I bought this because of the antiperspirant properties of this face powder. I have facial hyperhidrosis; I am a copious and perpetual Sweaty Betty. It is triggered by many things, most of all by social anxiety. I had a job interview at Macy’s cosmetic counter coming up, and knew I’d end up being a sweaty mess and blow it if I didn’t do something. So I bought this and another antiperspirant product called Sweatblock. I used the Sweatblock at night twice in a row, and it helped, but didn’t fully stop the sweat.
Now enter Ben Nye neutral set…I baked my entire face with this powder after my MU application, then hosed myself down in UD setting spray. I didn’t break a sweat the entire interview, I was cool as a cucumber! My face looked a tiny bit powdery, but it was better than sweaty! If I use this like a regular face set, aka a light dusting, it looks invisible. Btw, I’m pretty sure I got the job and it really is because of the confidence of not having to sweat the sweat that this powder has bestowed upon me. Will forever purchase!

It really is translucent but it gave me an overly powdery/ unnatural look after a few hours even when I set it really well. I even used a setting spray on top of the powder so that it will sit well on my skin. TBH my makeup looks better with just the setting spray. IDK what went wrong. I really wanted to like this.

Works wonder on me. It doesnt break me out making it safe for daily use. No whitecast. I notice that my face is less oily upon using this.

I bought it because I wanted a translucent powder, as I’m very pale with a strong yellow undertone and I was sick of coloured powders which had the wrong undertone/shade and ruined my makeup. This is not translucent. It’s not completely stark white, but it is white and noticeably alters the colour of my makeup.
It’s not mattifying, either. It actually causes me to become slightly shiny all over my face after about 2 hours, which is especially strange since most of my face is not oily at all. It’s as if I never applied powder to begin with.

Most mattifying powder for my oily skin (the RCMA No Color did nothing for me), doesn’t oxidise on my face by the end of the day. Amazing price, don’t care that it contains parabens, I will keep repurchasing for as long as I live.

I bought the 1.75 oz size from Camera Ready Cosmetics.
I go through a lot of powder each year since I’m oily, and while I’m fine with using pressed powder compacts on the go, I prefer to use loose powders when I’m doing my makeup at home. I bought this powder on a whim several years ago just to try something new.
Ben Nye is a theatrical makeup company so stage performers use it to set their stage makeup to make it last through singing and dancing. It doesn’t say anything about oil control specifically, but it does say it “controls perspiration”. I suppose if you pack it on with a puff all over your face, it would have that effect. Personally, I only use a puff to set under my eyes or any concealing on blemishes. For all over the face I use a brush to pat it on so that it just mattifies without looking super flat.
Performance:
When I set my undereye concealer with a puff with this powder, my concealer lasts significantly longer than if I just apply powder under my eyes with a brush. It really does set makeup amazingly well. If I wear liquid foundation and set my face with a brush, it again helps my makeup last longer, but does nothing for my shine. I’m usually touching up 2-3 hours later or blotting – but hey that’s my face, and this powder says nothing about controlling shine. I imagine if I set my face more heavily with a larger face puff (Patrick Starrr style) I’d get more mileage, but I’m ok with that (that’s what mattifying makeup setting sprays are for…)
Texture:
This is a very fine milled, white coloured powder. It goes on translucent but if you’re heavy handed you might see the white cast. It feels very light, and you can’t really see it once it’s on your skin, so it doesn’t look powdery. If I do touch up with it, I blot my face first, then apply a thin layer over my oily spots, and voila, looks like fresh skin again, so it’s great for touching up without looking cakey.
Packaging:
All sizes have a shaker-top dispenser with a twist off cap. I usually shake some product out onto a small dish (I use the lid of a candle…) and then use a puff or brush to apply to my face. Packaging doesn’t leak during transportation, which is a plus, but it does not bode well for on the go touch ups.
I’ve had my 1.75 oz powder for about 3 years, but I’ve only been using it daily for about 1 year. I still have TONNES left, even after daily usage. I have only used maybe the first 1/6 of the bottle. You definitely get a lot of product for a very good price.

