This is the latest version of the former Double Wear Stay-in-Place Powder Foundation and I’m not sure if it was an improvement compared to the one of 2014 (not sure if it wasn’t even earlier but I will now use this year).
I have used all three versions, starting with the original one in the larger blue compact with 16g and without sponge, then the update of 2014 with the slightly smaller blue case with 12g and the sponge inside, and now the 2019 version with the blue case with a full golden top and a double-textured sponge.
The good news it that they kept the amount at 12g, which is more than many other brands offer nowadays in their powder foundations. Another good news is that the neutral and cool shades are less pink than the 2014 version.
The bad news is that it has less coverage and is not quite as long lasting compared to that version. The texture is powdery and if you touch it with your fingers it feels a bit grainy, possibly because it doesn’t have lots of talcum as first ingredient but Boron Nitride – and this is definitively an improvement and better for the skin.
Oils tend to come through, depending on how oily your skin is and how humid the air. It offers a sheer coverage that unify my complexion adjusting the skin colour, so 3C2 Pebble makes me look like having a bit of tan, which I appreciate at the beginning of summer, all without highlighting the skin texture like many heavy foundations, powder or liquid, tend to do on mature skin. But it won’t cover marks and spots. I also think that in order to make it work it needs to have something underneath, something it can stick to and anything that makes skin too silky and sort of dry (like bar skin or some primers) won’t serve this purpose. I use my mineral sunscreen/primer when I’m outside or a very hydrating moisturizer when I’m inside a very dry air-con office or on the plane. Also keep in mind that the colour oxidizes a bit and get slightly darker.
Here is an overview for you to decide if you want to upgrade to the new 2019 version:
– Original: 16g, creamy texture, medium to full coverage, good range of neutral shades, not very long lasting.
– 2014 update: 12g, powdery smooth texture, medium coverage, neutral and cool shades too pink, smoothing finish, oil absorbing, long lasting (read my detailed review on this).
– 2019 update: 12g, powdery and a bit grainy texture, sheer to medium coverage, great range of neutral, cool and warm shades, matte finish but average oil control and not very long lasting.
To make it short, I would say that if you have combination to oily skin and/or needs at least medium coverage, this won’t work anymore on its own, you can only use it on top of your foundation.
