A step up in both price and quality from your typical TBS body butters/creams, but is it worth the extra? For me it’s a ‘no’. TBS have recently introduced a number of product lines that seem to be catering to the ‘mid-premium’ market. I love the frangipani scent of the candle in this line so decided to splurge on the Kukui cream. It smells just as delicious and has a pretty solid waxy consistency which surprisingly melts into your skin when you apply it, it doesn’t linger or leave a film of grease on my skin. My lower legs which are my driest body area literally drank this up. But it is pricey and I’m not convinced it does more than say my Aveeno or Hope’s Relief moisturizers which cost much less. This one contains Shea butter and Cocoa seed butter along with a couple of oils, some glycerine and a bunch of chemicals. It’s a pretty short and disappointing list. There’s nothing ‘advanced’ about this formulation to justify the high price tag in my opinion. Nice enough for a treat but not a repurchase.

I was given several samples of this rich and indulgent body cream with a recent purchase from The Body Shop. I love a lot of their body care products, from the Shea and Coconut Oil Body Butters to the Japanese Camellia Cream and some of their multi-purpose oils. I can’t wait to get back to the store to purchase a full size of this lovely stuff. Every winter, I like to stock up on soothing and very moisturizing body products to get me though the harsh Canadian winter, with cold temps and drying indoor heat. The Hawaiian Kukui Cream is so hydrating and it has the most beautiful, soft and soothing scent. It’s an absolute winner!
And….4 days later and I was back there yesterday to pick up the full size of this. As it’s my birthday month, I got $10 off, which was a nice saving. The young woman who’d given me the samples earlier was working and I teased her about how it’s “all HER fault” but that getting a sample of a good product often results in a sale (Sephora knows this!). I slathered this on last night, after my shower and as I got into bed, my husband commented “what is that nice smell”. It smells very similar to the Japanese Camellia Cream but is a bit thicker and richer.

This body butter is just a little bit of indulgence. It is very rich, which is precisely what I need in the cold climate I live in, especially during winter. The scent is absolutely heavenly. It spreads nicely and honestly, will probably last me a long time since I don’t need to use a whole lot, even if I use it all over the body after every single shower. I like the sturdy packaging a lot. It’s a staple on my night stand and often holds down some papers or a stack of books or whatever.
There are body butters and just general creams out there that carry out the same function much cheaper than this one, This is what I mean by the indulgence. The scent is so comforting and luxurious, it calms me after a shower, so to perfume myself with this cream and then slip under the covers for a good night’s sleep is precisely what the winter is all about.

I need more lippies to give, 5 ain’t enough.
I have to say I’m very impressed with this whole Spa of the World line. So far, i think this particular cream is my favorite. It’s the richest body moisturizer i’ve come across.
It looks and feels just like butter at room temperature. Same color and consistency. This can intimidate some people as you would think it’s super greasy BUT that’s not the case. When you apply it, it doesn’t feel greasy AT ALL. But it feels super-super thick somehow; a heavy duty moisturizer. Despite its thickness, it’s fairly easy to spread around the skin.
It’s quite expensive for a body butter but the amount of product that you get justifies the extra money spent. It comes in a huge jar that holds 350 ml of product. Considering how little you need to use per application, one jar should last you a while.
The jar itself looks pretty chic also; they definitely look like some high-end body care product. It’s dark brown semi-transparent plastic jar with bigger, darker brown twist-off cap. It’s easy to use and lightweight, closes securely. There’s another cup inside the jar; it’s beige plastic and this cup is where the cream is.
I’d like to write a comparison between this one and japanese camellia cream (which i recently ran out of). Camellia one is definitely lighter and mousse-like and leaves skin with a powdery finish. This one is buttery and leaves skin supple but not sticky at all. Both creams sink into the skin pretty fast. If you’re planning to wear a silk dress over your skin, camellia would be better. If you want to pamper your skin on a spa day, this would be more beneficial.
EDIT: Forgot to talk about its smell. Just like other products from the same line, this also has a unique perfume that makes you feel like you’re relaxing at a luxury spa room. It’s not overpowering and doesn’t linger long enough to cause headaches.
Overall i give this product two thumbs up! <3
