Highly effective and well- priced protective face cream, great for winter weather or to treat skin irritations.
I’ve also used a similar product from La Roche Posay called Cicaplast, which I like to use after facial epilation or exfoliation.
I’ve found Cicalfate has a more emollient and moisturising texture than Cicaplast, so I’ve been using it as a night cream over serum in the last few weeks. I wake up to smooth, moist and glowing skin.
These creams contain copper and zinc oxide which can leave a white cast, so they’re not always ideal for daywear unless you’ve got time to let it sink in. I went out in wet, cold and windy weather today with Cicalfate, Olay Complete SPF15 and some Mac Studio Fix powder on top. My skin looked good but also was well protected from the elements.
Highly recommended if your skin needs some extra care during winter.

I have a rash on my arms (heat rash). I bought this product at Cascavelle in Mauritius. It was recommended by the pharmacist as I have very sensitive skin.
Imagine having a horrible rash on your arms just before the holidays kick in?? This product burned my skin! It looks like a chemical burn and this after I only applied it lightly for 2 days. Meaning it would’ve been worse if I hadn’t discontinued it. Been in so much pain. Burning, itching, swollen arms. Stop telling people this product is meant for sensitive skin, cause it clearly isn’t.

This product is really good for if I’m experiencing any redness or irritation. I always have this in my skincare collection as it is the first product I reach for if my skin is ever compromised as it is gentle and soothes the areas that still need moisture. I highly recommend for those who experience any irritation or sensitivity,

This product is the ONLY thing my skin could tolerate when I had dermatitis. It felt so soothing on my scaly, dry and itchy patches. I also found it took my skin half the time it usually does to recover when I would use this cream, it is SO worth it. However, I wouldn’t recommend this cream as a moisturizer, mainly because it contains quite a bit of zinc so it can actually feel a little drying. I use this cream solely for – eczema, dermatitis flare ups and red/inflamed acne. It does a tremendous job clearing up my skin and reducing redness. Also I haven’t had any breakouts using this, and I feel like it actually helped clear up my cystic acne.
PROS
– Great for dermatitis
– Helps reduce redness
– Can help with acne – especially cystic breakouts
– Soothing
CONS
– VERY thick and leaves a white cast (again there’s a lot of zinc in this bad boy)
– Pretty expensive for such a small tube
– Not very moisturizing
– Packaging sucks

I have extremely sensitive skin with eczema/ dermatitis. My skin goes between extremely oily to extremely dry. This cream is great, it does exactly what it says, it soothes, heals and keeps my face hyrated without making it oily or clogging my pores which a lot of mositurisers tend to do.

It clogged my pores!
Thank u, next!

I got this out of whim when it was on sale. After finishing the tube …
PROS
– packaging is clean and simple
– a little goes a long way (thick consistency)
– softens and calms skin ( winter months are harsh)
– reasonable price
CONS
– it increased my breakouts 🙁

This product is a life saver for me but can easily be misused. The heavy zinc content makes this a dream for reducing acne inflammation. I have never had the luxury of a simple whitehead, I have mast cell abnormalities that mean my body’s inflammatory response is a joke; they’re always cysts, pustules and nodules. They can’t be popped because my skin doesn’t heal well from wounds and scars easily, but this stuff often releases the sebum and seriously takes the feel-your-pulse-in-the-spot inflammation out of the lesion, as well as reducing redness. If I feel a spot coming on, this stuff brings it to a head and heals it so much quicker than if it’s left alone. I only use it if I’m staying home as I like to apply a thick circle of it over the lesion. It’s not the sort of treatment that can be worn under makeup.
Bear in mind that this stuff is seriously pore-clogging cause it’s so heavy and thick. I only apply this directly on the spot and then remove excess from the surrounding area with a Q-tip. It’s also fantastic for burns, cuts, scrapes. Basically it’s nappy cream without the irritating essential oils and fragrances. Treat it as such if you’re acne prone! There’s a trade-off if you’re using this for something like eczema and dry skin conditions; it’ll aid with the inflammation and help ward off any bacteria, but zinc is very drying. This isn’t a moisturiser by any means.

This was a life saver recently, along with few other Avene products, for my skin that suddenly went insane with bouts of perioral dermatitis, neurodermatitis and allergies. I bought a big tube now and i’m never gonna be without this product

I had terrible allergy reactio to sunburn and this product really saved me. I applied it 3 times a day to affected skin and after 2 days I really saw the big difference – swelling was gone, skin was almost in normal color and most importantly, I had no hyperpigmentation as a result, which I was afraid of because of my previous experience. I also used this cream when I burned my hand with a curler to immediately help my skin and also I tried it on my boyfriend for his injured skin – no scar left after using it. I can really really recommend this product.

