Oh I do love MAC’s lipsticks. This is the only one I’ve tried so far actually, but it does so totally live up to the high expectations I have for MAC. I’d never bought high end lipstick before, because I always thought, after all it’s just lipstick, something that will only last for a couple of hours until I eat anyways. Well what a difference from d/s lipsticks, d/s lipsticks are dry and hard and give you dry, cracked, flaky lips. In the end it is still much more worth it to spend the $$$ and get a high end lipstick if you don’t want to end up with dry, cracked flaking lips all the time. Besides which you will never wear your cheap d/s lipsticks anyways, because having dry cracked lips feels so unpleasant. This MAC lipstick feels sooooooooo smooth and creamy and moisturizing, it is just like a lip balm and unlike some d/s lipsticks which do feel soft and smooth and moist while you are wearing them, but once you take them off you discover your lips have become totally dehydrated, this MAC lipstick will leave you with soft creamy lips even when it is completely gone, as if you were still wearing it. I love this effect so much that I will use this lipstick even when all I want is the conditioning of a lip balm rather than colour, however since this colour is so bright I will have to get another MAC lipstick to use like a lip balm with minimal colour. I love that this lipstick gives so much shine that a lip gloss is unnecessary (hate layering lip gloss over lipstick, but I just can’t live without super glossy moist-looking juicy lips), it looks like I already put on gloss over this lipstick. As for the colour, well I went to the MAC counter intending to buy one of their regular, permanent lipsticks to try one out and the LE collection this lipstick came in was there so the MA urged me to try it out and I loved it! I usually don’t like to buy LE items because I think, if I fall in love with it and I can’t get it anymore afterwards………! Love the delicious flavour too. = UPDATE = Since I like this so much I thought I’d browse through MAC’s selection and see if they have a dupe or a similar colour in their permanent collection. I think Pink Nouveau is fairly similar, but like a matte version of Vivacious, it doesn’t have the shimmer and sparkle of Vivacious. But I guess you can get a similar effect by using Pink Nouveau and putting on a sparkly, shimmery lip gloss over top.

I’m definitely calling BS on the official description of “sheer mid-tone pink with silver pearl” — this doesn’t have pearl, it has shimmery sparkle, and it’s not mid-tone, it’s bright farkin’ PINK. I wouldn’t even call it sheer. It might technically be sheer, but even one coat of this stuff applied with a heavy hand gives you a solid enough color to qualify as opaque, or at least come really damn close. But it lacks that dull matte “oh hey, look at me, I’m wearing a ton of lipstick” effect that a lot of opaques have. All technicalities aside, the tone of the color combined with the sparkle makes this lipstick very bright and noticable, regardless of what finish or formula it’s technically listed as. If you’re looking for a soft, muted pink, this is NOT it. And this is precisely why I love it so. It’s a lippie that Jem and the Holograms would have been proud to call their own.
The only complaint I have about Vivacious is that it lacks staying power. I find I have to re-apply it every half hour or so, which is rather annoying, but it’s definitely worth the effort. The wonderful thing about this lippie is that because it technically lacks strong opaque pigmentation, you can apply it lightly and make it work very well with dramatic eyeshadow without it being massive makeup overkill. You get to wear a fun lipstick with dramatic eye makeup and still avoid the “holy crap too much color EVERYWHERE!” effect. It sparkles and shines and adds the perfect amount of color without being overbearing, but it’s lightyears away from anything I’d ever call neutral or subtle. For a more dramatic effect, this goes wonderfully when combined with Pomposity (result is a high-shine sparkly berry color) or Blast O Blue (result is a semi-sheer pinkish plum that reflects purple-blue at certain angles).
In short, this is a wonderfully versatile product, and if you don’t mind having to do regular touch-ups, it’s an absolute must-have.
