I am a newbie to self-tanning products. I wanted to start with something more forgiving and easy to work with, so I chose a gradual tanner. I read reviews on popular, inexpensive D/S self-tanning products – Jergen’s Natural Glow, L’Oreal Sublime, Almay Healthy Glow and Neutrogena Build a Tan. I did not like some of the reviews that stated the other products left a glittery, shimmery glow, or would rub off on clothing, shoes, or turned orange if used too much. This product seemed the best for a basic tanner than builds over days and doesn’t rub off, color material, but only skin. For reference, I am pale with no sun on legs, abdomen or back for years, but I have freckles and slight coloring on my arms and chest.
I used it for 3 days in a row. First application after a shower when my skin was completely dry, I saw an immediate bronzing effect that developed over the course of a few hours. One application is great for someone who only wants a tint, hint of color to cover blinding white legs (like I had). Color was even, golden, not remotely orange, and I was able to buff out areas such as the top of my foot so that there was not a hard line of color then white again where the bottom of my feet begin. I put less product in this area and used a cotton pad to gently buff it in circular motions. Second application the next day looked even deeper, natural and glowing, but not artificially so. 3rd day I could see areas on my hands and between toes where the lotion pooled and left darker marks than the surrounding treated skin. I waited to see how long the color would last and 80% was gone in about 4 days. I then reapplied for 2 consecutive days and waited two days off, then 2 consecutive days again. This is what works for me.
EDIT: Came back to add that this formula has silicones, so like any other ‘coney body product that I’ve used, it feels great for a day, but over the course of a week, it makes my skin dry and ashy. I have been using a good body cream on days I don’t use this to compensate.

It’s ok. I’ve used Loreal Sublime Glow, Jergens Glow and this product has many advantages over the other two. But TDLR; the color payoff sucks, so you don’t actually end up saving any money.
PROS
Price is good for the amount of you get total ($6.50 at Target vs $10 for Loreal glow)
Formula is on the thin side and spreads easily (Better than Jergens, which is way too thick)
No sparkle or shimmer (unlike Loreal Sublime Glow)
Great packaging: A snaptight lid and the bottle sits upright instead of an inverted tube, so no messy spillage.
Scent is ok/ borderline pleasant and the least offensive of the three: Jergens smells like pine sol, Loreal smells like bitter walnuts.
CONS:
The only downside is, despite being for medium to dark skin tones, it does not work as intensely as the Loreal Glow comparable product (which has shimmer, a messy tube that has to sit dispenser-side down, and you get less for your money). Or even the Jergens, which stinks and is overly thick but gives more color. So I have to use more (2 to 3consecutive days) to get the same color as I do with one application of Loreal Glow.

The previous version seems to be “Nivea Sun Kissed firming moisturizer light to medium skin (body)”. You can check MUA reviews on that one (like I did).
There are 2 variations, and I tried both: light/fair, and medium/dark. I started off experimenting with the lighter one. In the 80s, we had Quick Tan (QT), and it was an orange streaky mess. Neither of these turn you orange, neither show up streaky if you are consistent with application (which is pretty easy when you rub it in well). I am glad I tried this product, I believe this is a total winner, and MUA reviewers helped me in my choice (I did not see the previous version in stores, so I picked up this one). Thanks ladies for writing reviews!
The smell is not great, it’s a little sickly sweet to me (I like earthy smells like sandalwood), but it’s the price I pay for the nice sun-free touch of color. After a few days, I saw a nice light tan, and after a couple of weeks, I got used to the smell. You won’t look dark as if you went to Hawaii, but as if you spent some time in the sun over the weekend. I use it every night after my bath. It’s lotion and color! You don’t have to wait for summer. Oh, and how much better your nail polish looks! The tan is very natural, flattering, and does not raise questions like “where have you been?”.
The packaging is worth mentioning: it’s about time someone fixed the annoying problem of goopy gunky bottle tops. There is a big, wide top you flip up, and there is a flat hole where the lotion comes out of the bottle. This way, you can just swipe the hole with your hand to keep it tidy.
It’s a little over $10 at Ulta, so I use the $3.50 coupon to get a good price, and add to my reward points. Worth it! But you can get it online and in stores for a good price, too. Love your contributions, ladies! We’re here to help each other, and I hope this review helps you in your choices.
