I am devastated. I bought this two years ago at Nieman’s in Denver as a total splurge. Hands down the best foundation I had ever used. Glided on in a hydrating film with perfect coverage. My skin looked dewy, radiant and flawless (and believe me it isn’t)! And the true test of an amazing foundation, it just looked better and better as the day wore on. Flash forward two years and my Hubble gifted me a bottle for Valentines when he saw me scraping the bottom of my bottle. Oh. My. Gawd! What have they done to my beloved?!!!! The new bottle is at least two shades lighter and has a weird runny powdery texture. It’s HORRIBLE!!!!! It sets by itself drying down to a powdery, dull, drying finish. I’m wearing it now and my skin is looking worse by the minute getting that faintly itchy, dry, tight feeling. I ALWAYS set my foundations because I use dewy foundations and use different powders depending on the foundation and my skin that day. I wouldn’t DREAM of adding powder to this unless I wanted my skin to peel off. Why, why, WHY do cosmetic companies have to ruin perfection. Another one bites the dust……..

Oh La Prairie Skin Caviar Concealer Foundation – you are my all-time favorite foundation, and we will never part ways!! All you need is a tiny dot on your forehead, two tiny dots on each cheek, and a tiny dot on your chin, and then blend away! I usually stipple the foundation all over and then blend. This is a medium to full coverage foundation that smooths out the complexion and makes the skin look absolutely flawless, but in a very natural, non-cakey way. It never feels heavy and just feels like its treating your skin. I have combination skin that leans slightly toward the drier side, and as much as I take care of my skin, I’ve started developing lines in my forehead, have smile lines, and have crow’s feet around the eye. I haven’t experienced this foundation settling in my fine lines, breaking down throughout the day, and just like many reviewers have mentioned – it really does look better as the day goes on.
I’ve watched many YouTube reviews on this foundation and noticed that many people mentioned that the foundation is greasy and too moisturizing for young skin. I’ll have to respectfully disagree… If you put too much foundation on your face, then yes, it will be super greasy, may cling to dry areas, will settle into fine lines, will feel heavy, and will look absolutely awful. This is very concentrated foundation, and the trick to application is to apply very little (a dot at a time, like I mentioned above). Then, if you need more coverage in particular areas, apply a tiny dot in that area and blend blend blend! I don’t use any primer prior to application and just use my ReVive Moisturizing Renewal serum, cream, and eye cream. Just because this is a treatment foundation, don’t skip out on your skincare routine!!
In addition to using very little foundation, what will make all the difference is using the La Prairie Cellular Treatment Loose Powder, which is a very fine finishing/setting powder. Together, these two products make the skin look absolutely angelic and perfect. The powder is designed specifically for use with the LP Skin Caviar Foundation, so while other powders may work well with this foundation, they may not work as well as the LP Loose Powder and may not make the foundation last that long. Using both products, my foundation lasts 12+ hours. I also want to point out that with prolonged use, my skin does seem to be looking better and better without any foundation. It also doesn’t make my skin feel itchy, like many foundations and skincare products do. Great for sensitive skin!
The concealer that comes with the foundation, in my opinion, is designed more as an under-eye concealer than for concealing blemishes and imperfections. It is extremely concentrated, but works like a dream, as long as you warm up the concealer first and then apply it. If you just pick it up and apply directly, it will look very heavy and uneven and will settle into every little line. I like to swirl my finger in the concealer and warm it up on the top of my hand for a few seconds prior to application. I also dip my finger in the LP Loose Powder and gently tap it under my eyes, after I apply concealer, to “set” the concealer. If you try to “bake” your under-eyes, it may get cakey (I haven’t tried though because I’m not a fan of baking), so I don’t recommend it. The concealer is very effective at concealing dark under-eye circles and brightening up and smoothing out the area.
The only con that I have to point out with this foundation is the shade range. It is extremely limited, and chances are that with the foundation alone, you won’t find your perfect shade match. However, the silver lining is that using the LP Skin Caviar foundation with the LP Loose Powder can get you to your perfect shade. I’m normally an NC30-35 with MAC foundations, and my closest shade in LP Skin Caviar is Golden Beige. The shade is a smidge dark for me, but I apply the Transparent 0 shade in the LP Loose Powder, which is on the light end, and my skin looks perfect.
I really do believe this foundation (and the powder) is worth the steep price tag. You won’t be disappointed!!

THE BEST FOUNDATION ON THE MARKET!! I have nothing more to add to other 5 start comments it’s truly great product , I also found the solution to long wear !!! I’m nurse at a hospital working 12-16 hr and this foundation looks even better with wear not sure but I start Using
LA PRAIRIE setting POWDER and it’s magical !!! I use translucent #0.5 pretty much no color and skin looks soooo natural. Definitely worth every penny ! I have two bottles one honey beige and another is caramel so I can mix perfect color whole year around ???? foundation is good for up to 3 years in general if you don’t contaminate bottles I use single use spatulas.

Generally this foundation has great color ranges and very easy to blend, however, if you have extremely dry skin like me, this one I’d definitely not a foundation for you. I have read loads of reviews saying that the foundation is ‘the best’ for those who have dry skin. Then I thought that despite of the price, I’d give it a go. The result have really depressed me. I used La Prairie lotion, then Estee Launder night repair essence, an oily cream, and finally a hydrating primer before applying it, however It dries on my skin immediately (Yes, almost cracking). Even the Diorskin Forever foundation which retails only a quarter of La Prairie foundation works better than that! I binned it after a week. In a word, Please stay away from this as long as you have very dry skin!!!!!!!!

