A fine setting powder that smells like cotton candy or vanilla sugar (vanilla to me.) It comes in a container with a sifter lid that slides around to reveal the sifter and closes securely. I really appreciate this; loose powders don’t travel well as a rule and this one will.
It comes in 8 colors from translucent which is colorless or white, to “suede” which is deep. The most popular shade seems to be Banana (a color that probably reduces redness and those naturally dark areas on medium skin tones. However, I’m medium fair with neutral undertones (not quite a light olive though I have green eyes, which is your sign of olive skin, even if you are fair.) So I got “fair”. In my skin tone range (fair-light) I could have taken Rose (for pink skins) or Beige (for yellow golden undertone.) The Fair is just right.
This doesn’t say, but it’s a “blurring” powder because ingredients #1 and #2 are talc and mica. Both are problematic if breathed in (in quantities) poor quality contaminated talc (and mica, too) can have asbestos fibers,which do not clear the lungs and make for a potential carcinogen. One is supposed to buy in talc that is tested for asbestos using a SEM microscope and hopefully the source is clean.
As it has mica, it will be slightly shimmery. I sometimes want matte and NO shimmer so in that case, this is not the powder I’d choose: I use NikkiaJoy which has mica listed fourth or fifth (still talc is first) and smells about the same; vanillin is listed as a natural fragrance (it’s made from wood pulp) but in the trade I know of, it’s artificial. Whatever. Both the JFC and NikkiaJoy use vanillin as a fragrance rather than the traditional orris root of past years that powders contained.
Of powders I’ve tried, no caking, not as mattifying as NikkiaJoy, not clogging pores and leaving caking like IT Cosmetics. A good powder. I have not tested flashback but with so much mica, I’m willing to bet the lighter colors will give that effect under photo flash.
