Well this was a surprise hit! Nabbed this yesterday at Ulta and immediately fell in love the moment I applied this weird little balm stain to my lips. I’m calling it a lipstick rather than a lip treatment due to the fact that it’s definitely more cosmetic than skin care, but that’s just semantics.
I got the shade Pretty Woman, which looks like a blackened berry in the tube, but sheers out wonderfully on the lips. Upon first application, it reminds me in color of the Clinique Almost Lipstick, which I was obsessed with when I was in high school. But over time, it reacts with the heat of my lips and morphs into a pretty berry stain. It’s not garish or harsh, but rather a sheer stain that looks blurred and gorgeous.
The formula is hydrating, but it’s not going to replace a more substantial lip treatment. I do feel comfortable wearing it for hours at a time though, and it doesn’t feel tight or dry at all. My lips feel properly moisturized while it’s on. However, upon removal, the hydration doesn’t last, so I’ll usually follow up with another balm if I’m not going to reapply this color.
You don’t get a whole lot of it; it seems like it skews slightly smaller than most other lipsticks. However, because of the staining properties, I don’t feel the need to constantly reapply, so I’m not mad about it. I imagine it’ll last a long time. It was $20 USD at Ulta, which isn’t too bad, but may be slightly off-putting to those who are more used to drugstore prices. For a prestige brand, though, it’s really not that expensive.
Packaging is pretty, sturdy, classy, and secure. I can’t say I dig the “Live Laugh Love” on the upper component, since I find that phrase to be incredibly played out at this point, but really, I’m not looking for this lipstick to give me advice. I just want it to look pretty. And it absolutely does!
I’m definitely going to try some of the nude shades in the bunch, as well as the one that appears clear until it stains you lips pink. I’m a sucker for color-changing balms!
