   I have had Lycogel for about one year. I have it in three different shades: Beige, Honey and Caramel. I have medium skin tone and beige works well in the winter, but for summer, I need something a bit darker so I mix both beige and honey to match my chest and neck. At first, I really didn’t like the product because it felt heavy and cakey… I decided to recently give it another try and I was very impressed with the results. I agree with most reviewers who say the application technique for this makeup is different than other foundations in the market. You must prep the canvas well before application to get a flawless look.

   What worked for me. I make sure my face is well washed, I use a toner (it helps the skin absorb the moisturizer), and than I moisturize my face and neck. I allow few minutes for the moisturizer to fully get absorbed by the skin. I use a damp sponge to apply two pumps of the foundation to the entire face for full coverage. One pump should suffice for everyday wear, but for more coverage, two pumps will be enough; anything more than two pumps will make you look made up and perhaps cakey as with any makeup you over apply. Applying the foundation with a brush will also give you a flawless look and works very well too, It is just a matter of preference. Since the product is a bit expensive you should stick with using a brush as a sponge tends to absorb a bit of the product, but you should find out what works for you.

   Another tip I have learned over the years is to use a translucent power to set any foundation, because if you use a pigmented setting powder it can alter the color and look of your foundation. Jlo’s makeup artist (Scott Barnes) is very adamant about this technique for a flawless look–which caught me by surprise…

   I have a pure silk setting powder and it works great for setting any foundation. Honestly, you don’t even need a setting powder with this foundation, but some people don’t feel complete without it.

   Overall, I would say give this foundation a try and hopefully you will like it, and if it is just sitting in your counter, try it one more time before giving it a pass.

   FYI – this product does what it claims: lasts all day and you can swim in it.

   This foundation covers well and is kind to sensitive skin. The first few times I used it I felt like I had a death mask on. Then I wised up and used half the amount I would with other makeups, I started putting it on with a sponge and it did resemble a second skin. I was then able to work with it to cover problem areas. I recommend it as long as you take the time to learn how to use it. The coverage is very smooth. It does not sink into wrinkles like many other foundations.

   What I do care about is finding a foundation for my ultra-sensitive skin. So far, every foundation I’ve tried seemed to eventually break me out, or if not outright doing so, I’d noticed an increase in blackheads. Not so with this! I’ve tried so many “pure” foundations for my temperamental, sensitive skin, including just about every mineral foundation out there & had rotten luck… either with skin reactions and/or overall look / texture, etc.

   It also goes well with bio oil. The Lycogel Taupe covers excellently and makes my skin look good without caking and when I remove it at the end of the day, my skin looks even better! No dry patches, not too oily, no breakouts or no new blackhead. It rejuvenates the skin.

   Social aspect – People are noticing that even on a hot day my foundation stays perfect, even when it rains, the foundation does not run, when my co workers pranked me by throwing an entire bucket of water over my head I used a tissue to remove the water and NO foundation ended up on the tissue. This for me was a big deal, now I can go swimming,dancing and not have to go to the bathroom to ‘top up’ every hour. No need for walking around with a mirror, even though I still do!

   I give this product 5 stars, however it is pricey at £55, the issue for me with this is now that I am a huge fan of Lycogel, it will dent my wallet for years to come but it does last much longer then most foundations, so it could be economical as well if you like to look good and rejuvenate your skin at the same time.

   There was a learning curve as to the application of this product. I found that using a blender sponge worked best. I wear this with Lorac’s oil-free primer, so I cannot really comment on how healing this product is since it isn’t in direct contact with my skin. I can comment on coverage and “durability” (for lack of a better word): coverage is thorough but natural-looking. It covered some melasma quite well. It also held up in 101 degree humidity.

   Caveat: try samples of different colors first. The first 2 shades I tried were too fair, and it showed up much more distinctly with lycogel than with other foundations I have tried. Also, make sure that any “bargain” you find on it is not on the older, supposedly inferior spf 15 product. Discounts on the newer stuff are worth the search since this stuff is so ridiculously expensive. Lastly, this product definitely lies on the dewier end of the matte-ness scale.
