The Sonia G. brushes have a luxurious look and feel. They are bound by hand in Japan. A few months ago I reviewed the Crease One, which is a beautiful and functional eye brush. Of all the Sonia G. eye brushes I’ve tried so far, Crease One is my favorite, but I am also enjoying Crease Two.
The Crease Two brush is made of white Saikoho goat hair as opposed to the blue squirrel bristles of Crease One. In general blue squirrel is softer and goat is firmer. When you are using these tools to apply shadow, there are times when a firmer bristle works better for blending, and if you are going to buy goat hair, Saikoho is regarded as the silkiest, softest variety on the market.
Crease Two is less densely packed than Crease One. Although it tapers to a peak (most evident when it is freshly washed), the shape of the head is less pointed than Crease One, and much less pointy than Pencil One. Crease Two is fluffier and thus more versatile than Crease One, which is really exclusively for the crease. For example, Crease Two can be used for a wash of color across the entire lid, as you might use the Worker One. I find it slightly easier to diffuse dark shadows with Crease Two, but for concentrating a dark chocolate brown shadow in my crease and precisely targeting the outer corner of my eye or my lower lashline, I prefer Crease One (or her pencil brushes). I feel that both Crease One and Crease Two are worth having and together they allow you to create a variety of eye looks.
The handle of Crease Two is a bit weighty, made of maple, similar in width and length to Crease One’s handle. Some people like a bit of heft and others don’t. This is a matter of personal taste. I don’t mind a heavier handle but if you do, Sonia G.’s Pro line offers thinner handles that will feel lightweight by comparison. At the time of this review, February 7, 2019, the cost of the brush is $34 on Beautylish.com. These brushes are not cheap but the quality is excellent.
