Over in the UK this has been on so many ‘best of’ lists for the last few years and reviewed/raved about like nothing I’ve seen before! And for good reason…you can’t readily find any AHA body lotions on the high street or in drugstores/pharmacies, well until this came along! Hence why it’s become so popular over there.
It comes in 2 variations: perfumed and unperfumed. I’ve only tried it in ‘perfumed’ and found the scent more akin to a bottle of stale 1970’s perfume…not my kind of thing btw! Having used up a full 6.7 fl oz size (200ml) plus a 1 oz ravel size which I purchased seperately, I can’t say this is any better than our very own ‘Amlactin’ – a product I’ve been using on and off for years. In fact I found Amlactin to be more hydrating and left my KP-affected areas smoother and less bumpy than this. I have KP mostly on my upper thighs and upper arms but so far nothing has reduced it more than about 50%. With Ameliorate the difference has been more like 30%, if that.
No clue as to how much of the magic ingredient aka ‘Lactic Acid’ is in here. My guess is 6% which I came to the conclusion by based on the ‘LaH6’ references all over the packaging. I did email the manufacturers to find out but was told they are not allowed to disclose the percentage of Lactic Acid in this lotion or any of their products. Say what!? I had no idea such a thing could be top secret classified information but hey you live and you learn they say!
Verdict: If you live in the US or Canada and wondering if this is worth having shipped over, plus tax and customs, my answer is: No. Amlactin is a solid 12% AHA, more effective and much more cheaper – 14.1 oz on Amazon for around $28, as opposed to Ameliorate £22.50 ($28.66 USD) for just 6.7 oz. And that’s without shipping, tax etc. If you live in the UK or Europe, it’s a safe choice but if you’re looking for something even better, try Amlactin – even with shipping/tax to Europe it still works out better value and for me at least, better results!
