I love this dynamic duo and take it with me on every overnight, every road trip, every plane ride to other countries. It’s the perfect travel eyeshadow brush because you get two brush heads attached to a single handle. Sometimes you find dual-ended brushes included in eye palettes, but this one feels more luxurious to me than most of those, partly because the brush heads are standard size rather than a shrunken travel size. One side is a tapered blending brush, and the other side is denser and shorter for more controlled placement of color and you can use the rounded edge for smudging. With this brush it’s easy to do a quick natural eye or smoky eye. I love turning it around rather than hunting for another brush. It saves me precious seconds when I’m in a hurry.
The bristles of #30 are natural hair rather than synthetic. Some people prefer synthetic, such as the one Urban Decay includes in the Naked palette. Synthetic brushes are nice because they are vegan, anti-bacterial, and usually soft. But if you are open to using goat hair or pony hair brushes, Stila has some good ones and I feel that their prices are reasonable compared to other brands such as MAC and Bobbi Brown. The bristles are soft enough yet firm enough, too. Some of the other reviewers complained of their Costco version. My Stila #30 bristles are quite soft and not scratchy at all. Perhaps the version I bought at Sephora was of superior quality or it’s possible that some people have allergies to natural hair and I do not. I have been using Cinema Secrets brush cleaner for years to clean all my brushes and Stila #30 has held up well for several years now with regular use. Cleaning brushes properly keeps the bristles in good condition.
I haven’t noticed shedding from this particular brush whereas MAC #224 (another natural hair eyeshadow brush) likes to leave the odd stray black hair on my cheek or nose from time to time. (As a side note, I prefer MAC 217 and 239 shadow brushes to MAC 224 because those are white goat hair. If one of them sheds and I fail to notice it and pluck it off, a white hair is less noticeable on my skin.)
I bought my Stila #30 Double Ended Shadow Brush at Sephora at least five years ago when they used to carry all the Stila brushes. Now it seems you have to go to stilacosmetics.com or beauty.com to get it. I don’t think $32 is too high considering that you are really getting two brushes in one. The handle is a comfortable weight, and you can complete most eye designs beautifully with just this tool. The only downside to a double-ended brush is that you can’t store it upright in jars as you can with single-sided brushes, but this one is absolutely ideal for a brush roll or the compact makeup kit in my suitcase.

I’ve had this brush for a few years now and not a day goes by that I don’t use it to apply my shadow around my eyes. I’ve bought other smudge brushes but this is the one I turn to the most.

Great brush – I bought it for the pointy end to blend eye shadow – I work it in a quick circular motion to remove that obvious shadow line and it works miracles in seconds. I didn’t use the other end for a long time (kept the plastic tip on so I could stand it up) but recently needed a concealer brush and tested it out for that purpose. It surprised me what a fabulous job it did there but not sure if that is it’s main purpose. Very soft and luxurious nonetheless. Only downside is that I can’t stand it up.

like some people i picked this up at costco and im completly dissapointed it was soo itchy and scratchy i was hoping the pointed side would be like my 226 but it completely fails

This brush is so itchy and scratchy I don’t want it anywhere near my eyelids at all it like applying shadow with sandpaper! The tapered side is also too pointy and stiff to do anything in my crease, maybe it might work for someone with a more defined or deeper crease .

I’ve never had a Stila brush, nor have I ever purchased makeup from Costco, but there’s a first for everything…
A FANTASTIC must-have brush for any detail-oriented makeup junkie. I’ve been lemming the MAC 226, but it’s been a pain tracking one down that I trust being authentic, so I caved when I saw this being sold w/ that set for $20 @ Costco… SERIOUSLY, this brush is now up there with my ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVES: MAC’s 224, 217, 219 – and now… Stila’s #30.
This came w/ an eyeshadow trio, gel liner, mascara, foundation faker/primer, and the brush. To be honest, I really JUST wanted the brush, so the $20 I paid alone was worth it. Not only do I get a decent dupe for the MAC 226, the other end is like a thicker MAC 239 that packs on color just as well, and can be turned to the side for blending.
Love that the double-ended brush just upped the bang for my buck, HATE that it’s double-ended because I like to be able to stand my brushes up. Oh well, I still love both brush heads equally the same, regardless of that tiny flaw.
I snagged one of the last 4 @ Costco, so what the heck are you waiting for??~! Go get it! Now!!!

