Isetan was having a Japan Fair and I happen to chance upon this brand of brushes. I am a BIG fan of Hakuhodo brushes but they are a tad expensive hence, I thought of trying this brand of brushes out.
BP015 Blush Brush / Koyudo BP High Class Series
The good
– Fairly similar to Hakuhodo’s J110 but Koyudo’s hair doesn’t splay out like Hakuhodo’s after washing
– The hair is silky and soft
– Picks up the right amount of color
– Much cheaper as compared to Hakuhodo
The bad
– Same as Hakuhodo, you’re not supposed to wash it too much
BP012 Flat Top Powder Brush / Koyudo BP High Class Series
The good
– Flat top powder brush (think Sigma F80 brush) but fluffier and with a bigger circumference
– With the bigger circumference, it’s easy to cover large areas quickly
– Soft as silk and very fluffy
– Delivers a smooth and satiny finish
– Reasonable pricing SGD74 (cdjapan.com)
The bad
– The big circumference means that it doesn’t reach into the small crevices on the face (side of nose etc)
– Cannot wash too frequently.
fu-pa14 Gray Squirrel Powder Brush / Koyudo fu-pa Series Black
The good
– Very very soft and silky
– Densely packed, similar to a kabuki brush
– Picks up a good amount of powder despite its softness and silkiness
– Costs SGD133
The bad
– Sheds a little
Fu pa 02 Foundation Brush
The good
– This is the one i love most from Koyudo.
– Soft silky but still firm
– Even distribution of liquid foundation
– Easy to use (both stippling and strokes)
– Much better than Hakuhodo’s G5556 and G5557 in terms of softness
– SGD56.00 (from cdjapan) much cheaper than Hakuhodo
The bad
– Sheds a little
– a bit too big in size hence application to the sides of the nose is a bit difficult.
– Have to wait for about 2 to 4 weeks before it will be shipped as they do not keep stock for this.
Fu pa 11 Precise Flat Angled Brush
The good
– the size is just nice for eyes and sides of nose
– duo fibres but very soft
The bad
– because it is too soft, there is no firmness hence, application is difficult
Bp014 Foundation brush
The good:
– size of this brush is just good for eyes and sides of nose
– the shape of this brush is similar to the fu pa 02 but much much smaller
The bad:
– nothing!!
Bp023 highlighter brush
The good
– Very soft
– Picks up the right amount of color
– can probably be used to contour and highlight the nose only
The bad:
– I’m not too sure what this brush is for, it’s too small for contouring or highlighting
Final thoughts: I think some of Koyudo’s brushes can rival that of Hakudo’s and its cheaper! For the price of the higher end ones from Koyudo can only get you the basic range from Hakuhodo hence, one can consider buying Koyudo’s as a substitute.
