Elate is a green brand based out of Victoria, BC. Having worked in green beauty for ages, I recently decided to try the line to see if they were any good–I discovered three gems in the lot (the Brow Balm, the Mascara and the highlighter in Wonder). Everything else is sub-par. It’s hard to garner honest feedback on the line, as a) Green Beauty reporting (on Youtube, etc) tends to be a bit gushing to the point of being “culty” and b) the folks on the company marketing team assiduously delete any reviews under 4 stars.
I so wanted to love this foundation, which is the lighter-textured of the two in the line. It has the most pleasing, cooling feel upon application and has that lovely “tack” which hyaluronic acid provides. The colour range was great and inclusive. Unfortunately, a) the product was weak in the coverage department and GONE from my face in under four hours (I speak the truth) and b) the bottle had an infernal squirty, splattery mechanism that led to foundation adorning my vanity, my clothes, everything. The consistency in the bottle also became uneven, even with shaking and stirring. One day you’d get a dribble, the next you’d get a clump of putty. So again–another green beauty fail. The search continues.
