This was a bad buy for me. I picked it up at Nigel Beauty. I needed a new foundation, because my color has changed in the winter, and the idea of a “light-diffusing” foundation sounded so good. Many years ago I used to wear Estee Lauder Lucidity “Light Diffusing” Foundation and when I look at old photos my skin looks incredible. People used to compliment my makeup and my skin all the time. Granted, that was MANY years ago…my skin ain’t what it used to be…so perhaps nostalgia got the better of me. Also, this foundation is $24.00, which is at least half of what I usually pay for foundation. What could go wrong?
The first thing to go wrong is the patchy application. This is TERRIBLE over my sunscreen. I’m not going to skip sunscreen, so this is immediately relegated to an “evening” foundation. It’s okay over primer if I want to look like I ran a marathon. I rarely do makeup especially for evening, so this is just going to sit on my vanity. Luckily, the packaging is somewhat attractive. It’s not as elegant as it looks in photos, though, because the bottle is plastic, not glass.
The second thing that’s bad is that on my skin, this gets more orange by the second. I have warm undertones, and “cool” shades look gray on me. The foundation’s box tells me it does not oxidize, but the foundation itself contradicts this to the nth degree. I usually have to tone down yellow and orange with neutralizing powders, etc. but I there is simply no match for the orange that is shade No 40 (on my skin). No 30 looked too “beige” so I thought I could get away with 40 (and it swatched just fine on my jaw in indoor lighting). Nope. Maybe when my skin gets darker this will work. BUT – it really SUCKS that Gállány offers only seven (!!!!) shades. Are they crazy? I guess they assume people will buy two or more colors to customize. That’s too wasteful for me. (The more I write, the madder I am at myself for wasting money on this foundation.) Nigel doesn’t allow returns of open products so I’m stuck with this, unless I find someone who might be able to use it.
For normal-dry skin, dry skin, this has very nice ingredients, a teensy bit of UV protection, and a lovely but unexaggerated “glow”. The finish is pretty, for sure, but it’s far more moisturizing than I need or want. It claims to be “weightless”, but, on me, it’s “medium” weight. It’s not as heavy as other similar coverage foundations. If you’re looking for a lightweight, reasonably-priced foundation with moisturization, and you can find a color match in this pathetic range, this might be the love of your life. For some reason it has lavender and lilac in it (fragrance, I guess?), which I think is dumb. Lots of people love “luxuriously scented” products, though, so ignore my curmudgeon-ly-ness if you are one of those people. I tend to get cystic acne if I use fragranced products regularly, so they make me nervous. This foundation has peptides, which are wonderful for creating a smooth look and keeping makeup from reminding you about your lines and pores. It’s also got Peat Extract, which is very trendy as an anti-aging ingredient these days.