I bought an 8 oz tub of this stuff off amazon for like $15 cause i had gift credit there. It’s pretty cheap (i’ve read you can find it even cheaper in a store).
It gets 3 sticks from me because it provides a pretty good (and yes, surprisingly velvety) finish; it’s mattifying without being drying and it doesn’t look cakey or make my shallow acne scars stand out (some powders seem to). It makes my makeup last longer and less prone to being wiped off by my hair or clothes etc.
There can be a slight cast immediately after you apply, but it eventually turns slightly glowy on me. I actually liked it.
Unfortunately, this stuff clogs my pores and causes some itchiness every time i use it (maybe it’s the talc?). Even so, I still would’ve given it 4 sticks (I figure i’m just sensitive) if not for the fact that the formula of this stuff seems pretty outdated. If you’re one of those people who likes to avoid parabens, this powder isn’t for you.
Oh also, a little goes a long way so you don’t need a lot. Even if i ended up using it every day, buying an 8oz tub of it was MAJOR overkill on my part.

I bought this due to the ingredient list being similar to my favorite setting powder. It’s actually pretty hard to find talc in setting powders these days since silica products have gotten more attention. This has both talc and silica. Talc is my favorite oil absorbing ingredient. I thought I was going to love this powder.
The name is misleading as it’s not a neutral shade. It’s a stark white powder. Yes, most of the white color blends away when you buff it in. I’ve experienced worse whitecast by other products.However this does lighten my foundation by 1 shade. Ben Nye Neutral Set truly is translucent in terms of coverage. Yet I felt like I could visibly see the powder sitting on my skin.
I tried using this with less matte foundation formulas just to test it out (my go-to fndt is very matte on its own). My face looked really gross within a few hours. I could see the make up separate from my skin once my oil broke through.
I honestly don’t get the love so many reviewers have for this product. I think the tinted ones might be worth looking into if they blend more seamlessly. But… I am NC10 (very pale leaning yellow). Cameo and Fair were too pink/dark toned for me. I will admit I do like this better than the Make Up For Ever HD silica powder everyone raves about, but that isn’t saying much given the low rating I gave that product too.

I really like this powder. Supposedly it controls oil and prevents makeup from breaking down in heat and humidity. I live in Florida and can vouch for these benefits. I mix this powder with the UD Naked loose powder, which is tinted, just so I don’t get an overly chalky effect from using Ben Nye alone. The added tint is just perfect for a flawless finish. I use just a little tinted powder and a considerable amount of Neutral Set and my makeup stays fresh for hours. This powder does contain talc, which I’m normally sensitive to. However, I have no reaction to this powder whatsoever and it doesn’t sting my face like other talc based products. So frankly I don’t think it has a lot of talc in it. I order it from Amazon but it didn’t come with an ingredient list so I don’t know for sure how much talc is in it or if it has any at all. I discovered this product through a Pinterest post that claimed it contains talc but I’ve been unable to verify this. Judging from the fact that I’ve had no reaction to it at all, I would say that it contains very little if any. It gives my face a nice finish without leaving it looking too matte and flat. It doesn’t change the color of my foundation because it has no color to it at all. It’s a white powder similar in consistency to MUFE HD powder or ELF HD powder, both of which I’ve used in the past and liked, but not as much as I like Ben Nye. Apparently Neutral Set is what actors and models are wearing when they’re under stage lights and tv cameras and it’s supposed to keep makeup from melting under these harsh conditions. As far as harsh conditions go, the relentless Florida sun and climbing humidity are enough of a test for any makeup product, especially a powder. Neutral Set has held up great for me and it keeps my makeup as fresh as possible. I do use either UD All Nighter setting spray or Supergoop SPF 50 setting spray so that may have something to do with the longevity I’ve experienced. However, using Neutral Set has made a difference because I’ve found that my makeup stays fresher when I use it compared to using the UD powder or one of the others I mentioned by themselves. Adding Neutral Set to a tinted soft focus powder just ensures the finish isn’t chalky. However, when I use a setting spray, this prevents the finish from looking too powdery and it melds everything together nicely. In sum, I really like Neutral Set and find it far superior to either MUFE or ELF and better than using UD powder alone. Whatever the magical ingredients are, they definitely help my makeup stay fresh longer while controlling oil breakthrough at the same time. I recommend this powder for all skin types but especially for oily or combination skin. If it keeps my makeup fresh in Florida, it will surely work anywhere.
