’ve tried to love it as I like the brand but it is probably the worst mascara I’ve ever tried.

The only Caution here is – do not buy it, if you have uber sensitive eyes that can’t handle a dry mascara formula.
I truly wanted to love this one, I really hoped it would become my new go-to, but sadly it was a huge let down. I have long, lifted lashes, but I always crave more volume. While this mascara did an OK job as far as separation and definition goes, it did not do anything to make my lashes look fuller. It did feel incredibly dry though, borderline itchy and I couldn’t wait to remove it. It was a nightmare to remove this one, bare in mind – I always use eye makeup oils and even they couldn’t help.
Too much ado about nothing. Love you Hourglass, but the formula needs to be improved.
I do talk about some of the bestselling volumizing mascaras in a separate review here, for those of you interested ( Hope it helps!

I’m lost on all of the positive reviews this has. Maybe the tube I got was bad or old, but it is just awful. It’s so dry, even brand new. I mean, so dry that my lashes barely pick up any product (aside from a few hard globs on a few random lashes). It also flakes like crazy.

Love this mascara. My lashes have decent length and volume but they need definition. This works wonders. The only thing is that it dries up on the lashes…like you can see flakes. It also is a one application kind of mascara…if you put too much it clumps…definite repurchase

I had high hopes for this product since everyone raves about it but it was honestly lackluster for me. My eyelashes are already pretty good but this mascara just does nothing for them. It doesn’t help with length or curl. For the price point that its at I’d say its not worth it. I did find that this is a good bottom lash mascara because of the smaller wand. It does a good job of volumising sparse bottom lashes.