I had eczema on my philtrum (area between upper lip and nose) and nothing worked till I applied this cream. It cleared up within a week and had little rebound. It might seem expensive for a small tube but it lasted me till it expired.

Around my eyebrows and around my mouth is incredibly dry and flaky. Nothing moisturizes enough there. This healed the flakiness so quickly! My only issue is that it caused me to breakout. I love avene because it’s amazing for redness and sensitivity but it’s horrible if you have acne (which I do). I won’t buy this again purely because it does clog pores like crazy.

This cream makes using prescription Retin-A possible for me. I love the results Retin-A gives me but the peeling and flaking are really annoying. If I use the Cicalfate every third or fourth day over a ceramide based serum and I tolerate the Retin-A on the other days with just a light moisturizer on top after leaving it on alone for an hour or two. This is what works best for me and gets me amazing results. The Cicalfate is a healing, unfragranced, occlusive cream that really works. I will not be without it as long as I use skin care actives.

This has been a holy grail to me
I used it at a time when my face was having really strange moods . From dry with patches ,flaky to full of bumps and pimples. This helped me out with the scarring and as well with the dryness after using specific acne products. This is that one product that I always repurchase . Even though my skin is clear now , I use it from to time to time at night instead of my moisturizer.

I have dry skin and I live in the cold Canadian weather. This cream is thick and moisturizing. I put it on at night only (too thick for daytime use). It is creamy, it spreads well, and it is unscented. I got it on sale for 12CAD$ for 40ml tube at the Shopper’s. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a thick face cream that is not too oily (vs Nivea).

I absolutely adore this product. I use it as a night cream and every morning without fail I wake up with the softest and smoothest face. I can feel this product has really penetrated and hydrated my skin from the inside which is quite rare. Usually with other creams they just feel like an extra coating on my skin but with this product it is not the case.
The only reason why I didn’t rate this the full 5 stars is because it leaves my skin looking very pale (kind of like how putting on lots of sunscreen on your face would look) and it looks quite greasy even if I just put a little bit on so I wouldn’t put it on if I’m going out. However, I would much rather sacrifice looks if it meant I would have soft and hydrated skin.

I adore this cream. I have really dry, sensitive skin and this just seals everything in. It’s a bit difficult to work with but once it’s rubbed in I find it absorbs well.
I don’t find that it sits well under makeup so I only use at night but if you had the patience to let it fully absorb first I think it would be fine.
The packaging is fine but after a while my tube got little splits in a few places. It didn’t make it unusable, it was just a little messy. Will repurchase again and again.

I always have Cicalfate on hand. It’s not an everyday product, nor is it a moisturizer, but for its limited functionality it’s a miracle worker. Cicalfate is a healing cream – – it creates an antibacterial barrier for everything from popped blemishes, to weeping eczema wounds, to light burns. It’s excellent as a barrier cream if you’ve overexfoliated and found yourself with massive irritation. It calms razor burn and sunburn. I wouldn’t use this all over my face and expect hydration and moisture, but layered over hydrating products, it can be a very good protectant against strong winds, so if you’re going skiing or hiking, this is a great product to take with you. The packaging is a simple metal tube. The cap can be a bit fussy especially if your hands are greasy, but it never leaks due to the thick consistency and the strength of the metal. Given what I use it for, a tube of Cicalfate lasts me a very long time, so the value is quite good. I have repurchased and would again.

After reading such excellent reviews, I was disappointed by this product. I read that people enjoyed using this as a facial moisturiser on dry skin patches. Unfortunately, it did not work well on dry patches of my skin (it only made them drier) but did work on weeping eczema wounds. A few other reviews had noted a similar issue, and this might have something to do with irritant ingredients and eczema.
It has a very thick, white consistency that can be difficult to blend and is best used at night time. I think other Avene creams such as the skin recovery cream are best for overall moisturising use, and I’ll save this one for areas of weeping eczema. I think the Dermaid 1% cream and other QV flare up creams work just as well and cost slightly less.

This cream helped me so much with my dark scars from scratched out mosquito bites (yes, I’m that impatient when it comes to mosquito bites), aswell as shaving or burning scars, it took me about a week and a half of daily application to erase them completely, and I’m so happy I can wear shorts in the summer again without people looking at me like I have some chronic disease (my skin is white as a paper, so every single flaw stands out like a sore thumb.
Dries quickly when you apply a thin layer, it’s not too sticky or greasy, I have absolutely nothing to say against this product.
Would definitely repurchase and recommend to anyone.