So I finally got around to giving this foundation a shot. It`s okay, but for the price, simply not worth it. It`s light on the skin and very airy even when built up to medium coverage, so I felt like my skin was comfortable and could breathe underneath this. It applied smoothly with an Artis brush and a beauty blender. There was a funky perfume-like smell which I wasn`t too crazy about, but which did dissipate after a short while. The lightest shade was a good match for my complexion. With a light dusting of loose powder it lasted about 5-6 hours without oxidation or separation. But for 225 bucks, I expect a heck of a lot more. For starters, why only SPF 15?! You`d think that for that whooping price tag they could at least bring the sun protection up to 25 or 30. The packaging is crap: the foundation is liquid-y enough to use a pump, so why the messy screw top?! And finally, I feel like I get a much better performance from my Japanese foundations: high end, you`ve got Suqqu, which is still almost half the price of La Prairie and does a stellar job compare to this; lower priced brands, like Koh Gen Do or Ettusais have great foundations with good skincare ingredients and much better finishes. I simply don`t think this is worth the price.

If you’re reading reviews that compare this foundation to estee’s double wear i suggest you ignore those. These two foundations are completely different finishes and aren’t meant to be compared. So if someone gives this a 2 or 3 star rating because it didn’t last as long as their double wear then they probably don’t have a very good understanding regarding differences in lasting power associated with differing foundation finishes and skin types.
My review is from the perspective of someone with combo skin (normal cheeks, oily T-zone, large pores on the nose area), not “mature” (I’m 33 with no lines at this point), and understanding this is a dewy/satin finish foundation (NOT matte or with “long wearing” claims).
I use primer underneath any foundation to extend wear because this is not a long wear foundation. If I do that, set my t-zone with powder, & blot mid-day to prevent any nose oil breakup then I’ll get a full day’s wear out of this foundation (6 hours of looking very fresh, another 2-3 hours of looking completely presentable just with some wearing off of the foundation). So in terms of longevity I think it performs well – if it didn’t I absolutely wouldn’t repurchase it given the exorbitant price.
Feels absolutely wonderful applying it to the skin – like cashmere almost. I apply with an Artis brush (to build up a medium coverage) and it’s like applying skincare. Feels light on the skin once it sets and dries to a finish I’d describe as between dewy and satin. The finish is as close to that “your skin but perfected” second skin look as I’ve ever been able to achieve with a foundation and I’ve tried all the high end ones (Chanel sublimage, la mer fluid finish foundation, etc.).
I agree I don’t love the jar/spatula packaging. Not because it’s not hygienic (I just brush foundation off the spatula and apply directly to my face and I don’t touch the spatula itself while doing this) but because it is more complicated for me to get the last bit out once I reach the bottom of the bottle – and you can bet I’m going to get every last drop for the money. It’s not deal breaker though and hopefully one day La Prairie will repackage with a pump mechanism of sorts.
Price-wise it’s outrageous. If i could only find this for full retail ($225) I wouldn’t repurchase it consistently. Luckily I can find it for over 50% off retail which for me makes it worth it to repurchase as soon as I finish a jar because I just haven’t found a foundation i love as much as this one.

Okay – I have tried a lot of foundations in my time and I am always looking for full coverage to cover age spots and freckles. This goes on quite nice but it slides off during the day and comes off easily. It feels oily on the skin and by afternoon it no longer covers well. So it is not as good staying power as Estée Lauder double wear. The packaging is really bad. It has a spatula which is odd. I think a pump would be better. There is heaps of product I guess. The concealer is too light for me and i look white when I put it on and doesn’t blend in well over the top of the foundation. Wouldn’t buy again.

Yet another ridiculously expensive foundation that I’ve tried and liked.
After weeks of lusting it, I have finally purchased it. Because there is no such thing as one too many foundations. The packaging is pretty nice. The bottom part is where the foundation is and the top part is the concealer with the magnification mirror. One immediate drawback from this product is the twist off cap with a built-in spatula. I have this thing against such thing. You expose the product to the air and the built-in spatula is increasing the risk of contamination. But the actual product itself? It is divine. This is a skincare infused foundation that actually is more suitable for mature skin and those with dry skin. But if you have combination to oily skin you can work this out with applying matifying primer prior to applying the foundation. It is hydrating and weightless. It gives you an immediate medium coverage. I am able to squeeze 7 hours out of this product which is actually something. The best way to apply this foundation is with beauty blender. You are able to sheer out the product with the beauty blender whereas with foundation brush it gives more on a medium coverage.
It is also a bonus point for the matching concealer that comes with it. I never used the concealer but I know when the time comes for me to apply it, I know I can safely apply the concealer without fearing it might look out of place.

I love this foundation…. My most favorite foundation ever.
It is very comfortable. It looks amazing on the skin. But most important for me is that this includes skincare. It is not good for oily or combination skin but it’s perferct fot normal or dry skin.

I split a bottle of this with a friend of mine because we were so curious about it. It is hydrating and is medium to full coverage, but I’m not that impressed with the longevity. I still prefer the much cheaper (which isn’t even cheap) Estee Lauder Double Wear. Maybe because I have very oily skin, it didn’t work out that well for me, it didn’t crack or anything but in 6 hrs of wear, I could see my pores were like billboards. It worked well for my friend, she loves it so I ended up giving her what’s left of my half. Idk, for we bought it for PHP11,000 which is roughly $280 I expected to look like Angelina Jolie for the whole day.
