Charlotte Tilbury’s brushes are attractive and comfortable to hold. The handles are lacquered in “night crimson,” a dark burgundy or oxblood color and the ferrules are rose gold rather than the standard chrome color that MAC has.
Her brush collection is minimalist in number, with the philosophy that “a few key brushes” are all you need to achieve a beautiful look in a few simple steps.
I have her eye blender brush and smudge brush, and reach for them both regularly when applying powder shadows. I wasn’t as thrilled with the Powder & Sculpt brush, which I thought could have had a more luxurious feel for the price.
This particular brush, the lip brush, is great. I love it when I do a bold lip. The square tip gets into the corners of the mouth effortlessly and facilitates shaping a precise cupid’s bow. It’s also good for softening a pencil liner without making a smudgy mess of it. The brush has a substantial feel, better than some of the others I’ve had that in the past that were flimsy.
When I’m out and about, and using light shades of lipstick such as nudes or pinks, I just apply straight from the bullet rather than fiddle with a brush. But a brush is great to have whenever I do a darker or bolder lip, especially when I might be photographed and want perfectly shaped lips.
PROS:
The synthetic bristles are soft, flexible, comfortable on the mouth and easy to clean. The brush head holds its shape well (no rogue hairs).
The squared tip works better than the pointed tip I was using before on a different brush from another brand. It’s a breeze to get nice clean lines with this one.
When I use this lip brush to build up lipstick, the pigment tends to stain my lips better and therefore the color seems to last longer than when I apply straight from the tube.
It lays down color evenly, so there is no patchiness, which can sometimes occur with intensely pigmented shades.
The attractive handles of Tilbury’s brushes are carved not to roll away on a table, a nice feature which shows attention to detail.
I feel that $26 is a reasonable price for this brush.
CONS:
Not retractable – this is not designed to carry in your purse but rather to stand up in a brush holder on your vanity. But it will help you craft a very precise lip.
I’m glad I bought the Lip Brush and would certainly be willing to buy another. This brush is perfect to have at home. I hope at some point Charlotte Tilbury will make a travel version for the purse as well, perhaps one with a shorter handle and stylish cap, or a retractable one for more portability.
