The main difference between this brush and Sonia’s Smudger One brush is the type of natural hair used for the bristles. The Smudger One features blue squirrel hair and the bristles of the Smudger Two are composed of Saikoho goat hair. White goat hair is intended for use with both cream and powder products, whereas the blue squirrel bristles of the other brush are only meant to be used with powders.
I like to use the Smudger Two for smudging the line of a kohl pencil along my lower lashline. Prior to buying this brush I was using a soft pencil brush but I found that the bristles of Sonia G.’s Smudger Two did a better job of moving the eyeliner, while still feeling soft on the skin. Also the shape of this brush is flatter, and so it fits under my lashes easily. Sometimes I also use the brush to apply a cream shadow, such as Bobbi Brown’s Bone cream shadow, under the brow bone. The small head of the brush and the chiseled sides allow exact placement and the density is right for blending.
I’ve washed it several times and have not seen any shedding so far. I use Parian Spirit brush cleaner for spot cleaning. For a deep clean, I use Japonesque Solid Brush Cleaner (Coconut). I dry my brushes upside down in a brush tree to prevent water from loosening the glue inside the ferrule.
Sonia G.’s handles are hefty compared to my lightweight Wayne Goss brush handles, but they are sturdy and well-made. The Pro series features thinner handles.
At the time of this review, February 3, 2019, The Smudger Two is currently $28 on Beautylish. Although this is the sort of brush you can live without, I find myself reaching for it frequently and I will probably end up buying another one.
