Pleasantly surprised with this mascara! It’s the cheapest and most basic on offer from Catrice, a brand that’s generally cheap and mostly basic. I bought the red tube, which does not claim to be water proof.
What makes a mascara good for one person might be the reason why another person dislikes it, so it’s always hard to go by ratings.
For me a good mascara is one that
1) thickens / lengthens /enhances while still looking natural,
2) doesn’t flake or smudge (within reason)
3) is a relatively dry formula (or a thin fast-drying wet formula!) with a traditional style bristle brush
4) doesn’t clump
5) helps hold a curl
One coat of this mascara seems to achieve those goals for me.
One coat feels light and comfortable. My lashes feel soft and I can touch them and lightly rub my eyes without smudging or flaking. I could forget I was wearing it.
Two coats, however, starts to feel heavy (for me) and a little sticky. With two coats it’s more dramatic, while still looking soft and natural, but It’s something I would keep for an evening out (or some other rare time when I want to ~feel~ like I have makeup on) especially since it’s less comfortable.
My HG mascara is still the long discontinued Essence hypnogloss which I have never found a replacement for. It had a glossy/shiney finish and looked super natural, like a very black lash tint but also thickening. RIP.

Dont bother with the waterproof one its awful!!! The normal one is like my 3rd favorite mascara tho.

Not lengthening, not volumizing, doesn’t curl lashes.

I like this mascara. It is good, but you have to know how to work with it. My eyelashes are small and straight. The only way I can make anything out of them is if I curl them first (everytime) and then put mascara on. Plus, only the waterproof mascaras seem to hold the curl on my lashes. That being said, this mascara really emphasizes my eyelashes and it stays all day.You have to be careful because if you put it on excessively, it will clump, My recommendation for this mascara to work is the following: you have to remove the excess on the wand before applying it. I do this with a paper tissue, and only then i put the mascara, and it works out great. I removed a lippie because i don’t like the wand, it makes it harder to work with the mascara and because of all the extra care you need to have with it.If I put a coat in the wrong area, it will clump. But otherwise, it makes my eyelashes look really impecable. Currently I want to try out all the mascaras from Catrice and Essence until I find my HG one, but this is pretty good for the time being

The previous negative reviews are several years old so perhaps Catrice has reformulated this particular mascara because I’ve been
happy with it. I’ve had no clumping issues. It goes on easily and looks quite natural. I do two coats, no flaking or smearing so far. It does not give you a glamourous look, so if you want something dramatic, this isn’t the one for you. Its overall look reminds me of what I used to get from Clinique’s Gentle Waterproof Mascara (still annoyed that it was discontinued!). For evenings out, I might go with something from Lancome, but for everyday wear, this is a good waterproof option.

Even though I can’t call it crappy (it’s not like it’s going to harm your eyes or anything), I definitely won’t repurchase it. It’s way too sticky for a comfortable daily use and the formula is very clumpy. It keeps the promise to give some extra volume and curl to your lashes, and it is also waterproof, but that’s it. There are no more benefits, so I would rather pay just a little bit more for way better products of not too pricey brands (Maybelline or L’Oreal, which are not the most expensive in my country, and can be found very easily). They will surely be a better investment.

My lashes are sparse, thin, have an average length and stick straight. I expect mascara to hold a curl and that’s why I prefer the waterproof versions. I got this mascara because Maybelline mascaras (which I normally use) cost around 14 EUR. It is definitely waterproof, it didn’t smudge or flake. It gave me an overall nice effect, lots of length, nice volume. It definitely uncurled my eyelashes a bit though and it was very, very clumpy and not so easy to remove.