Like the reviewer below me, I got this brush in a set at Costco. If your Costco has the Stila set with the eyeshadow trio, this brush, mascara, and a smudgepot them run out and buy it! The whole set is 20$ and this brush alone retails for 32$. This brush is fantastic for crease work. The longer end fits nicely into the crease of the eye and deposits shadow beautifully. This is great for people like me who have a heavy lid and need to create a crease. The brush itself is soft and well made. The handle is long and easy to use. If you have good brushes then your makeup will look 100 times better. I used to use cheap ass makeup brushes back in the 90s and I have more to be embarrased of than my New kids on the block t shirts and spandex under ripped jean shorts. My makeup looked even worse than my bad fashion. When you can get your hands on good brushes, they will pay for themselves in the long run.

I got this in a Stila kit that a subscriber on youtube sent me cause I dont have a Costco in my area. It came with the brush a shadow palette with 3 shadows a black smudge pot waterproof mascara and a sample of some new foundation that they have out and all that was $20 bucks yeah INSANE! I want to get another one just for this brush as I see that it retails for $32! I would NOT pay what they ask for everything that I got in the kit cause now I am spoiled by the price LOL doesnt that suck!
On to the actual brush. It is AMAZING and just what I was looking for all along. There is one side that is a shadow brush it is dense as hell and fluffy yet stubby enough that it isnt floppy all over. I read someone say that it would be great for wet shadows and I have to agree! It picks up shadow dry like NO other brush that I own which is great when using any Stila or UD shadows cause they are so shimmery and sparkly and you dont get the fall out that you would with a normal flat shader brush. Yes I do love this end of the brush so much but moving on to the other end 🙂
The other end of the brush is a baby and or lovely mix of a MAC 226 and 222. One of my subscribers compared it to the 222 and I can see why they would cause it is skinny but where it differs fromt he 222 is that it has a GREAT point which is more like the 226. If you are unsure of what I am talking about google image the 222 and 226 and you will understand what I am saying. It fits into the crease of my eye PERFECTLY! Like no other brush that I own. The point picks up the perfect amount of shadows to work in the crease or outer V with. I cant say enough about this end of the brush. You will just need to try it for yourself, go into Sephora and pop it into your crease right quick and you will get what I am saying. MACs 226 is a limited edition brush and it is VERY HARD to get your hands on and is more expensive then this one and you get 2 brushes so thats a win in my eyes.
If you can get the set from Costco and I think it is a GREAT value for the money spent!
The kit has there top shadows in it including Kitten and I have wanted that one forever! It is the BEST summer shadow out there!

HG HG HG! This is my absolute all time favourite eye shadow brush. it is so soft, easy to blend. it picks up powder really well.and is the perfect size for my asian eyes. better than mac.
if i would say that i had to buy 1 brush…I would pick this one over all my other brushes… a little pricey but if you could afford it, I say go for it! It’s double ended so it’s like getting 2 brushes in one.

Very nice brush. Pricey, but good “value”. The small, shorter end is soft and dense, great for applying e/s wet. If you use a flat skinny brush, the bristles will split when it’s wet and the e/s will go on streaky. The other end is a smaller, skinner version of #9 blending brush. It’s good for applying crease color in windshield-wiper motion, or to blend color from outer corner inwards. Because of my Asian eyes, I need the precision that this brush offers when applying crease color. I also like to use this longer brush end to contour my nose. It puts on a nice skinny contour line that you can blend out with the same brush. If you put on a wider contour line, your face will look dirty.
