Game-changer. Absolute game-changer for me.
I bought the J142 under advisement (YouTube tells me to buy things; I keep doing what I’m told and it doesn’t always end well), and this brush is simply beyond comparison; it’s perfect for getting into the crease of my somewhat-hooded eyes, and it blends like a dream.
If MAC is the Rafinelli zinfandel of the makeup brush world, then Hakuhodo is perhaps the 2000 Chateau Margaux.
Buy this brush. You need it. And it’s not sell-a-kidney expensive, either.

I’m totally converted from Mac brushes to Hakuhodo. The quality just doesn’t even compare, and for the J series at least, the prices are just as good if not better than Mac’s. If you’re going to spend the money on Mac brushes, get the Hakuhodos instead, trust me!
This brush is a great crease brush – I use it mainly for applying crease color or blending colors through the crease. It has a great taper for getting into the crease but it’s not SUPER precise, not like a J146 or something. It does a really nice job of placing and blending color, so it’s a good all-around crease brush. It has some nice resistance to it, so it blends really well. My blue squirrel brushes do an amazing job of applying color diffusely, but once color is applied they don’t blend it out super well. This one does both and I looooove it! I want a second!

Perfect crease brush for medium-light crease shades.
Shading the crease is a two-step process for me; First i apply a medium shade and then i go over the crease with a smaller dome brush (NARS 12) using a darker color, if i want more drama. I was searching for the perfect brush for step 1 and finally found it!
It’s extremely soft on the delicate eye area. I go over the same spot many times and my eyes aren’t irritated. I haven’t washed this brush but so far, it hasn’t shed a single hair.
I load the tip of the brush with eyeshadow and trace the crease with windshield wiper motions. Make sure to leave side bristles clean, they do the blending. I wouldn’t use dark colors with this brush cause it would spread the dark shade too far from crease, creating a raccoon eye.
I also like how reasonable its price is.
It was a good purchase! Definitely filled an empty spot in my collection.

Love this brush so much for applying and blending out my crease and outer V color. It is extremely soft and the size is just right for my crease. I’m not a huge fan of large crease brushes so this brush is perfect. Not too big and not too small. The J142 was actually my first Hakuhodo purchase. I’ve heard so many good things about this brand and had to give it a try. I’m definitely sold on this brand and had purchased another brush (G5515 tiny, pointed eyeshadow brush) and is looking forward to purchasing a few more.The quality is top notch and shipping is extremely fast. I ordered the brush on a Thursday and it was shipped out that same day and arrived in NYC on Saturday. From Cali to NYC in 2 days, is super fast. Gotta love that.
Also, Hakuhodo are now numbering their brushes, particularly, the J and B series. I received one of their newly numbered brushes and it makes it a whole lot easier to identify which brush you’re using, especially, if you want to buy several or need a replacement in the future. The other series will be completed at another date.

The Hakuhodo J142 is a great brush for placing a dark matte crease color to diffuse later colors in an eye look. It’s a tapered brush made of uncut white goat hair and costs $18. The goat hair keeps its shape, and I recommend drying the brush upside down to keep that tapered tip. People with little lid space may find the brush a little big. If you’re looking for a smaller brush with the same shape, I recommend the J146. The brush is also soft, of course. I uploaded two images for reference. Sorry, the brush was used, but I can assure you it is white. Hope this helps!

I’ve been looking for a replacement for my MAC 226, this didn’t make the cut. I find that it’s too long and flimsy to work like my 226. However, this is a great brush, it’s well constructed, and very soft. I find the softness didn’t work to pick up the right amount of color, and I tended to get fall out instead of the color being placed in my crease. I’m still experimenting different ways to use this brush. So far, it’s been working well for applying a small amount of color right above my crease but below the highlight, and also for lightly blending out the edges of eyeshadow. If you have the 226, I don’t think this is necessary to own, unless you really need something softer.
